Lil Rob on Having Issues Doing Shows in Northern Cali, Being Called Jay-Z of Chicano Rap (Part 6)

Watch the full interview now as a VladTV KZread Member - kzread.infojoin
Part 5: • Lil Rob on His Biggest...
Part 1: • Lil Rob on His San Die...
--------
Lil Rob was recently compared to Chicano hip-hop icon Jay-Z, an accolade he humbly deflected, stating he simply creates his music for his fans. Lil Rob also revealed some of the geographical challenges he encounters as a part of the California music scene. Notably, he shared experiences of hostility when performing in locations out of Southern California, including receiving threats and having bottles thrown at him on stage due to territorial issues. Even with these experiences, Lil Rob insists on maintaining a peace-centric mindset. He also explained he has curbed performances in certain areas due to potential safety issues for him and his fans. Despite these bumps in the road, Lil Rob keeps his focus on sharing his music with audiences, all while working to exemplify unity and good vibes in the industry.

I am from the city of San Jose, California......a city that is considered a Northerner stronghold, but also has one of the largest Southerner communities in California. I am also of Vietnamese descent, and grew up on the East Side where gangs and hoods were prevalent. I always remembered in the 90's seeing Lil Rob's and other Southerner rap CDs at Sam Goody and some other record stores around San Jose and I was always intrigued. I dressed like them due to the era I was growing up in-Nike Cortez, Dickie suits, Pendleton's etc and all of my homies were no different. I always enjoyed the music from the Southerners a bit more than the Northerner music mainly because the Southside music had that OG Barrio, Cholo, Ese vibe to it, whereas the Northerner rap music was heavily produced and had a more "Black" feel to it. If you are from the Bay Area and were active during the 90's and early 2000's, you will understand how the "Bay Area" sound was so distinct and completely different than Southsider music. I'll never forget being in school and not being able to bump any Southsider music (even when I was not entangled in the 13, 14 culture) because the area my school was in was a 14 only area. I never hated on Lil Rob. I was around when he went to Northern California to do his thing and heard all about the ruckus that ensued. The Northerners laughed about it of course, and to be honest, even I was like "Damn, wtf Lil Rob doing up here?!" Some things will never change, and unfortunately, the 13 and 14 war will never ever cease. Their values are so similar, yet their culture is so different.

This man Is a great example for Hip Hop. Notice how he’s humble, made it a point numerous times that he just want to rock out and perform for ALL races and when tested admitted with no shame that he’s been booed, had bottles thrown at him and attempts just for a name and still talk about it all very respectfully, not acting gangster or hard and really just being honest. 👏🏾 👏🏾 More artists should be as transparent, humble and good examples like this man. God bless you Rob! For sure god is going to continue making sure you continue touching the people and spreading a positive message

Here in the Norte we have nothing to hate about Lil’ Rob. He never disrespected us. Me personally, I enjoy his music. I’m into oldies/funk & he knows how to remix them well better than any other Chicano rapper 🔥 this vato denounced his Sur affiliation, his hood affiliation….but still gets hate. Doesn’t make any sense. The Raza beef will never cease. Its always your own people who wanna bring you down. From your geography, music, religion, neighborhood, politics, beliefs, pride etc it will never end 🤦🏻‍♂️
