i was surprised at how polite and kind the interviewers are with the girls. they seem to be very respectful and grateful to be allowed to see and share lifestyles of gothic lolita! about ten years have passed since this small documentary was made, so i hope that every featured girl lives her dream now. i hope that Manamu finally got her passport, Aran is a popular artist now and Hiyoko (or Hiiko? there are two versions of the spelling of her name in subtitles) and her mother fulfilled their dream of opening a clothing store. and if they didn't, i hope that they are happy, no matter what they are doing now. this documentary shot me right in the heart, so i'm crying. it was wonderful to see and enjoy so many unique dresses, artworks and locations. Yhmar21hEiro, many thanks for uploading this video!

This video is so great! I wish there were more intensive fashion "worlds" here in the US aside from Hot Topic and urban wear... It's so much harder here to wear clothing that you like rather than what is appropriate for work and jeans and a t-shirt otherwise. Makes me think about this stuff around Halloween!
@iforgotmyusername11

From what I know Japan is even more conservative than the US and if anything, it'd be "harder" to wear alt fashion there. The reason for the birth of such fashion there are probs the overbearing cultural norms.
@petravonsakray

Lolita exists in the U.S. too. I mean, I literally am an American lifestyle Lolita who has learned to read, write, and speak Japanese and been to Japan twice. I own 18 coords and counting, and thats not cheap. My atepie coat alone is 350 dollars and that took dedication to get. There are communities in most major U.S. cities, and I have friends across the country, thousands of miles apart from each other, as well as in Japan and Europe, so yea, it's no longer a Japan only thing, even if it started in and is still heavily rooted in Japan (tho in the past 10 years we now have American and European indie brands, and China now rivals Japan in many ways for production and importance)
@midsummermuse
4 ай бұрын
@@petravonsakray Yeah, the number of unique styles/aesthetics has exploded in the last few years. It's great that there are so many welcoming communities for Lolita and other less common fashion types now, regardless of where you live, and I was not the most informed 12 years ago when I added this comment. It's really cool that you have a whole wardrobe of Lolita pieces--I know they aren't cheap!! I've been into clown core recently, but I find it hard to stick to just one style/aesthetic in my closet.

I know the feeling. I live in a small, closed-minded, racist town. I get made fun of a lot because of how I dress, how I'm learning the Japanese language and culture, and how I listen to foreign music. But I still be myself and do what I want. As Dr. Seuss says, "People who matter don't mind, and people who mind don't matter." I wear a large variety of Lolita fashions, and that makes me happy. Wearing a T-shirt and jeans everyday doesn't. I stick with what makes me happy.

It's his own choice, and part of his image. Lots of people would be shocked and sad if he was to suddenly change it, since it's been a part of who we know him as for so long. Just because you personally don't like it doesn't mean there aren't people who do you know. Besides, Mana is not, and has never been a singer. He's (currently) a guitarist. I love Hiyoko’s and Arans art so much I wish there was some information about them there art is so beautiful and cool I hope they become artist and fashion designers ❤
Somehow this video made me happy... I really don't know why.
Although I've heard that most lolita shops had shut down even before covid-19, at least lolita can continue through the internet.

For real?! Which ones? That’s sad news
Mana Sama is a beast! All he has to do is wave his hand in a regal fashion, and Beni automatically talks.

From what I know Japan is even more conservative than the US and if anything, it'd be "harder" to wear alt fashion there. The reason for the birth of such fashion there are probs the overbearing cultural norms.

I watch this every few months because it really fills me with wonder. *_* I think I started to imitate these girls a little.
Does anyone know the name of that antique doll shop and whether it still exists? It looks amazing

