    As a shrink, I often talk about the OPTIONS out there for drinking - with The Sinclair Method being one of them. Some people recover with total abstinence, and others do better with different methods of harm reduction. We're all different and we all need different approaches to be our best selves :)

    Only pharmacological extinction ( aka TSM) actually rewires the brain at neurological level to pre AUD levels. All other methods which do not facilitate pharmacological extinction, leave the brain in an addictive state - meaning you are always "white knuckling it" & one drink away from relapse.

    Of course it's a long term thing - AUD wasn't learnt in a few months or years & pharmacological extinction takes time to rewire that deeply learnt behaviour at neurological level in the brain.

    The "bingey thing". I'd get that and / or replace with food binge. I guessed that when the effects were blocked, I was driven to get more of anything that would satisfy it. I'm not usually an overeater, hopefully extinguishing that as replacement as well. But I've put on a few pounds.

    got my prescription but its currently sitting on my bookshelf, every night I get close to my hour of regular drinking I look at the pill bottle, and I want to take one, but then another part of me says have your drinks, enjoy your little window of escape from my anxiety and depression, and I forgo my naltrexone. why do I do this knowing alcohol is not benefiting me and is damaging my mental health in the long run. Why can I go the whole day without a drink, but when the hour is upon me I want to feel that buzz. even though it drains me everyday. I need to man up and take the damn pill!

  • @stevecooper7038

    That's down to habitual behaviour if you can go all day without drinking but start at a set time each day. Habitual changes to drinking behaviour are just as important as 100% compliance with TSM protocol.

    I understand your challenge. I have heard from some people who struggle with skipping nal, that they take it earlier in the day when their "will power" to take it is stronger... rather than waiting for the hour when your desire to drink is very strong. Nikola Tesla is right it is a habit as well - so anything you can do to make this an easier habit to adapt... with time through TSM, you learn new ways to cope vs feeling like you need to escape...wishing you the best on this method

    I started taking Kane in the morning and tried not to put a lot of thought into it. After a couple weeks I kinda just thought…..wow…..haven’t drank that much. After a month my drinking has decreased by 80%. I’m not scared anymore.

    I finally got my Naltrexone pills. I have advice from a counselor. She says to take 25 mg Naltrexone (so halve a pill). I am doing that now for the second day. I fill in the drinking log, and then it is decided whether or not to increase to 50 mg. The 25 mg might be enough and is good to test if I can stand them. But let's first watch the whole video.

  • @stevecooper7038

    @stevecooper7038

    25mg is fine for the first 3-5 days while you acclimate to the medication. After that, you should certainly be taking the full 50mg dose, which is TSM protocol. 25mg isn't sufficient to fully block the opioid receptors in the brain. Dr Sinclair's research showed that the correct dosage to active this is 50mg naltrexone, one hour before your first drink - EVERY time you drink. If you're unfamiliar with the science and protocol of TSM, recommended reading is "The Cure for Alcoholism" by Dr Roy Eskapa.

    @@stevecooper7038 I try to find something about "extinction sessions". That are planned drink sessions after using Naltrexone, I think. I would like to know more about the details but cannot find it. The session could help the craving after that session. I heard about somebody doing "SD" during that session I think that is Single Drink (?). I think such extinction sessions in combination with little drinking (single or 2 drinks) might help the delearning process?

    I'm so glad she shared her story. For anyone considering the best treatment for them -- the 12 step program isn't always the best route for people, particularly women. Just know that the 12-step program was designed in the 1930's specifically for men who really did need a huge dose of humility and "surrendering" to turn their lives around. It's very shame-based and doesn't always work for people who already feel so much shame and guilt about their behavior, and can sometimes only lead to more secrecy, as evidenced by Lindsey's story. The Sinclair method is not restrictive but empowering. It makes a huge difference in your overall sobriety success.

    This is so true! I attended AA, bought the book, attended meetings and started working the steps. A few months in, I realized the program was just too formulated and didn’t allow for the individual’s real world circumstances - I fell back into old patterns 10 fold. I feel empowered with naltrexone and TSM

    I took my first dose of naltrexone about a week ago, I was so excited to get started but around the 1st hour of taking it I felt a little anxiety attack followed by super sleepiness is this a common thing when starting out or should I lower the does even more. I haven’t taken a pill since cause I don’t want to have that feeling again but i can tolerate it for a couple days if I know it will go away. If you have any advise I’d be more than glad to hear it thank you and love the channel.
