Hearing Between Two Worlds for the first time in-game was a ride and a half, let me tell you. Limbus Company's story is organized by Cantos (what the game calls the main story chapters), and this plays for the final boss of Canto 3. Before then, there weren't any vocal songs for the bosses, and then you go into the boss' first phase with Mili singing this ethereal Christmas carol for the first phase of the fight (World of Light). You think, "oh cool, Mili's finally singing for a boss fight," and then you hit the fight's second phase with the second part of the song and its aggressive and twisted atmosphere (World of Darkness), and you're just _floored_ by the contrast. I think this was the part of the game where a lot of Project Moon fans were really sold on the game, and it set the stage for future Cantos to have these big, emotionally charged final boss fights with Mili songs to accompany them. To give a bit more context on the song and the situation where it plays though, I would first like to mention that Limbus Company has 12 playable characters (collectively called The Sinners) that are based on major characters from famous literature, and each Canto focuses on one of the Sinners. There's one Sinner based on Ishmael from Moby Dick, one based on Don Quixote from... Don Quixote, one based on Odysseus from The Odyssey, and so on. What's neat is that the game remixes each character's story arc to better fit in with the game's setting, and it's cool to note all the similarities/differences between how the book's events and the game's events play out if you ever grew up reading these novels. Canto 3 focuses on Sinclair from Demian (which you may or may not have heard of; it's more popular in South Korea, apparently). His story is basically a coming-of-age story where he learns to balance the idealized, innocent world of his childhood (world of light) with the more morally ambiguous world of adulthood (world of darkness). Mili's songs tend to be from the point of view of the Sinners instead of the boss, and that's why there's that sharp contrast between the two parts of the song, as it reflects Sinclair's harrowing journey across the two worlds. There's a _lot_ to analyze in the song, and much of the lyrics directly reference lines in the book, so it's definitely a song that you appreciate much more with full context. But... it's also fun to just spring on people who have no idea what to expect... like what happened here. The second song plays in the end credits of Canto 1. Each chapter of Limbus Company ends in a credits song sung by the respective voice actor for each of the focus Sinners, and each time, the same song is played, with the same lyrics. However, the song's genre is different each time, mostly to match the personality of the Sinner and the mood of the Canto. It's honestly pretty surprising how a change of genre can completely alter the meaning of the lyrics, and it's fascinating to listen to all the different versions of the credits themes back-to-back. The one you just listened to is sung by Gregor (as in, Gregor Samsa, the guy in Kafka's Metamorphosis that was transformed into an insect), and as he's a pretty gloomy guy trapped in gloomy circumstances, I'd say the bluesy feel perfectly fits him. P.S. Mili has a huge discography on Spotify that you can check out whenever you have the time. Some of the popular ones are world.execute(me); and Sustain++, but I'm partial to RTRT myself.

All of PMs games have a wide variety of music, with the Mili songs being the most remembered and generally the most unique ones. In Limbus company the Mili tracks are also pretty much reserved to the final boss fights which gives us players something big to link it to in our minds and allows us to appretiate it beyond just being music. I hope to see you enjoy more PM stuff in the future.

There are actually several versions of Pass On. The game is divided into character arcs and as you surmised, this is the credits song for which each character has its own version when an arc concludes. For Mili songs that aren't game-related, it's hard to pick something that is really representative of the band as a whole because the genres can still vary wildly and we still largely don't know what to expect when a song hits (except that it's going to be a banger). Regardless, "world.execute(me);" is probably one of their earliest most popular song. But you can also check "Sleep Talk Metropolis" if you want something more recent. My favorite one is "Camelia" which is kind of an outlier since it's tango-like, a genre they haven't really explored much outside of this one song.

Before what will probably be a tidal wave of various levels of explanation, I'll just list off the music chronology. Limbus Company, third in the series of PM-verse games, launched with 4 notable songs. There were 3 versions of the same song, all with different themes and singers, but the same lyrics. They were chapter End Credits and had a style that ran parallel to the story presented. 1. Pass On - Gregor 2. Pass On - Rodya/Rodion *3. Between Two Worlds - Mili 4. Pass On - Sinclair (* are notable "Big Moments" that happen within the story.) Now that we've hit chapter 6 after a full year, the lineup has these inclusions: *5. Fly, My Wings - Mili 6. Pass On - Yi Sang *7. Compass - Mili 8. Pass On - Ishmael *9. Through Patches of Violet - Mili (Note: Multiple mixes due to two concurrent tracks that are interchangeable for thematic reasons.) 10. Pass On - Heathcliff I did not include the Studio EIM tracks because there are so many good songs that either don't have lyrics or are hard to find cause they don't have consistent names. I'll leave that to the pros.

