Dark Entries is proud to present the debut album of contemporary British band Linea Aspera. Linea Aspera is the London duo of Ryan Ambridge (Synths/Programming) and Alison Lewis (Vocals/Synths). They began the project in November 2011, technically drawing inspiration from electronic music from the early 1980s. Within the duo, Alison writes and performs all vocal elements, while Ryan is responsible for the writing and performing of the electronics, as well as recording and mixing of the final recordings.
For their debut album they utilized small, simple analog synthesizer set up: Roland SH-09, Roland Juno 6, Vermona DRM MKiii, Korg Poly 800 and Analogue Solutions Semblance. Linea Aspera’s sound includes clear influences from early electronic body music, classic synth-pop and, in some instances, industrial and noise. Lyrically the band incorporates the sciences of osteology, neuroscience, and anthropology weaving a new medical language around themes of desire, despair and renewal. Linea Aspera serve up an icebox of dark doom riding on Alison’s powerful vocals with a soft but sharp touch.
All songs have been mastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. Each LP is housed in a specially designed jacket by Dovile Shurpo and includes a full sized insert of all lyrics.

This makes me want to start my own nightclub just to play this album on a huge dance floor! Where has this album been all my life & how am I only hearing this now! 🎹🙏👽🤘🎧
Alison's vocals fit perfectly with the cold synth-sound tones. Great Album!
Sometimes something comes along that has you spellbound and you never forget the first time you heard it. This is one of those times.

4:53 EST ( 4-29-2023l) is the time I found that which I have been sorely missing!!
A god damn masterpiece is what this is
Just about everything she has done, has been of same consistent quality. But I like this the best.Straight up best electronica/mininal synth/dark wave album I have ever heard. All songs killer, beautiful. Her emotion is carried superbly in her vocals, effortless grace. The music matches her perfectly, the music is one big long nostalgic 80's electronica orgasm.Whatever music you are into , if you are not moved by this at all, you have no depth to your soul.

No worries. I found them only this year. Honestly I found Zanias first, and Linea Aspera then. Long time I thought Zanias have no connection to Linea Aspera despite I heard something common to Linea Aspera in Zanias music. But once I decided to check name of front-woman and was shocked. Haha.

Easily one of the best electronic albums of all time, same goes for goth/darkwave. Truly something special in modern music history imo, a totally unique album and expression despite the volume of work that it precedes, every song is a total banger.
One of the best darkwave projects I’ve ever found. Absolutely amazing depressive atmosphere and refreshing despite its’ minimalism. Her voice is paralyzing and soothing at the same time. “The warmth of a body in an empty bed When only the scent is left, only dissent is left...”

I think the lyrics are depressing, but the instrumental is pretty poppy & cheerful (sorta "minimalist rave-ish" on some of the faster/peppier songs). I like that contrast of happy music/sad lyrics (same with EBM's contrasts (e.g. Hocico's "Forgotten Tears", or babymetals contrasts of "kawaii (cute Japanese) death metal"), and how Alison often sings about depressing things, but in a matter-of-fact neutral voice...then other times very emotional.

I have found this LP 3 years ago and since then I have been playing it for a variety of people. ALL of them loved it and asked for a copy. This is one of those gem that you found sometimes in your life and it's incredible of people from different ages, background, culture can enjoy it the same way. Pure enjoyable quality music without being mainstream, cheap or "easy listening".

Just gorgeous ! Timeless minimal-electro-sound, mesmerizing voice - with effortless grace (thanks to Cold Daze - couldn't express it better). The Bandname indicating a medical/anatomical approach culminating in "Reunion" (my favorite song) - with cool distant cynical lyrics - in a way somehow reminding me of lyrics by Morrissey (The Smiths). Definitely an all-time class A album !
Something about this is absolutely soothing to me.

Some killer lyrics. This right here is something. It's like they found a sound inbetween The Sisters of Mercy and Depeche Mode. Shame I only just stumbled upon this now.

Favourite album of the last 10 years🖤
Every hair on my body stands up. Perfection.
This Album is so fantasic, so beautiful. My background is Techno, House, Electro and Drum n' Bass since 1989. But the biggest passion of all is proper detroit electro, depeche mode, and the very dark 80s. Everything that is magic, underground, hard and electronic. I discoverd linea aspera too late, much to late...
you can feel, touch the creativeness. That's a true master piece.

Yeah - pretty good. Like others here I think, I really like the straight forward approach that relies on good song writing and interesting variation. That lets the style shine through.
The city is melting...
like before listening. because Linea Aspera.
Every song on this would've been a hit in the 80's...these 2 were born into the wrong generation. Biology, archaeology...she's smart AND that voice ranges from dreamy to growling to bittersweet/wistful, like a siren it's making my brain go blank, then alternate to memories when I've been in the situations she describes, then analytical, then back to blankly wishing she was whispering that in my ear. ;-P
