Linear Expansion of Solids, Volume Contraction of Liquids, Thermal Physics Problems
This physics video tutorial explains the concept of thermal expansion such as the linear expansion of solids such as metals and the volume contraction of liquids like water. It discusses the relationship between the coefficient of linear expansion and the coefficient of volume expansion. It also provides an equation to find the expansion of area due to a change in temperature and not just length and volume. This video contains plenty of examples, formulas / equations, and practice problems.

Great and Powerful OC Chem Tutor: Please make a video on why in the hell the scales of Celsius and Kelvin are equal when it comes to coefficient of linear expension....
Thank you for teaching,may God bless you. Watching from Papua New Guinea🇵🇬
In the "area" question you calculated the differences of lenght and width separately and multiplied the new lenght and width to get the expanded area, and in the volume question you calculated only the difference in the volume. Which way is correct? It does not give out the same answer unless you multiply the ◇V by 3 for volume (or multiply by 2 for area)
Thank you so much for creating such amazing videos in most needed topics, your effort is so greatly appreciated by us students.
How many of you just want to do the calculations but the pen is not nearby bcz you are watching it on your 🛌

When calculating change in area and change in volume we were taught to multiply the Coefficient values by 2 for area and 3 for volume....is this accurate?
@thecherrythatkakyoinverbal8931

Yes, it's gamma(volume) = 3(alpha) and in case of water, the coefficient is always 3alpha because length and breadth of water can even be the room in which it's put. Thus, it's gamma (which is equal to three times alpha)
how did you get the answer at 4:15 ?
thank youu

@skeletonskelly5075

Volume Expansion is Cubical Expansitivity x Original Volume x Change in temperature. To find cubical expansitivity, you multiply 3 by linear expansitivity, which is explained in this video.
In the first question isn't the change in temperature +75 because they said it was increased by 75 hence final temperature would be 95
