Yes it is, it is possible for two or more trams leave the intersection at once so it's faster like this, when there is a lot of space in front of intersection. Otherwise if the switch would be right before the intersection, the second tram would have to wait until the first tram leaves the circuit of the switch, because the switches are radio controlled, two trams cannot be in certain distance of the switch at once. But because the switch is far from the intersection, two trams can go at once because they are already behind the switch on separate rails :).

In english I woukd call it "pre-sorting switch", because it's called "Vorsortierweiche" in german.

Kuba a jeho MHD v ČR Teď dokonce tu a tam i T3M.2DVC, dříve na lince 18 jezdily pouze 15T kvůli pilotnímu provozu jízdenkových automatů a garanci, že všechna pořadí na lince 18 budou tento automat mít, teď tím, že všechny typy tramvají určené k přepravě cestujíci kromě historických z linky 41 a ostatních muzejních mají tyto automaty, a tak je zbytečné na te lince držet 100 % nízkopodlažnost

The video is from Prague, Czech Republic. So mainly there are czech comments. I've been thinking about making english version of videos where I would explain the situation the same way as I explain it in Czech.

Few days ago, these videos had only few hundred to few thousand views primarily from Czech Republic and Slovakia, but now it's becoming more popular even outside our countries so it would be a good idea to add english subtitles, atleast via KZread subtitles feature :).
