Hi Gil, I tried this with 80 names and I think I overloaded it. While waiting, I gained 30 lbs and had two birthdays and my cat died of old age.

It was something I discovered through trial and error. Seems that without the box defining the area, the site didn’t know what the area to work with was… 🤷

Glad to hear. I think nesting will be a game change for Lightburn, with more functionality in the area offered in the future! What will you be using nesting to achieve with your laser?

Will it rotate pieces to make them fit better? And can you choose to have the pieces share lines? It looked like with your boxes that they didn't quite touch.

to fix issue of missing inside shapes use export button instead of nest button and than use SVGnest.

Hi Gil, nice video again. I have used svgnest before. Lightburn made it a bit easier by eliminating a few steps (export, start svgnest, delete, close svgnest, import), so its a bit easier to use. I do prefer to go in the svgnest settings and set the space between parts to 1 mm or so. This will off course use more material, but it won't cut the same line twice. You could go in and delete the double cuts , but that would defeat the purpose of less work :) I also find that svgnest sometimes does overlap. I do agree that is can save a lot of work trying to fit your pieces on the workspace, but it does need some tweaking afterwards.

it doesnt look like the edges are in common among pieces, either overlapped or not quite touching. Is that just the display?

Hey Gil..I've been watching your videos for a couple of months after I stumbled across your channel by chance. I've learned so much and so much to learn yet! I want to create a 1 cm square god on a sacrificial board so I can easily line up my work so it's square to the laser (Scuplfun S9). I'm certain this is child's play for you but I've been busting my melon for a while and can't come up with a fool proof system. Would you consider making a video on how to burn a grid onto a sacrificial board? Keep up the. great content!!!

Hey RF... Thanks for reaching out. Let me know if you still need a tutorial on making a grid for your Sculptfun S9, but the real trick would be to attack your laser to the board before you laser on the grid. Get back to me and if you still need a tutorial, I'll see what I can do! Stay safe and keep lasering!

Hello, thank you for the great video. Have an svg that is made up of garden stakes. It has the words of the plant on the stake and lines that help make up the look of the vegetable. When I run it through svgnest it does not bring over the welded letters or the portions that would be engraved, just a straight outline of the part. Any ideas?

SVGnet is interesting but so slow. My test happened to be 3 snowflake objects to be nested in 400x400 it never did complete the task after nearly an hour I gave up. I guess they were just too complex and I'm used to Vcarve Pro which does it to a not-perfect but acceptable level in seconds.

Does it double cut the close edges or just cut one line for 2 pieces?

Depends on how you set it up in SVGNest, I have been able to get it to do one cut line, but standard is a double cut. You can do it, just takes more set up time!

Hi Gil, I'm a long-term subscribed Lightburn user and appreciater. However, I got a Lightburn update notice recently which then required a new payment! Can you comment, please? Is this legit or a scam? I went back to an earlier version. Thanks in advance...

Hi Mike, I can't comment on the email as I have not seen it, but I do know that lightburn update subscriptions do come up from time to time. My experience is a pop up in the software, but that does not mean that Lightburn may have started emailing users as a courtesy. My advice would be to check your sub in Lightburn itself, and if you need to re-subscribe, do so via the app and website. Hope that helps 👍

When you pay for your license you can use Lightburn forever, but you can only upgrade for the first year. After one year, you will have to make another (smaller) payment to be able to use the upgrades for another year.
