I have gone to the top of those steps twice already & I look forward to doing it again in the near future. What a beautiful & breathtaking statue it is. Abraham Lincoln was a great man & a great president. It seems like the good presidents are assassinated, I think that he’s the kind of man that we all need now but there are no honest presidents like Pres. Lincoln.

If you visit the memorial, be sure to follow up with the Lincoln Cottage, also in DC, where there is the desk at which he wrote the Emancipation Proclamation.

When I read Lincoln's cottage still exists, I expected to see pics of a small 2 bedroom tiny window thatched roof cottage like we have in England, I didn't expect to see a huge multi roomed mansion . That is NOT a cottage ..

He married into a family who owned, brought and sold many slaves, He said "owning slaves is not a sin" . "Slavery exists and we shouldn't rush to give them uo' He dithered and delayed action , he said slavery was so ingrained in US history he worried what would happen if the 4million slaves in the USA were released . I'd you read about him , you'll find out he said many things in public that he didn't adhere to.
