I always remember both actors for the parts they play in this particular comedy. It's one of my favourite all time classics. I'm 53 now. When I left school at 16,I went to work in a garage fitting tyres. Bewes came in,in his big car. I didn't know who he was in them days. He was so polite. Lol I didn't get a tip tho.a

In the show Terry was the fun-loving, happy-go-lucky, down-to-earth one while Bob was the more pretentious, stuck-up, snobbish one. Yet in real life it seems to be the exact reverse. How ironic!

I've met both of them.Admittedly very briefly.James Bolam -as far as I could tell -is a reserved ,quiet man. Rodney Bewes- on the other hand - was an absolute prat - a typical "Luvvie". You could see how he could rub Bolam up the wrong way.

Bob and Terry were great characters… Rodney Bewes was a great loss and we will forever be grateful for the laughter he gave us all. For some reason….. James Bolam decided to cut all ties with the show and didn’t want to have anything to do with it. He wouldn’t agree for the shows to be repeated and Cost the rest of the cast…money…..( allegedly)…. It is BOLAM who kept this petty feud going and I for one…. will not forgive him for denying us the chance to see how the lads would look in their older years… Did not even send Rodney a small letter to acknowledge the death of his wife….. I wish BOLAM no harm….but I for one…will not shed a tear when it is HIS time to depart this great earth….. Rodney Bewes…god bless you sir……

I've had a couple of "mates" do similar to me.. One I knew for 30 years the other, 40 years. The guy I was mates with for 40 years, we had some great times. I stuck by him through his divorce, then a seriously bad relationship he had with an alcoholic partner who eventually died.....then his second wife came along and she changed him. I worked hard to get on with her but they were like fly paper and if I got into any debate or disagreement on anything they stuck together like glue and I was then the object of their verbal attacks. He took early retirement (mid 50s) and enjoyed rubbing my face in the fact I still had to work. A few years later he had a stroke which left him partially disabled. When he was in hospital I used to leave home early to go and visit him before I went to work. When he was eventually discharged I still kept regular contact, by phone or visiting his house at least once a week. By now I also had retired. One night I slipped badly at home and broke my leg and it was during this time I began to reflect......where was my "friend"......why no phone call. Then it hit me. For years it had always been me going to his house, always been me making the phone calls, never the other way round. So once I got better I phoned less and limited my visits more. Then three years ago when I was away on holiday he died. His wife had neither texted me or phoned so after a few days of stewing on it I phoned her and immediately her manner was abrupt and hostile. She told me, "well we never heard anything from you, you never phoned". I wanted to say "doesn't your phone make outgoing calls" but couldn't bring myself to say what was in my mind. I wish I had told her now but it was very obvious she neither wanted to see or hear from me again......yet I had known her husband years longer than she ever had!

Met Rodney Bewes once at a talk/signing. Came across as a genuinely genial gent. Can't speak for Bowlam, so won't pass any comments on him, though it is documented that he did block retransmissions of Likely Lads, which not only affected Bewes, but also other members of the cast and crew, and that does on the face of it look quite selfish.

Absolute rubbish. "Whatever Happened To?" has been repeated as much as your average sitcom. Obviously not as often as "Dads Army" or "Only Fools And Horses" but still a respectable amount of times and is STILL being shown. One actor (no matter who they are)can't dictate things like that.
