LINKING FULL PROJECT FILE AS 'EXISTING' CONSTRUCTION: For demo and renovation work

This Revit Tip expands on the one I made a couple months ago named "DEMOLITION ITEMS IN A LINKED FILE". This takes the topic even further and shows how to take an old project file and use it as a LINKED existing model for renovation and demolition.
There are only a couple things you need to do to prepare the file for use.
Enjoy.

Thank you for sharing Mike. I am surprised that you did not bind the old project. Not sure if this is a best project. Would thought it would be.

Great suggestion! I don't actually HAVE a point cloud that I can use for a Revit Tip. So perhaps I'll look for one in the internet and then use it for a Tip! Thanks for the suggestion.

Thank you for your sharing. My question is, are there other uses for phase mapping? For the example you did in the video, how your method is more interesting than making a copy of the old project and doing the job as we used, instead to use two files.

Thank you for your amazing work. I do still have a situation though, Im pretty sure you can help me out. What if i did make the as-built (existing) drawing of the building, saved it as "As-Built" and then from that same drawing i saved it as "Renovation" so i can have both projects and do the work from the "As-Built". But now that im done with the renovation plans, i want to put both projects together for the presentations, show what had been demo, added and so on... CAN I DO SO, AND IF YES, HOW CAN YOU EXPLAIN PLEASE? Muchas Gracias!!!

This is good stuff. I do wonder if there are any downstream process issues. Things like using Revit keynoting for demo plans in the new. I assume as long as both files are pointing to the same keynote file you will be able to keynote the demo items in the new project. I believe it doesn't work that way, however. I believe you would need to keynote them in the old original linked file first and then you can keynote them in the new project.

I make a keynote file with a D in front of items that are demo (D1, D2, D3) and normal numbers for the new work items (1, 2, 3). Revit can only use one keynote file at a time.