Until Canto 6, Between two worlds has been an ABSOLUTELY unbeatable limbus ost produced this far to me. The story of a bird, hatched prematurely, not ready to fledge - yearning to return to the constricting, yet safe egg - yet, the shell of which has rotten. A child, so afraid of stepping into adulthood, seeking a guardian to look after him. The road behind him collapses, but he's not ready to step forward; the ground split, cracking, the cold and the fear, he needs to learn to face on him own.

The order goes essentially Lobotomy Corporation into Library of Ruina into Limbus Company, but the scenarios between each game differ despite being sequels to each other. Mili does songs starting from Library of Ruina for the opening/notable bosses and for Limbus she does the opening song collaborated with Myth & Roid along with the chapter finale boss themes. Mili typically does anime openings or endings(Goblin Slayer/Ghost in the Shell/Executioner and Her Way of Life), but is more iconic for her Project Moon songs I'd say, but she has some pretty famous stand alone songs. Personally I like Sustain++ and Paper Bouquet, but world.execute(me) is her most popular video which are all non-videogame related. For the second song, Limbus revolves around you taking care of 12 "sinners" and each chapter revolves around one of them, so they sing their respective credits theme with Pass On as the base of the theme and them adding onto it each with their own variants for their character's story.

The boss herself ruined Sinclair's life and yet it didn't turn him into the Project Moon universe's version of Batman.

11:33 kind of an explanation about the song, but be warned because *you will be spoiled* Between Two Worlds follows the story of Emil Sinclair, a boy (probably not in junior high at the time), who lived in a village famous for its innovative prosthetics and their inventors. Sinclair is the son of an inventor who was contacted by a 'Nest' (just think of it as a country) to build prosthetics for them. Sinclair, unlike anyone in his home village, has a deep feeling of disgust for prosthetics, questioning why people would willingly forgo their human wholeness for a 'more efficient alternative', especially when they had no unfortunate circumstances which required a prosthetic surgery. So, with Sinclair's character in mind, one day, Sinclair is in a classroom, and his classmates are pressuring him to disclose details about his family's business. Sinclair slips up, and reveals his father's contract, but one girl named Kromer notices a look in his eyes and face, and thinks Sinclair might have something against prosthetics. Kromer, a professional manipulator, catches Sinclair off-guard, but she reveals that she also harbors deep animosity towards prosthetics. But unlike Sinclair, Kromer is something of a radicalist, and sincerely believes in 'human wholeness'. Over some period of time, Sinclair and Kromer become acquainted well, and Kromer, pulling Sinclair's strings, asks him for the key to his basement. Too entrusting to question her why, Sinclair gives in, and the two sneak into the basement of his house. Sinclair, suddenly feeling overwhelming dread from his current circumstances and what led up towards, and what will come next, is panicking and wishing it wasn't too late to turn around and return the keys to his father. Kromer did not return the keys to Sinclair. Finally understanding why Kromer wanted to go into his basement, Sinclair and Kromer see something literally undescribable. Sinclair's world is falling apart, he's probably about to suffer from a cardiac arrest, but Kromer is cackling wildly at the sight, so much that she disregards that Sinclair ran away. Sinclair, having not spoken to or with Kromer for weeks on end, remembers everything vividly--especially that Kromer still has the keys to his basement. Desperately trying to muster up the courage to even interact with Kromer, Sinclair asks for the keys back, and Kromer returns the keys, saying that 'they didn't need them anymore.' That evening, Sinclair returns home, and Kromer has impaled all of his family with nails and a wide smile on her face, then caving their skulls in with a railroad spike mallet. Sinclair can only freeze at the sight, and is struggling to even breathe, cry, or keep his eyes open. Sinclair passes out, but he is not spiked by Kromer. *In conclusion:* The name of the song, "Between Two Worlds," probably refers to the loss of Sinclair's seeming innocence after sneaking into the basement, with his worldview completely shattered and soon, his entire family slain. The "World of Light," of course, is probably about Sinclair before meeting Kromer, and the "World of Dark" is probably about the point of no return that he crossed when he didn't run away from the basement with Kromer.

Pass On is indeed a credits song because credits in the game play at the end of each act with the Pass On being sung with the main character of said act, they're professional voice actors but not necessarily professional singers so these end up sounding very heartfelt and carry the context of all that just happened throughout their act. And let me tell you the characters are broken over and over and so the Pass On song always feels like a release both for the character and the player.

