I love this! My living room has an entire brick wall that was painted tan when I purchased my house. I painted it white as fast as I could and I've loved it ever since. I am looking into the limewash though for the exterior of my house! It was built in '82 and I just don't love my brick like I want to!

My husband is a Journeyman Painter and he says limewash is not as stable as paint, dusts off when touched, eventually not holding up for this application. I have seen limewashed walls in higher end homes hes done (also no kids or pets) and its beautiful and old world looking.

I love it. I think you made a good decision. The mantle and firebox pop.

Good call leaving it. The mantle looks so much "righter" with the bricks like this. And it all ties in now. Amazing the way that worked. I'm in mid cent modern with the most hideous colored bricks ranging from a sandy color to almost pink.. Not sure what to do but I've been looking at vids and so far yours gives me hope of a decent outcome. But my room is so different than yours with those big windows and airiness... Anyway, excellent job.

My husband was iffy too but at the end of the day I won him over. It helps that our's was only a brick facade.

Great job here… I know many have asked, but can you recall your dilution ratio? On the product itself, it gives a range (it also varies on the Romabio site). How long did you wait between coats? Also, how is it holding up so far? Thanks!

It looks really good! Curious what type of paint brush did you use? The instructions on my product say to use a masonry brush which we don’t have. I’m wondering if we can just use a regular paint brush.

I used a masonry brush like suggested and a smaller angled brush. The masonry brush was great for covering large areas. The smaller brush was used for corners and cracks. You could probably use a regular brush the whole time. It’s just going to take longer.

I love this! Where did you buy the the limewash and what color was it? I have the exact same color brick and have been going back and fourth about doing it, but after watching your video I’m sure I want to!

I wiped it down and vacuumed any tiny bits of loose stone, but other than that, nothing. I didn't wash.

Is it functional? I see you have an insert so the brick gets pretty warm- no oders, discoloration, or other unwanted problems?

Yes it’s functional. No issues with order or smell. The only thing in terms of discoloration is if you get soot on it you have to vacuum it up or pull it up with tape. It’s wood burning too.

I’ve been wanting to change the color of brick fireplace.I’ve watched videos on regular paint white washing and chalk paint also.This is my first video learning about lime wash. I went to reviews on this brand and almost all were 5stars but a few said it was easily scratch off.Do you find that a problem? One last question about color is yours is a stark white or a softer white but not a cream color as I don’t want any yellow hues.I appreciate any input you can offer as I want to get the courage to go for it.Take Care

Mine is avario white. I don't have issues with it scratching off at all. I did have a candlestick fall on my hearth and that took a chunk out of the brick, so of course the color came off then, but that's it.

Where did you purchase your wood mantle? I just limewashed our fireplace and I’m having a hard time finding that color stain.

It was here when we bought the house but it’s reclaimed wood. And it’s raw. There’s not a stain on it or even a sealing.

I love how it turned out. It that a wood burning insert? If so what brand and how well does it heat?

It is a wood burning insert. I'm not sure what brand. The old owners put it in but we love it. It has a blower and heats really well. It could probably heat the whole room if we needed it to.

As I give this more thought, I wonder if the difference is that yours is a lime wash. It' looks more authentic somehow compared to the white washes I've see that remind of the "distressed" furniture silliness of a few years ago. Is it more expensive? Is it something you add to paint or is it a paint you buy as is?

Limewash like I used is more expensive than whitewashing by using just a thinned white paint. But it's better for the brick and made for the brick so...

Could you please tell me ratio of water to lime wash mixture.. I really want to get started but definitely want outcome to look likes yours.One other question I saw in several videos that you should have brick misted before applying lime wash. Did you do that?

I didn’t mist it. I just went for it. I saw that too but no one really seemed to articulate the point of it. We followed the instructions on the packaging for the ratios.

We followed the instructions on the can. I did however do two coats of it, even though they say you don’t have to. The second coat gave it a less transparent finish. I tested it on a corner first and then decided I liked the more solid color.

The suggested one on the label. I did end up doing two coats of the limewash. It says you don't need to but I tried it on a spot and liked the color better. I don't remember if I mentioned that int he video.

Hi Marilyn, Sorry! I answered you in my head and got distracted. It's safe for the exterior of fireplaces. I'm not sure about the interior. We have an insert so we didn't need to paint that. It's also not technically a paint. However, it's said to be fire resistant and fire retardant. Its also mold and bacteria resistant due to the high Ph of lime in it, according to angi.com
