Linocut carving and printing - short film by Maarit Hänninen
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this video I will show you the process of printing my linocut print "Tomorrow, Tomorrow".
Watch me transfer my original sketch to a lino block using just a pencil, prepare cotton rag paper for printing, register the design so that it aligns with the paper, sign the finished piece, and more.

Publishing videos like this really makes people appreciate what you do and the training, skill, time, and expensive tools required.
anyone else amazed not only by her obvious talent...but also that a tiny workspace, with all white surfaces is kept clean and tidy as a print workspace?!

Thank you! Now that I've moved into a bigger studio, I have to say that I'm amazed myself I managed to fit everything in that tiny space 😂
Easily one of the most satifaying video for an artist who ever tried linocut. I'm glad I've stepped onto that video, everything is well fillmed and show off the process in a such contemplative way.
I first watched this video months ago without knowing much about linocut, and today I just received my first set of carving tools in the mail. Vintage blades with a wooden handle! I can't wait to create my first print!
What's up with the 147 ppl who gave this video a thumb down? Watching how everything works and operated so nicely in such small space is very both beautiful and satisfying. Such sufficient use of space, and well kept.

@@MaaritHanninen To be honest. I think the dislike may come from different taste in music. Because your art tutorial was absolutely flawless. I sense that you high expectations on yourself, but I could be wrong.
The most relaxing thing to watch.. Such gentle precision. Love the music too. Gorgeous final result 👏
I'm looking up the musician. I'm loving that as a guitarist myself, and he sounds a lot like Chris Rea. As a paper artist, stamper, and old book collector, seeing this process was fascinating. I have a new appreciation for this art. Thank you for sharing.
It’s something else when the stamp is just as beautiful as the print.
I was surprised the news print didn't come off on the nice, white paper... Such a lot of effort and time and so many steps in the process - a true art!
By far the best video on linos, here's real craft.
Your patience is insane! Great job!

Haha, thanks 😁 I've always considered myself very impatient, and only learned patience through linocut.
Maarit, I learned so much from seeing you demonstrate the whole process over the last few years. Thank you so much.
Beautiful...Ravens and wolves are my favorite creatures.
It is great that your video really takes its time and shows so much of your process. That way you get a feeling of how much work really lies behind each print and how much care they are made with. They are so much more than "copies". I have just started trying this tecnique myself and I am really longing for all those tools and to get better understanding of all the ways of the process 🥰
this is amazing! i love seeing other artists' processes. i learned a lot from watching!
I love watching you working. It's so relaxing and inspiring. Thank you!

Thanks for making this and for showing your materials and details of the process so carefully.
Thank you so much. The print is beautiful and the video is such a help for a beginner printmaker like me. Really well done.
Thank you for sharing your process, the end result was beautiful!!!
Eh visto mucha gente hacer trabajos pero nunca alguien tan prolija y detallista. Me encanta, la verdad que voy a robar algunos tips como los de ponerle cinta para que no se mueva, me pareció muy interesante. Gracias

so incredibly beautiful. Both the process and the final print. I would love to see more like these!
Gracias por compartir tu trabajo!! Una verdadera artista!!!
Belíssima obra. Força e delicadeza ao mesmo tempo.
Excellent video and great work. A very good reference
I'm an artist and an introvert. This short video beautifully presents where and what my comfort zone is.
Learnt a lot, just from watching and your silents.
First you draw the bird, then you transfer trace the bird, then you touch up the traced bird, then you cut the bird. Wow. A labour of love and slowly dying art. Can’t imagine many young people in our smartphone obsessed society having the focus and stamina to get past sharpening a pencil 😅 Thank you for sharing the process and your beautiful work!
You are absolutely incredible 😊
I loved watching the whole process and you were very careful not to rush through the demonstration. Thank you...Beautiful image too. You are very talented and have worked hard to do what you do. I wish you much joy in your creative life.

@@MaaritHanninen Instagram has plenty of current artists that are sharing more of their process which is nice to see. My studio (shed) is a bit too hectic, once I build a new studio, I'll have an immaculately clean section, for drawing, cutting, computer work etc. Right now it's a bit more....'shabby'? If you look at the 2nd video in more VLOG series you'll se what i mean :)
Beautiful work Maarit ::) Thanks for a great video - it's got me thinking of doing more linocuts ::)
this is amazing! i do not have the patience for a project like this but i love watching super intricate designs be brought to life

The music makes me think of the movie Desperado when Antonio Banderas' character starts singing with his band in the beginning.

I did a linocut before. Omg my fingers hurt so much after. It takes a lot of skill, patience, strength, endurance, and talent. You’re really good

In 4th grade, 1965ish, my teacher had our class do this with the gouges and linoleum. I remember so well doing the stamp and then inking it and doing the transfer. Probably couldn’t do that today! Those gouges were very sharp.
This is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.

@@MaaritHanninen I like how you use the lino to frame the inking to keep the edges clean. That's a trick I should try in my work.
This is so beautiful. I wish there was no music and only the natural sounds but it was also great. I admire your hard work and patience. So beautiful!!
Stunning!!
WoW! I love it!