Mili's style is so distinct from anything I've ever heard from other artists, and that extends throughout their work as a whole I feel. Something of note, there's a few different versions they have of Between Two worlds, and I highly recommend checking out the "Lament" version of the song, which is mostly an acapella by Cassie, but the structure is so different. Pretty much all of Mili's library is excellent in my opinion, their work for Project Moon, for Goblin Slayer which is where I first encountered them, and then some of their other solo work is just beautiful. Mili shifts genre pretty frequently, and so too do the tones. Some of the most obvious starting points for Mili as a whole though would probably be stuff like: "World.Execute(me)" "Ga1ahad and Scientific Witchery" , "Camelia", and maybe if you're fine with Anime songs, check out "Rightfully" which has a really interesting video to it and also was my personal start on this journey. Secondarily some personal favorites of mine are "Give me Rice" "RTRT", "Sideshow Duckling", "Mirror Mirror" , "Bathtub Mermaid", and "Extension of You".

So, about why there are many different genres and music styles in the games: All games take from different cultural literature products, and since many characters are direcly taken from novels, books and sometimes authors from different parts of the world the music reflects that. I think this is also part of the reason of why so many people feel attached to these games so much, everyone can relate to at least one of the inspirations taken, everyone can feel included in the culture of at least some of the characters (as an example i am italian so of course i know about orlando furioso , orlando innamorato , la divina commedia and most other european related novels like moby dick or don quixote)

For context, the 2 parts of Between Two Worlds play during the fight against Kromer, who is the leader of a band of fanatics that have been brainwashed by a corporation to go and try to kill anyone that has prosthetics, the church choirs play when you fight her as a human and the rest does when she turns into an anatomy monster because she likes the human form that much. She, as well as Sinclair which is the character her story is intertwined with are both based on the book Demian, which the song heavily references as well, the 2 parts being titled world of light/world of darkness after the concepts from the book, where the protagonist considers that which is familiar and welcoming but monotous part of the world of light and that which is dangerous and unknown but thrilling part of the world of darkness. Through circumstances, said protagonist eventually becomes more or less the slave of a young deliquent named Franz Kromer due to him making Emil Sinclair, the protagonist, commit crimes and thus threatening to report him to the police should he stop doing what he asks him, but is eventually saved by Demian, and that where the whole rebirth themes in the lyrics comes from. Several lyrics directly reference some scenes of the book, like "a sentient canvas"

I don't have much to add, beside maybe the fact Mili made another version of Between Two Worlds. It's not featured in the game, and it's quite different from this one, but it might be worth listening if you liked this one. As far as other Mili songs go, I would recommend "Compass" if it wasn't in Limbus as well... "Ocean BBY" is safe and pretty good, in their somewhat recent stuff. Pass On is indeed credits. At the end of every chapter, we get a new version of it, with the character that was the focus of the chapter as the singer. The game also shows a picture of the whole gang while it plays, which never fails to bring a tear. I am not big on all of the versions of Pass On, but they are always an important moment regardless. As you have noticed, Project Moon has a very passionate fanbase, which is probably the result of the uniqueness of their games. Expect some sleeper agents jokes in the comments with every PM related video.

Many different gameplay styles and all, but same world and thus what happened in previous games affects what's happening in Limbus (since it's a live service)

Within the game itself, yes, there are subtitles for the lyrics.

Reasons why I love this channel, I get to find all new kinds of music I never would have otherwise. I'm also sure you already have a bunch of Hades request, but Coral Crown from Hades 2 is so amazing. More magic from Darrern Korb

If you are curious about Mili outside of Project moon, "Ga1ahad and scientific witchery" and "world.execute(me)" are considered somewhat of a classics

Sarajinae/Pass On is interesting because there's 6 different variations of it, one for each Sinner who's had a Canto focusing on them. Each of their variants are vastly different, reflecting how differently everyone processed the events of the story. The versions you reacted to was Gregor's, focal character of Canto I: The Outcast, and it's a blues rock track, fitting for the tone of his ending. By contrast, Yi Sang's (yellow) and Ishmael's (orange) are significantly more upbeat because they ended up in much better places emotionally.

Consider Grown-up's Paradise ("Arknights" Image Song) posted on Mili's channel. You will see the full Mili band and Cassi too. Also, that song is fire.

I love that you said you don't know what to expect from Project Moon music because that really applies to the story, too. Especially in Limbus Company, since each chapter revolves around a specific character and those characters are each based on a classic of world literature, the story has a way of moving between tones with real ease. There's always the throughline of psychological trauma and recovery from it but the emotional stakes in the most recent chapter revolved around two lovers tearing each other and everyone around them apart due to their miscommunication while the chapter before it was a slow pressure cooker of a story about blind obsession and mania

Completely understandable that it is very difficult to express or understand what is going on for the mili songs. I feel like there is only an upper limit of understanding without sufficient context, because a lot of the harmonics/vocals etc come from characters or symbols in the story which fresh view is not easy to distinguish against the overall backdrop
