I’ve read some comments from Spanish speaking viewers who said they could tell that she is not singing in her first language. Her father was Mexican and she grew up a few miles from the border, in Tuscon, Arizona. She is very passionate about her Mexican heritage which is evidenced by the joy on her face as she sings these beautiful songs. As a child, she thought people spoke in English and that Spanish was a magical musical language for singing. She’s an amazing human being and can no longer sing due to a neurological disorder. That is a terrible tragedy and loss for all of us. 🌺✌️

@@peregrinefalcon6747 But her father was a Mexican of German descent, and Americans DO like to break up their European lineage into groups they like to represent and aknowledge. That means that just as you can describe someone as "Mexican-American" because he/she is born in the U.S. from Mexican parents, you can also refer to someone who has a Mexican parent with German ancestry as being "American of Mexican/German descent". Nothing wrong with that... or particularly unusual.

Her paternal Grandfather immigrated from Northern Mexico in 1946 to the Sonoran area of Arizona. They were a ranching family. Linda got a lot of questions because his name (Ronstadt) was not one most Americans associate with Mexican ancestry. That's why the German descent became so prevalent in descriptions of her ancestry.

She is a huge part of the American fabric by being a trailblazer in American Rock. As she got older, she also realized how important her Mexican heritage was and was an embassador for Folkloric Mexican music. Her album “Canciones de mi Padre” are an homage to that! So proud! You should also react to her songs in English. Just as wonderful and great! “You’re no Good” “Blue Bayou” Just to start. Once you go down this path with Linda Rondstadt you will be there for a while. And because you guys are so appreciative of different cultures, you will see just how enormous her legacy is. I love your reactions and I am so proud of Linda. Linda is Mexican American and she speaks perfect Spanish and English and very fluent in both as her roots and heritage are from Mexico too. She is one of our wonderful Mexican American Icons and loved through out the United States. Mariachi definitely and absolutely brings out the soul of the music and fully encompasses the listeners heart. If I can suggest an other wonderful artist who uses his personal Mariachi band (and they are super) is Luis Miguel and the song is "La Bikina", you'll absolutely love it and him too. Enjoy. Linda is half Mexican and half German. She did not speak Spanish growing up. She learned to sing these songs by studying the meaning and taking lessons in Spanish and she is such a perfectionist that she didn't record until her pronunciation was perfect. She did a second album of these songs and then another album, "Frenesy" which has some more Cuban rhythms.

Most people think of Linda Ronstadt as a singer of the 70s. However, two of her biggest selling studio albums were from the 80s...."What's New" and "Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind". Both of those albums are currently certified at triple platinum in sales. Her former manager and producer, Peter Asher, said that Linda's record sales have not been audited in the last 20 years, and her record sales is actually much higher. Linda's first Spanish language album, "Canciones de mi padre", is still the biggest selling Spanish language album in the US.

To this day, she has the largest selling non English album in US history, which is pretty amazing considering the US has one of the world’s largest Spanish speaking populations, and where entire genres of music like salsa originated and home to so many Spanish language musical artists known worldwide. Her aunt was a very successful singer in Mexico and her father was a singer too (though not professionally). There is no one in American music history who has been successful in so many different musical genres than Linda.

She doesn't speak Spanish but she learnt the songs phonetically. She's American who grew up in the Mexican American border of Arizona. Her father was Mexican with some German heritage hence her last name. Her mother American. She said that she grew up listening to Mexican radio and thought that Spanish was a singing language and English was for speaking. She wanted to honor the songs she liked growing up so she did a couple of records to honor her father. This is one of the most popular mariachi records and dinner Mexicans didn't even know Linda didn't speak Spanish. She nailed the style perfectly. Another non Mexican to triumph in mariachi was Rocío Durcal from Spain. I hope you can react to her since she was Juan Gabriel's favorite singer.

Something that many folks forget - or are unaware of... is the southwestern US was originally settled by Spain, and then was part of Mexico before becoming part of the US... so there is some shared heritage there. As others have said, Linda grew up in Tucson, Arizona and does have a mixed heritage. Her sensitivity to the music comes through very clearly in her artistry.

Watching and listening to Linda and all the mariachi is more fun than an actual rodeo (charreada). This is my favorite Spanish song/performance of hers. The most "impressive" part is the way she hits that single note spot on, then holds it perfectly steady for incredibly long before abruptly cutting it. She doesn't merely "come close" to the note and then correct it, but hits it precisely. I think it's much harder to hold that note steady than move to another note, because if there were any variation in the note, we would hear the imperfection. The prettiest sounding and most fun to watch are the parts where she has a lot of inflections in voice and is animated with gestures.

It’s perfect if somebody’s telling you, they hear an accent they don’t know what they’re talking about. Her great great great grandfather who is German who moved to Sonora Mexico the family was split up because the border moved, and the United States took over that part of Mexico. A charreada is a Mexican "Rodeo" where the charros (Mexican riders, like cowboys) tame horses, ride bulls and do a number of amazing stunts. The charreada is the national sport of Mexico. Those nice costumes the mariachi are wearing, actually are the outfit of Charros, of course ther is some "gala" Charro costume all adorned in silver, and there is a "Brega" (or hard work) charro costume that is far more utilitarian, and yet just as beautiful. Greetings from an old Charro in the state of Mexico.

Hello guys, I like your videos because your reactions are very spontaneous and natural, the natural translation into the word "charreada" would be something like "the rodeo", without horseback riding practices that originated in the Maxican countryside to herd cattle. , but as they are practiced by the charros (from whom the mariachis took their clothing), that is why they are called "charreadas." In regard with The comparison with the romanian dances in a certain degree with the mexican dances, I just have to tell my friend merchandofalba that the mariachi music is an adaptation of the european music and european dances in Mexico and in the other hand remember that the mariachi are musicians and the charros are the charro cowboys and in the video the dancers are representing charros with elegant costumes.

She is very much Mexican-American Latina. She grew up outside of Tucson AZ on her grandfather's hacienda. Her father was German-Mexican her mother was from Detroit, MI. Growing up they sang in Spanish but the public school in the 50-60s English was spoken at school and if the kids spoke Spanish they would be punished. When Linda set out to do Spanish-language albums she had to learned the songs phonetically and re-learn the Spanish she knew as a child.

Spanish is not her first language. Her grandfather immigrated to Arizona from Germany hence “Ronstadt” a German name. She grew up in the Mexican culture on a rural ranch close to the border of Mexico. This is the culture of the Vaquero (Cowboy) and Rodeo.

Mexican music is about storytelling of your feelings either about melancholy or happiness. To tell a story through singing is more important than showing off vocals, yet, mariachi in particular had a classical singing core, therefore, you must hit she pipes anyways.
