Around 1958, Jimmy Reed came to Leon's(Lil' Jimmy's)hometown of Baton Rouge. Jimmy Reed couldn't finish the gig, but the promoter knew Leon knew all of his songs, so he brought him in to close out the show. Jimmy Reed's band gave him the nickname, and asked Lil' Jimmy if he could tour with them permanently as a backup musician, but Lil' Jimmy's father said he was too young to tour.

@@BenLevinPiano so he's been living off Jimmy Reed even before Jimmy Reed was a star and famous. That takes some doing.

Jimmy Reed had his first hit in 1957
