Lightbar Highlight: Code 3 MX7000 Relay

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is the lightbar that started it all for me...the very first light in my collection..... the Code 3 MX7000. I found it on Craigslist one day, and drove from Las Vegas to San Diego to get it. It was my very first lightbar purchase, and i mounted it to the roof of my garage- as can be seen here: • My Code 3 MX7000 Lightbar
This bar is was my first foray into relay bars (obviously, since it was my first bar, period). It took me a while to understand the principle, but now I prefer relay bars- even if it requires me to run a couple extra cable. This bar is pretty well loaded.... it has a Code 3 700 flasher on the front, with a 710 flasher on the rear (you can see the distinct 710 "LL-RR-LL-RR-LL-RR-ALL-ALL" flash pattern reflecting on the rear of the bar. In addition to the flashers, the bar features TD's and alleys, amber intersection sweeps, and 4 rotators. The inner rotators are fast, and the outers a slow. I also reversed each HALF of the colored lenses around each rotator- so every rotator is split red/blue between the front and back.
I've been told that this could have been a Seattle PD bar, but I've never had that confirmed. I thought it was interesting that despite it being an "all-light" model (without the speaker grill), they still never populated the center section, and instead lined the relays in that section instead.
I love this bar, not only because it was my first, but because it's got a ton of options, and the MX7000 is general was the best thing that ever came out of 1988. The flash power on these bad boys is second-to-none.

    MX7000s are my favorite! Never gets old (There is a reason they lasted from 1988-2017). Ill be running an all blue one on my POV here soon. I have 3 MX7000s in my collection!

    You are right.... the light output on these bad boys is incomparable! I have 4 in my collection, and they are all very different.... there is this one, which is the most common (except for the relays), then I have the strobe model with Traffic Advisor, the custom All-D-Tech version (The only one with a silver speaker grill), and my Custom-All-Flasher model. They are great bars for sure!

    Lots of filters! I like it. I'm assuming the "204" on the top center dome is the unit number? I've always wanted an MX7000!

  • @AdamsLights

    @AdamsLights

    Yes on the filters!! And although it's hard to see in the video, all of the rotator filters are split, and are reversed on the rear... so what is red on the front, is blue to the rear... and what is blue to the front, is red to the rear. And to make it even MORE messy.... it's a 700-series flasher on the lower front, and a 710 flasher on the lower rear.... so there are two different flash patterns at the same time. To answer your question about the 204.... as far as I know, YES- that was the unit number. I am not 100% sure where this bar came from, although someone once told me that Seattle used to use clear bars with filters, and internal relays.... but I have never been able to confirm that. You definitely need to get yourself an MX. Not only is their light output second-to-none.... they are GREAT project bars because they are module, SUPER easy to work on, and you can cram a lot of stuff in there.

    @@AdamsLights just started researching these builds. I bought a wrecker with a code 3 mx7000 attached. It has all clear domes and looks to have all LEDs for the front side and rear. Found a type R sticker but not if it's lights or? 1set has red filters with a strobe led attatched. Each section has 5 of this type of lights. Whole bar has 4 rotating assemblies. Each section has a diamond reflector in the center. The two outside rotating lights have what looks like Amber turn signal bulbs in them. Looks cobbled to me. Center section have two rotating lights with high intensity bulbs? Starting form scratch and havnt located the controller just yet. I'll be looking for some advice or help locating some parts for it. Another lightbar hobbist is now aboard.

    Actually, when I got the bar, the center was totally empty. Those relays take up so much space, that nothing else can fit. I happened to have a spare mirror laying around, so I through it in there.... it's essentially just sitting on top of the relays :). Good thing my bar doesn't move! Thanks for watching!

    I'm new to light bars. I just bought a Code 3, 360 at a yard sale that has red, white and blue plastic covers instead of clear like the one in this video. Looks to be complete with a wire harness and a bunch of wires. I don't know how to hook it up to see it light up. I'm new, any help would be appreciated from you guys that know this stuff. Thanks, Steve

    1. Remember it's 12v, so use a car battery. 2. Find the large black wire, and connect it to the negative terminal on the battery. 3. While leaving the black wire connected, start touching the other wires to the Positive terminal on the battery one at a time, and take note of what each color does. Each one will activate a different function of the bar. Good Luck!

When I did them one at a time, The four little rectangle amber lights flashed. When I did them all together they just stayed on. I don't understand that.
