One thing I would recommend for many instructors with YT Swing Channels is show a full-power dance move that shows the ultimate end point. Then, regress back to this. Viewers can go look at the full-power move and then appreciate the building blocks you show here. Great video, anyway, just saying.

I haven't gone swing dancing in a year and a half because of the pandemic, and I couldn't remember from my notes exactly what a Lindy circle was, so this was some helpful review. That said, I distinctly remember learning what my instructors referred to as the "swing out", and it's what you're referring to here as a "Lindy turn". Do you know of any reliable dance encyclopedia that defines these terms? Regardless, it's certainly possible that my instructors weren't using standard/correct terminology, especially considering that they were college students, not professional instructors. Furthermore, moving from closed position to open position _does_ sound a lot more like swinging _out_ than moving from open position to open position does. Thanks for the videos, and I wish that they had more views.

Hi! glad you found this helpful - were all a bit rusty after such a long time off the dance floor :) Re the steps name, if you'd ask Frankie Manning for instance, he would have called all three variations Swing Out (Closed to open position, open to open, open to close). It's later on (from the 80s/90s) that some teachers like ourselves chose to use different terms to help students in class (Swing Out = close to open, Lindy Turn = open to open, Lindy Circle = open to close). They are fairly widely known terms nowadays, but each teacher will have their preference. The important thing is: you can lead/follow someone else, whatever the name of the move!
