Grüße aus den Niederlanden! Gut gesungen. Übersetzt in viele Sprachen.

wow holy shit this is next level shit, like damn. what i imagine when i listen to this is you're some Wehrmacht soldier in 1945 that got separated from his company, you walk thru the forest until you finally walk into Berlin once again, your home you came to know and love blown to hell, all the places you loved to go before the war, now reduced to ashen craters in the ground, you helplessly continue to walk around the familiar streets, the captivating beauty of the wonderful city of Berlin, all swept away in one fell swoop. It no longer felt like home. the further down the street you got the further away from reality you drifted, carried away by despair. you reach your street, near the end of the road came the first tear, your house had been completely desecrated. all that remained was the scorched bricks of your shattered will. The once peaceful and joyful little street that teamed of small, orderly houses, the almost majestical beauty you had once saw in this very place through young eyes, the lingering euphoria you thought you would always be there, all gone within in what felt like a moment's notice. though, a couple houses down, one place had remained somewhat in tact; a small local tavern whose name you would never forget, broken and deprived of the last of your hope, you bust your way through the disheveled door, pour you a battered glass of wine and sit in the seat you knew oh so well. a toast to all that is lost.

Yes, a song about loss. Ute Lemper also does a good version of this song.

The original sonģ is a simple love Song of an soldier thinking qbout his love to his girl and what will be in future. This Interpretation in a movie sung by Hanna Schygulla is changing a Note making the Song in direction cheesy. The Brits occupied this song and made it from a simple love song to an soldier war and marching song. They added also a Note making a normal simple girl to an lamp Light girl...so cheesy and so bad. The Nazi answered and made Lili Marleen later more in direction soldier marchingsong from the rythm not from the lyrics.

For me the lamp is more of a metaphor, one of England’s kings said at the start of wwi that the light over Europe had gone out and would only rekindle with peace. I think the lamplight represents more of the home life and peace rather than her being a ‘lamplight girl’ in your words

Okay your opinion...but in the original is nothing of marching soldiers...only the fear that could happen sometimes something.. Lili..is a simple wonderful lovesong... nothing more..

¿Contigo Lili Marleen? ¿Contigo Lili Marleen?
