Light Bio Bioluminescent Petunias

Genetically modified from actual organisms with natural bioluminescence, these petunias are now commercially available to the public and I got to be one of the first to get my hands on a little pot of my own.

Subscriber Number 7 here. Thank you for this video. I still want one to put into TC, for personal use only. I need about 100 of these to dimmly light up my back yard. I remember finding firefox fungi while at boyscout camp, always wanted some of my own.

2 weeks in, they are glowing significantly brighter for me - especially new flowers. I can see them glow even in dim light at night without letting my eyes adjust. I think they're absolutely incredible!

@AdamGrantDotInfo They're under a 100W full spectrum led grow light since my apartment gets no direct sunlight. I put them in bigger pots with miracle grow soil which really helped!

@@gabelastnamechannel8718we found they thrive under artificial lights. We had one near our balcony and one under an aero garden light, after fertilizing and keeping constantly moist they are doing alright. It's weird though one (the heartier with less petals) glows more in the stems and the one with more flowers glowed brighter on the petals

Thank you for your review. I think I will save my money. Every review I’ve seen shows a couple sparse leaves lighting up. It looks nothing like the advertisements. Thank you for saving me $30 times three or four

True. It has to be in a very dark area and with your eyes adjusted.

Hold off for Generation Two on these would be my advice. I don't regret the purchase, per se, but I'd call them unimpressive. The glow is very dim.

Yeah, in the advertisements I think they used backlighting to take pictures. I read in a gardening magazine that it also depends on how many hours of direct sunlight the plant gets.

@@dm5129 Well, I can tell you that plant #1 is in 10 hours of direct sunlight, plant #2 is in 9 hours, and neither is doing much. Both are blooming beautifully but glow? Not really visible over skyglow from the city. Completely disappointing.

Excellent job on your video. I tried to video them but couldn’t catch the light on the video. You must have much better equipment than I have.

I just got mine delivered today. I purchased it as a gift for my mom. Hopefully once it gets 6 hrs of direct sunlight it will glow better. I have heard that ripe banana peels might help increase the glow but i am not a botanist. Thanks for the video. But can you create an video with an update on how the plant is doing?

That almost sounds like they're potassium hogs, which is fine; I have plenty of potassium sulfate on-hand.

I made a video on these too! Yours is much better!! We had better luck when put under artificial light, but we're in the PNW. You got any grow tips?

Oh nice. Well yours are probably doing better. I put them outside in the ground. Lots of flowers, not a lot of leaf growth so I'm not sure if they are healthy or just going out with a bang.

So far, disappointing would be the watchword in my case with two petunias. I've planted them outside at this point, so we'll see as the season goes on, and I'm planning on feeding fairly heavily and I've given them full sun (and areas that are unquestionably 8 hours or better a day).

I'm gonna propagate it anyways, lol. It's not a crime if the cops don't know. I wonder if the genetics would carry on if I cross pollinated it.
