Line 6 HELIX Snapshots Mode Tutorial

Музыка

In this video I will share how I utilize the Line 6 HELIX Snapshots mode in my cover band Crazy Delicious. We'll dive into how to set up Snapshots mode to have 8 individual snapshots per "preset" and how I set up a "preset" for every song we play along with sending amp channel change and midi control changes for each of the 8 snapshots foot switches.

    I rely on the HELIX so much that I ended up buying a second backup unit just in case I ever have any issues. I take it with me to out of town gigs just in case. Now I can also keep one in my studio to use there as well. Happy Holidays!

    My son and I say when we are thinking hard we smell bacon burning. Fire department just showed up! Incredible video. I am fairly new to guitar at 62 YOA (learning to play 4 years) and make technology cry when I try to figure it out. Helix is quite daunting at this point as I've had it for a week. I am using for Worship team at church so it should be fun. Thanks for your insight. If you have any "basics tutorials" send me some ideas please and thank you. RUSH fan?

    I'm actually working on a couple more HELIX videos right now. Not sure how basic they will be, but you should check them out if you can. And yeah, I am a RUSH fan. Not a super over the top fan, but I have seen them in concert 3 times. I've got the Alex Lifeson Gibson Les Paul Custom Shop guitar and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THAT GUITAR! Alex walked his own walk as a guitarist and I totally respect that. And also designed a pretty damn killer guitar as well!

    Thanks. I have been banging my head on this scene thing. Not one video out of the 6 I watched informed me about the blocks and that they had to be alike. But I have tried that and each time I save the 2nd snapshot, when I go back to the first one it takes on the characteristics of the one I just saved . It is not seperating my first snap which is clean and the second one with dirt. It turns them both to dirt.

  • @LarrytheMusicGuy

    Sorry for the delayed response, but I think I can explain what you need to do. You have to go into the "Controller Assign" menu and make sure you are on the "Block" you want to control. Once there you will have two menus - Parameter & Controller. Parameter will be what ever item you want to control, like volume, decay, etc. HERE'S MAIN THING YOU NEED TO DO WITH THE "CONTROLLER' MENU - SELECT "SNAPSHOTS". (It's the very last think you can select, so just crank the dial all the way to the end) When you select SNAPSHOTS under the Controller menu it allows you to edit each SNAPSHOT parameter and will save accordingly. TIP: You will know when you do this correctly as it will put ( ) Parenthesis around the "Controller" item you are controlling. You'll have to go into each "Snapshot" and edit the parameter accordingly. Let me know if this helps you accomplish what you are looking to do!

    Thanks for this. Currently when I step on a snapshot it pulls up all the individual stomp boxes on it, which I don't want. I want to just click on "verse", then "chorus", then "solo" etc. and switch between them with a single step, without having to go back one step. I.e. when I step on "verse" in my snapshot, I want to look down and still see the options for "chorus" and "solo", etc. instead of seeing, "delay", "Mod", etc. I got those parameters all set and don't need to turn them on or off mid song. Looks like that's what you've get set up here. Is the "Preset Mode Switches"--set to "8 snapshots" the key for this? Thanks!

  • @LarrytheMusicGuy

    @LarrytheMusicGuy

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes, in the Global Settings menu you have to have Preset mode Switches set to "8". Plus try and 'toggle' your top right hand footswitch that displays "Preset/Stomp". That will toggle between the stomp box option and the preset option you are looking for. I'd be curious to know if that helps resolve your issue.

    Great video, I have a quick question. If I change an effects parameter on my LT it changes it for all the snapshots within a preset. Is that how it should work? Is there a way to configure it where you can change an effects parameter and contain it within a snapshot?

  • @LarrytheMusicGuy

    @LarrytheMusicGuy

    2 жыл бұрын

    I hope I can remember this from memory as I don't have my HELIX set up at the moment, but you can go in and assign a "controller assign" function for any effects parameter that allows you to change that parameter by snapshot. So, let's say you want to control your Delay "Feedback" by snapshot. Toggle over to your Delay "BLOCK" and then go up and push the "3 line button" (up by the left toggle/dial - top right button) and then hit "controller assign". At the bottom left of the display you should see your Delay type with "Parameter" and "Controller" functions below. The "Parameter" function you can scroll through and pick "Feedback" and then scroll through the "Controller" function and select "Snapshots". It will then put a [bracket] around those parameters that are now controlled by each snapshot. Next step then is to go to each individual snapshot and make the parameter adjustments you want for each snapshot for the delay Feedback. If you want to adjust multiple parameters you just go back in and select a different parameter like say "Delay Level" and then go to controller again and select "snapshot". This is the way the HELIX works, so not sure if the LT will allow the same programming options, but I hope for you that it does! Let me know if this works!

    Can you set up a page for an amplifier with certain effects, and use the up down switches to jump to another rig with certain foot switches. I.E. you’re saving your snaps as songs, can you save the setting as an amp and have the ability to turn on/off the effects per page?

  • @LarrytheMusicGuy

    @LarrytheMusicGuy

    2 жыл бұрын

    So sorry for the delayed response. I also own my own water restoration company that got crazy busy these last few weeks. Anyway, just in case you didn't figure this out I'll offer my input. If I understand you correctly, you could essentially set up an "Amp" instead of a "Song" like I do for each "Preset". However, when you change Presets to go to a different amplifier you have that momentary gap in sound when changing to a different Preset. Staying within the same preset and utilizing the Snapshots mode avoids that momentary pause/gap. I hope that made sense?

    I was wondering if you could explain or send me to another video that explains how to run two paths like you do. One to an amp and the other to foh? I get the general idea of it but what are the settings at the end of the path? I mean normally the little arrow that opens up path two would have to be changed to something else. That's where I'm lost and I know it's probably simple I just haven't heard the answer I guess yet. Thanks

  • @television6318

    @television6318

    Not sure, but I'm guessing it might be that you set up the preset in stereo (instead of mono), so you get two paths.

  • @LarrytheMusicGuy

    @LarrytheMusicGuy

    2 жыл бұрын

    I'm sending a stereo direct signal from my Helix to FOH and then the other send for my mic'd amplifier is sent to FOH in mono. Stereo signals are panned hard right and left and then the mono amp signal is usually panned straight up in the center. My sound guy typically sets the stereo signal and then boosts my mono amp signal for leads when needed.

    I appreciate the effort. You took too long to explain the basics and repeated yourself too often for me to watch past 6 mins of the video. It seems like others enjoyed it but I would suggest you would have more of an effect if you got straight to the point. For instance how many times do you have to define what a snapshot is? We got it the first time. That's why we are here. We want to know how to utilise them properly. I hope your channel prospers and I only leave this as constructive criticism.
