📝 Lyrics:
Love will abide
Take things in stride
Sounds like good advice
But there's no one at my side
And time washes clean
Love's wounds unseen
That's what someone told me
But I don't know what it means
'Cause I've done everything I know
To try and make you mine
And I think I'm gonna love you
For a long, long time
Caught in my fears
Blinking back the tears
I can't say you hurt me
When you never let me near
And I never drew
One response from you
All the while you fell
All over girls you never knew
'Cause I've done everything I know
To try and make you mine
And I think it's going to hurt me
For a long, long time
Wait for the day
You'll go away
Knowing that you warned me
Of the price I'd have to pay
And life's full of flaws
Who knows the cause?
Living in the memory
Of a love that never was
'Cause I've done everything I know
To try and change your mind
And I think I'm going to miss you
For a long, long time
'Cause I've done everything I know
To try and make you mine
And I think I'm gonna love you
For a long, long time

I'm driving home and long long time came on radio I start listening to the lyrics. And I haven't heard this song in over 30or 40yrs.But these lyrics just tore me up.After reading the comments I realize this song has the same effect on alot of people. And Linda sang the hell out of it,it was her voice that put so much feeling into it.

This song saved my marriage, We were so close to ending it, but after watching The Last of Us, I was so moved an called her. I said “Thanks for always choosing love with me, I would feel like a part of me would die if you left and I would not fully recover if we ended it.” We have been fostering good will with each other and things seem to be looking good so far. People who matter are worth fighting for, even if it means humbling yourself. Thanks Last of Us and thank you Linda for softening my heart.

I fought hard for the wrong person for 6 years, even moving thousands of miles away from my loved ones with him for his job because that's what you do for love, right? Well anyway, long story short - he wrecked my life, and I found myself very lost & hopeless until reuniting with my old best friend who has known me since I was 16 (I'm 41 now). I had no idea how deep my best friend's feelings were for me, even romantically, but now we've been together for over a year, and he put this song on our collaborative playlist. I had a beautiful friend who worked on the original TLOU video game that passed away recently, and my lover knows how much this series means to me. Insert instant tears.

Beautiful words that id love to say to a person who doesnt feel the same. Even when you are certain they feel the same 9 out of 10 times their looking somewhere else. We're in a rat race. Im not i sit back and watch. Eventually even after years it all falls down. The old love generation is gone. Welcome to the narcissistic generation. The greedy generation. The spoilt generation. Love to this generation is money. Its not about how you feel anymore and not that long ago it was all about what you felt. Wether the person was sick healthy rich or poor love was love. God be with the days ❤❤

now, this song will always remind me of Bill and Frank. On how they lived their lives loving each other. On how Bill actually just lived liking one person which is Frank feeling like it’s his purpose in life. Them dying both after the wine drinking slaps so hard because Frank is sick but Bill just doesn’t wanna be left alone so thinking that better be with him for eternity. Love always wins indeed :))

I'd like to be able to say time heals this wound but it doesn't, it just scars it over. 5 years? Try decades. But if you love someone so much that you'd die for them, you also must love them enough to live for them. And loving someone doesn't mean you can't also find some level of love and even happiness with someone else. So be sure to live a life...and maybe someday you'll slowly begin to realize that it is worth living. Good luck.

@@lynnpoint6395 hello and thanks for such a good reply. It was love at first sight, back in time she used to be my instructor in college and I was her favourite student. She's something 8 years elder than me. But I never confessed her as she was about to get married that time and later on she got divorced too. She came to know about my feelings from others and then one day she asked me, I confessed but she said she don't trust men for relationships anymore as something went seriously wrong which led to her breakup after her newly wedding. So today I'm actually moved on from her, I totally focus on myself my lifestyle my goal my fitness everything. But sometimes things and surroundings make me reminisce her just like this song. It may sound funny but I don't even talk to girls and women much as whenever I do I try finding her resemblance, sometimes I miss her and can't control my tears, idk why this happens, but it is what it is. I still love her tho.. lol 💔

The line “cause I’ve done everything I know to try and make you mine and I think I’m gonna love you for a long long time” is fitting. This song speaks volumes for how feel. But like the comic book in the game stats. I’m going to endure and survive

I had not heard this song since I was in High School. I am married to a wonderful man, and after watching the Last of Us, I remembered the song and reminded how in love I am with my Partner. I love you Chris, and I think I am going to love you, for a long long time.

This is an incredible song, but just a drop in the bucket of her catalog and hits. She has a way of showing power and vulnerability like no one else. She was a BIG DEAL in the 70's, filling stadiums! Her music will live on forever! Check out two of her other signature songs, Blue Bayou and Desperado. Then dive in!

Love will abide Take things in stride Sounds like good advice But there's no one at my side And time washes clean love's wounds unseen That's what someone told me But I don't know what it means 'Cause I've done everything I know To try and make you mine And I think I'm gonna love you For a long long time Caught in my fears Blinking back the tears I can't say you hurt me When you never let me near And I never drew one response from you All the while you fell all over girls you never knew 'Cause I've done everything I know To try and make you mine And I think it's gonna hurt me For a long long time Wait for the day you'll go away Knowing that you warned me Of the price I'd have to pay And life's full of flaws Who knows the cause? Living in the memory of a love that never was 'Cause I've done everything I know To try and change your mind And I think I'm gonna miss you For a long long time 'Cause I've done everything I know To try and make you mine And I think I'm gonna love you For a long long time

holy crap. I'm 44 and have always like to this song. But I never ever thought I'd relate to it in a million years.... And then I met my Twin Flame at work, who happens to be married with a family. We've never done anything more than flirty texts, expressing how bad we want each other....BUT can't do so, .. And the intensity of our eye contacts and gazes..omg... it's indescribable.. it feels like there's a whole other universe out there.. And then at one point he backed off and gave me lame excuses that I can not argue with.... But once he sees me starting to feel better, no longer sad and disappointed that he took the thing I enjoyed the most away... he starts flirting and texting me again.... Just to later give me another lame excuse that we have to stop (usually it's a 1 month on, 2 months off cycle) (reminder we've never kissed and anything beyond that) ... Anyways.. that time in-between the lame excuse and just starting talking again... this song is perfect, I now know what the lyrics all mean

@@kylecompton3305 Linda is by far my favorite singer, more talent and true singing skills (rather than screeching high note skills) than just about anyone. She had a lot of hits but only 2 number one hits and most, if not all of her hits had been hit recordings from the original artist. The artists of today have social media to create a brand and a fan base catapulting them to number one hits, one after the other. Mariah Carey has a slew of number one hits. On the country charts there are a boatload of people with them too. I don’t think Linda cared about having hits. Most of the songs I like best of hers were never a hit.

The Stone Poneys aren’t the Eagles. Don Henley and Glenn Fry joined her band years after her days with The Stone Poneys. When they decided they wanted to be their own band, she helped them, and I believe suggested that they get Bernie Leadon and or Randy Meisner to join them.

I wish she was still well enough to sing--at least for her own pleasure. Just found out she wrote a book called "Feels Like Home in 2002.
