Late reply but “thank you 5” just means thank you to the person reminding you to get to places before the show starts; and there’s only 5 minutes left until opening show. If the actor has to put their costume in 5 minutes then they messed up and should had been there an hour before opening 😬

When screlting came up I imagined Eliza in “stay alive” when she sings “alexAnder did YoU KNOWW?!!!” The “know” part is what u would consider a good dramatic screlt , you can tell she’s sort of screaming it.

For some reason I thought of the end of the title song of "Phantom of the Opera," where the Phantom keeps trying to get Christine to sing for him, and she sings higher and higher till finally hitting this crazy high note (an E6 I think). But that's just vocalizing really.

Not a musical theater example, but my mind goes immediately to what Paul McCartney does in late period Beatles songs such as Helter Skellter, Oh Darling and I've Got a Feeling

"thank you, five" You know, the thing that both the people he shared a dressing room with in Hamilton didn't do (Leslie would dress two minutes before, Jon often after, the show started)

Fun fact: One of the musicals my school had put on was canceled due to a blackout. SOMEBODY said the name of the scottish play that morning. Skip a year later, about a week before our opening show that certain somebody said it again, we had a brief blackout the day before the show.

In our community theatre in my small town we also do thank you places when intermission is almost over or it's almost time to start the show and places have been called backstage. You say thank you 5 or thank you places to acknowledge that you have heard 5 minutes or places. See Urinetown, which we did last summer, didn't really have a thank you places for the start because our director didn't want us all pre-set on stage she wanted us wandering in at different times leading up to overture and such because we were the poor waiting for the public amenity to be open for the morning.
