the show makes you root for Marcello because we saw how in love he was with her even after she married Stefano. I don't know because I can't say for sure (and we will never know), but maybe he wouldn't have treated Lila that way Stefano treated her. Marcello could've been her best option.

@@agenttheater5 yeah no Marcello was in love, but he thought he could BUY her by showering her with gifts, like she was his property. I read the book and rewatched the series with a different outlook in mind, men in Lila's life think they can do whatever they want because they are the 'smarter gender.' The way they let out their anger, fight it out, contradicts their belief. Marcello was wrong in thinking he could win Lila's favor over, with gifts.

io penso che Marcello sia uno dei personaggi meglio costruiti , ma credo che non sarebbe stato giusto se alla fine si fossero messi insieme , perchè lila più che lui in se , odia quello che rappresenta e invece di Stefano amava il cambiamento e una vita migliore . Credo che la scena finale del matrimonio sia stata magistrale , anche se mi rende un po triste , gia che alla fine un pochino li shippavo .

Sì, anch'io penso che Lila non si sarebbe mai potuta mettere con Marcello per il modo di pensare che aveva. Nonostante i tempi lei era molto intelligente e invece di valutare soltanto la possibilità di avere una vita agiata con uno come Marcello (che economicamente stava messo meglio di tutti) pensava anche a al futuro incerto che avrebbe potuto avere, visto che all'inizio Marcello faceva del male alle altre ragazze con suo fratello. Poi nella serie Marcello dimostra che nonostante tutto lui è pazzo di Lila, tanto da fare di tutto pur di conquistarla.. non so se Marcello nutre ancora questo sentimento forte verso lei perché sto ancora finendo di leggere il primo libro, però il suo corteggiamento e la loro ''storia'' mi hanno incuriosita molto.

Even though I think there's a bit of a 'conquer her' side to his mentality in pursuing her and wanting her in the first place, I still sometimes think it's almost a bit like that scene in the '58 Kirk Douglas movie 'Vikings': "You think with a face like this I'd want to marry a girl who'd just jump into bed with me? I want a wife who would fight me, tooth and nail. The first time I take her and the last." Politically and socially problematic way of thinking but I still think that's a side to it.

Lightning Hope Because Marcello and his brother had mistreated the others girls. They were sexist and they were the richest from the neighborhood therefore Lila was scared from their and she rebelled. But from me Marcello was really in love for her despite his ugly nature 😕❤️

Lightning Hope Lila didn’t like him because he's sexist and violent. He did a lot of disgusting stuffs to poor girls like Ada and Lila couldn’t tolerate it... He helped her and her friends when rich boys fought with Rino and Pasquale. I know that it could be beautiful and kind to do that for her... But he did that in a bad way, he was too much violent : he hit and punched rich boys with iron bars. Honestly it was too much and it showed how much he could be dangerous and agressive. Yes, he absolutely loved Lila. But she didn’t because of his pretentiousness and his barbarism. Lila was different compared to the other girls, when she didn’t agree with something you couldn’t change her advice, it was like it and only like it. The other girls perhaps first didn’t agree but they would accept to be married with him because they hadn’t the same spirit as Lila. She was determined, always honest and so much stubborn. I think that Marcello didn’t react intelligently when she threw his engagement ring... He was brutal, it was another proof that showed her how he could be when he was contradicted and when he started to loose patience. Marcello was different with her, that’s true, he was more polite and more “ kind “ ( if I may say) but it was perhaps a “false appearance”. He was maybe like it with Lila because he just wanted to attract and to seduce her. After their wedding, he would be perhaps different because it would be done, he would be perhaps like before, like he was with everybody. So, I understand Lila and I’m ok with her opinion. But it’s quite sad too, because Marcello would be perhaps kind with her in their life together if they were married. Who knows... He would be perhaps a respectful husband, he would do all she would like because he loves her and was quite afraid to her. I don’t know. But I think that Lila chose Stefano because she hadn’t choice. She didn’t want Marcello so she had to find someone else. Stefano was there at that moment and he seemed kind (more than Marcello) and polite. She chose him because she thought that he would be nice with her in the future and kinder than Solara. But she was wrong. Stefano will be awfully unkind and brutal with (if you didn’t read the second book I couldn’t tell more lol). That’s sad because Marcello would be perhaps better than Stefano. But nobody knows, that’s a shame... Sorry if I made mistakes, English isn’t my language, I speak French! I respect you if you have the courage to read all my comment lol. It’s too longggg😂

Sarah Hackin Thank you. I respect your opinion,. I can see that you read the 2 an probably the 4 books.I still don’t read anyone😜.I just know what happen in the series and part of the book 4.After that,I still believe that Marcello was the best option for Lila to have a better life. Because I can see that he really love her, he try to be hard with her but he just can’t do it. Also, I think that Marcello, he really love her more that he think he does. I Believe for what i heard and read the person he choice to marry in the books have the same or similar personality that Lila have in the series. Yes, it’s true that He make a lot of mistakes but ,he it’s not that bad person. Well, it’s not entirely his fault is also the family he have. Anyway, I believe that wherever Marcello did to Lila was not that bad like Stefano did to her. Stefano did a really bad things to Lila in the wedding day and went they were kids. That things was directed to Lila no to others girls. So probably Marcello Solare, was not that bad like Lila Think and was the best choice that she have in series and in the books. Because the other guys they’re not that great especially the 2. He is the worst of them. Marcello it’s much better that him. Well, is want I think. I still need to read the 4 books. Lightning Hope Lightning Hope Hi! In fact, I also prefer Marcello... When I read the book I hoped that Lila would choose him because I liked him... But she didn’t and after reflection I absolutely understood why, I agreed with her. Unfortunately, she chose Stefano who was awful with her when they were young and he’ll be so unkind with her. So it was so stupid from Lila to get married with him. But she thought she was right, he seemed kind and it was her plan to escape to Marcello. From my point of view, she deserved someone better than Marcello and Stefano. But if she had to choose between them, Marcello was the best (even if he was brutal, rude, disrespectful,... perhaps she could change him... Who knows ?). I think she deserved someone like Enzo, who was the kindest boy, he was always kind with her, he defended her when Pasquale said that she was a hooker. He always loved her, even before she was beautiful... I’m sure that Enzo was the perfect choice. But Marcello would be definitely better than Stefano but he wouldn’t be as good as Enzo. Because Marcello is different, more brutal, impolite, violent, sexist, he has a lot of defaults but with Lila he would be maybe a better person. We haven’t proof so we can’t know how he would be in the future... Yeah, you can read the books, they’re so cool but they’re really long! They’re a lot of descriptions but it didn’t disturb me... Happy New Year😘
