I kept coming back to this video when ever i felt like i lost my way. There is a certain comfort that i get while watching, listening to this video

I'm an aspiring film maker and cinematographer - having doubts about my learning process and technique - until I saw this film - wow - what an inspiration!

This video made me realize that this I what I wanna do, always wanted to do, what my heart wants.

+Tyler Durden Great, great phrase, i wish i would agree in 100%, i really do, but it will be hypocritical from my side, shoot few shots on 35mm or Alexa, do the same with your iphone... still love this phrase and love this movie, (now late to work, damn it :)

+FloydPink23 Camera is the one component of the film, actors, script, directing, music, etc. Downgrade one of them and "Godfather" will be not the same, why we so preciosly talking about great Acting/Script.... and so easily dissmissing the Camera importance? I remember my self watching "Public Enemies" (Dante Spinotti) the look of some of scenes kicked me out of the movie, i did check the IMDB and read about the making - they had a great idea to use Sony EX-1, in the gangster movie!!! Comparing Deadpool and Godfather is blasphemy - you should be banned from KZread for life :D ;)

@@lamakaha1 You're not really getting it. The point is that with both you have to do different things in order to get amazing results. The kind of results that make you forget on which kind of camera it was shot, because there is something much more interesting going on on screen that distracts you from that.

@@lamakaha1 At the level they are talking about, no one uses poor cameras, all the cameras are great! Now lenses are a different matter THEY DO COUNT!!!

What an amazing honor made to those masters of cinematography whom make us dream again and again over the years. I love this.

What a great inspirational piece and not just for filmmakers but, for anyone who is devoted to the love of their work no matter what it is.

Absolutely brilliant. How I feel about it is ultimately this, that we as humans are all storytellers and as a DP you have to find your own unique way/style of visualizing stories and presenting them to the audience. We all see the world and everything in it differently, uniquely from one another and it would be a shame to try to copy someone else's identity of work when yours could be just as great if not greater. As a starting DP, I would recommend not to take someone else's story/script to film, but rather have you write a few shorts yourself and shoot the story that was manufactured/visualized put together if you will in your mind through your own eyes. If you do this you will find your unique look/style. Because someone else's story was created in their mind by the way they visualized the story and the way they put the scenes together through their eyes in their mind. Then when you get much and much years of practice you will able to shoot much more confidently and know your uniqueness as a DP. Two things will happen at that point. One is you will start to write yourself and produce your own stories, and two writers will come to you because they know your style and they see their story shot with your style as successful. BTW forgive me for my poor English. I Hop you all got my point.

This is a fantastic peice of work for anyone and any level of experience. Fantastic Thank you for creating!

One of my favorite cinematographers is Emmanuel Lubeski (Gravity, Avatar, The Revanant, etc). His style just feels so smooth and...organic. It feels like you're gliding through the scene.

Elena Fedeli - I had a look at Wikipedia, IMDb and your Channel. According to Wikipedia and IMDb ( m.imdb.com/name/nm2423275/filmotype?ref_=m_nm_flmg ) Mr. Bloom _is_ a DP, Producer and Director (and has other related experience). While he is not above all others he seems not as bad as some comments suggest, can you summarize people's dislike for him? Thanks for your reply.

Are we really debating whether or not B. is one among the "greatest cinematographers" as the title states? Is the adjective I doubted not the work itself. Although is not far from the truth to say that to great public B. is certainly better known for testing gears, making tutorials and selling expensive workshop worldwide than for his feature films as cinematographer. Summarizing more: he is so related to goods/merchandising that he produced some sort of "miracle blades" effect to your video.

Both are valuable. This is a good tl;dr for Visions, but anyone serious about cinematography needs to make that their next watch, for sure.

The music is way to high in comparison to the dialogue.

I was hoping this could be inspirational for people, the Interviewees tell everyone to go forth and create. To use light and composition to tell part of the Story, along with the Story itself. Amazing docu, i would just want to add one advice for people who want to learn cinematographies, and that is, to us the pause button as much as possible when you look to some one else work so you can analyse every frame they make, to see the lines they use and the reason why a shot was token. Take your time to understand cinematographies and look throe your own eyes.

***** You can learn indeed a lot from movie's when you turn off the audio, so you don't get distracted. Of course the combination from audio and video make's the sensation we want to create and let people experience with our movies or documentaries, but before people master that, they need to understand how those two function separately. I think you can ask all the directors from Hollywood, and they will all say that they learned the most from the soundless old black and white movies, those setted the standard for today's cinematographic.

Is there a list of all the films mentioned/showed in this documentary? I want to write them down and watch them all. Thanks!

There are some awesome cinematographers there and some that really don't belong under a heading 'Greatest Cinematographers of the World, Interviewed' and where are Storaro, Gordon Willis, Conrad Hall, Sven Nykvist etc. Really bad title - something like ' ASC Cinematographers that we could round up' - some significant some not' would be accurate.

There are certainly a lot of inspirational cinematographers included in this collection that rightfully deserve to be heralded under the banner 'Greatest Cinematographers', however there is one included that seems a bit of a stretch. Other than him, very inspiring piece, congrats!

LowLightVideos yes it's beautiful. Very moving, inspiring. It's definitely a must see for all emerging film makers, imho. I'm trying to break through self doubt as a creative artist. I've been studying and practicing for over ten years at university and in the field. However your film ought to be included on the study program! I'll pass it on! Big thx it's brilliant! 🤠🙌🎥✨✨✨

What's the piano song/piece at the start of the video? I love it, but shazam won't pick it up lol. I'm not a DP or aspiring to be one, but I love this documentary. I think I've watched it four times - i find it so inspiring. People whinging about Philip Bloom should also chill out - just because he isn't an arty DP shooting lots of features doesn't mean he has nothing to say. He's a lovely guy, makes great videos and helps plenty of people improve their photography and work. His videos help hobbyists and people who want careers with photography. It's not a contest of who has the sharpest eye and the largest lens, come on people!

Note all these Cinematographers choose those who shot FILM as their favorite or their most influential cinematographer and not those who shoot RAW. Shooting RAW removes the cinematographer from the creative process, because they don’t even need to know how to expose an image. All the creative work will be done with PS

+Mon Tage You're simply incorrect. The art of cinematography is not exposing an image. Exposure is the most basic technical aspect of cinematography. The digital medium provides affordable access to cinematography and filmmaking for independent artists which is something that should be celebrated, not criticised. The creative process still remains. You still add, cut, modify the light, position the camera and choose the lens. It's just a different medium.

They need to put Vincent Leforet in the list.

How amazing. But I do have a question. What's this video concerning people before the 1920s? No disrespect whatsoever oh, but I did not see anyone other than Caucasians that were given Awards or were nominated. Was African Americans available to the film world at this era of time? Just a simple question?🙋🏾

Bradford Young is the first African American Cinematographer to be nominated (in 2017) - prior to the creation of this video.
