    I don't know of anyone trying to make a living with New Holland farm equipment any more. We had one neighbor that struggled for many years. When NH refused to perform warranty work on one of his new $300000 tractors he loaded all of the NH crap, took it to the local C-IH dealer and bought about $5,000,000 in C-IH equipment. He has never been happier. Everyone around here runs JD or C-IH.

    Great job. I've run a maxillator accumagrapple for about 6 years on my farm. There is definately a long learning curve but you are doing awesome. You might save some time if while you accumulate you immediately stack on the trailer. I know you said you can't compress the stack this way but you can still compress it when you stack in the barn after taking the chutes out. Just removed from trailer, set on ground, undo grapples, move forward and to the side a bit to compress. Then stack. Just an idea. :). I have two trailers in the field after I bale and can accumulate and stack about 300 bales in several hours.

    glad to see your baler holding up so far......gotta wonder about the logic of hand stacking the "heavy" hay up top :) ....vs swapping out some floor space with lighter bales.... but i have to admit we hand stack our highest quality hay 2/3cutings in the barn loft so who am i to judge

  • @This1LifeWeLive

    @This1LifeWeLive

    You and me both! The floor hay is to sell and the loft hay is to keep. problem is, anything over 14% moisture on the loft floor will mold, so putting all of them on the floor would be nearly all lost. And this was our first try using the grapple to "load up" the bales into the loft . . . so Erik was concerned about floor space ;)

    Viewed 1-30-22 from Illinois........Hey Suz regarding PYO not starting each time you pull switch up. Not familiar with New Holland, but would say most likely is "electric over hydraulic" meaning the PTO electrical system. The yellow knob is a switch connected to an electrical circuit as apposed connected to a mechanical linkage connected to a valve. Hope this helps.

    Couple of comments-- and these are made with all due respect as I know how hard haying is. It looks like your mower leaves the field with some really long grass, like it is not adjusted low enough. Long grass underneath is contributing to your moisture problems. When dew gets on that long grass it makes it harder to dry off. That grapple is junk and has to go. I would not want my bales pushed on the ground all over the field getting all junky underneath. Lastly, I think that trailer is way oversized and that your bales are just too long and heavy. If you have to handle them why not make your life easier with lighter bales? I make 35-40 lb bales and they are easy to throw. Actually for the size of your operation (small) you would be way better off with a kicker and using those nice looking wagons you have.

    The teff probably could ahve been cut shorter, I have it set for the orchard grass which requires a long cutting height. And I agree on the accumulator, but we are looking into other options. We used our bale carts fine, but had no help to stack the hay, and when you are pulling 800 bales off in 1-2 days, how do you get it into a dry barn before the rain hits? Out here in MI even fast food restaurants can't keep people employed . . . good workers are impossible to find. And I can't time baling to take place on the weekend, when erik doesn't have work each time. Erik isn't allowed time off from work, only when things slow down is he able to get out early. So the whole system is based on being able to be run entirely by myself. And no way in heck I can stack 400 bales myself in a day PLUS run the hay equipment AND feed the family (still gotta do that too). As the last of our teen kids left the house, we decided to switch into a more reasonable set-up for our time demands :) I do agree on the lighter bales, especially for anything going into the loft! But our hay customers expect 50lb bales :)
