Η Θάσος γνωστή και ως Λιμένας βρίσκεται στο βόρειο τμήμα, αποτελεί την πρωτεύουσα του νησιού και το διοικητικό κέντρο του. Είναι το κοντινότερο σημείο με την ηπειρωτική Ελλάδα, διαθέτει το κεντρικό λιμάνι του νησιού και συνδέεται ακτοπλοϊκά με την Κεραμωτή.
Είναι χτισμένη σε μια καταπράσινη περιοχή γύρω από λόφους και σε κοντινή απόσταση υπάρχουν πολλές παραλίες με όλες τις σύγχρονες ανέσεις. Η Θάσος (Λιμένας) είναι μία σύγχρονη κωμόπολη χωρίς να στερείται της γραφικότητας. Μάρτυρας της ιστορίας της είναι οι πολλοί αρχαιολογικοί χώροι που υπάρχουν ανάμεσα στις δομές της προβάλλοντας την αντίθεση της αρχαιότητας με το σήμερα.
Thassos, which is also known as Limenas, is the capital and the administrative centre of its namesake island. It is located in the northern part of it and it is the nearest place to the Greek mainland. It hosts the central harbor of the island which is linked with the harbor of Keramoti in the prefecture of Kavala. The population of Limenas is approximately 3000. Its residents work in tourism, agriculture, fishing, and marble extraction from the various quarries that exist on the island.
Limenas flourished in the ancient times and that can be easily understood from its many interesting archaeological sites. In the 19th century, it was inhabited by dwellers from the village of Panagia and in the beginings of the 20th century by refugees from Asia Minor and Thrace.