Wow! Such great drawings :D and style!
I know that sometimes it make's Mana look a little egotistical, but I kinda like that he dosn't really speak in public, you get most people that do so I like that it's a little different, also I really like looking at the girls that talk for him, they wear really nice outfits and their voices are nice too.
うわぁ、旧マルイワンじゃん…! クソ懐かしくて涙出てくるわ…w
Awesome,it inspired me to make my own Gothic Lolita clothes. :)
Hiyoko can draw really well! I'd love to run across her online gallery somewhere :D
な、懐かしい。生で番組見てました。また見れて良かったです。
I think I have a girl-crush on Hiyoko and Manamu~ They are both so cute in their own lolita styles!
これ見たかった回だ! これでゴスロリ大好きになりました この時のお嬢様は今どうしてるんだろうか…
Those girls are very talented at their art. Love it.
You should check out the Gothic Lolita Bible magazine. They provide some sewing patterns, but remember large sizes are not the same as in America or England, they are way smaller. If I remember correctly a large is like a size 10 in the US. But you can always grade the patterns large or small.
All these girls are so sweet! I wish I knew what they were doing now 🥺
Can someone please tell me in what year was this filmed? すみません、動画には何年前ですか
This documentary made me so happy ❤ hope this girls realized their dreams
Mana is the last living piece of art.
That's probably the shortest interview I have ever seen (I did watch for mainly Mana afterall). But do people still live in Japan like that? I'd love to go shopping there

Those girls do what they love, I respect them. They are so cool :) Even Mana's hand movements are awesome lol
You're a beautiful person for continuing to be yourself. :-)
thats amazing how you make your clothes ^-^ im still learning nd havent made anything good at all >. i love looking like a lolita too x3 i think the dresses are really cute
god i love this! :D I want more videos! xD
The interviewer lady is BENI! I didn't even realize. Shes my favorite singer. >
Mana's such an enigma....I couldn't help but giggle at the whole not talking thing, but it's cool!! He's very graceful. Plus I want his gloves XD And...is it just me, or does he look a little bit like Jareth from Labyrinth? (In the most wonderful of ways....)
Which year was this filmed??
So sad. The video is not available in the United States. Anyone have a mirror link for this?

Message from mana sama to girls who love gothic and lolita: this style is not influenced by fashion i hope it's your style, your way of life no matter what anyone tells you.i want you to love this world for all your life.
great video. I enjoyed watching it
Mana sama!!!*_* ahhh hes so awesome!!!
If anybody is watching the anime "Another" the doll museum at 4:28 is almost a dead on replica, even showing of the 2 conjoined dolls at 4:42 no less. Very interesting!
Yes, their still popular. It's also gaining popularity internationally.
魔名夢さん懐かしい! そして金髪の甘ロリの子の絵が本当素敵💓
the "lovvvviiing youuu" in the background was just amazing hahaha
Mana was at Sakura Con last year. I was so excited I just about swallowed my tongue.
i loved it that at 8:28 No Pains No Gains started as a background song hahahaa! :))
love the clothing im amazed at some of them the ones tht make their own is awsme now i wld like to make some
How old is the interview?
I know the feeling. I live in a small, closed-minded, racist town. I get made fun of a lot because of how I dress, how I'm learning the Japanese language and culture, and how I listen to foreign music. But I still be myself and do what I want. As Dr. Seuss says, "People who matter don't mind, and people who mind don't matter." I wear a large variety of Lolita fashions, and that makes me happy. Wearing a T-shirt and jeans everyday doesn't. I stick with what makes me happy.

Idk if you’ll ever see this reply on a comment from 11 years ago but I’m curious about how your style has developed, are you still into lolita?
Japan is an interesting country, I love the old and new culture at the same time, and it inspire me a lot =)
can somebody list the songs featured in this video ? merci in advance ! ^_^
I would really love to know what some of these lolita's are up to now!! I really hope the artists found their footing in their work!
Anyone know where I can see Hiyoko’s artwork?
Interesting
i was surprised to find out all of these girls are super talented!
In fact, he lives in a "kinda normal house" but inside is like a chaos of creation (music, designs, inspiracion of gothic themes, etc) I think his aura makes all the job...the mistery and all..
Does anyone know any names of the stores/brands of goth loli shops in Shinjuku? They showed quite a few in this video.

Moi Meme Moitie, Atelier Pierrot, Atelier Boz, Black Peace Now/Sheglit, some of Angelic Pretty and BTSSB's stuff
HELP what is the song playing when we go take a look into Hiiko’s life?!?
@XTheWickedShadowX It depends on what their exact style is. The style is known as "gothic lolita", yes, but there are many lolitas. Some are sweet lolitas, others are white lolitas or black lolitas, gothic lolitas, classic lolitas and so on. It depends on the person how he/she would want to be.
I can't wait to see Mana in april. Yay!
ah, the days when it was cool to like kokusyoku sumire. you don't really seem to hear about them anymore.
Mana-sama is like a living doll * w * oh and also I want Hiiko and her mom to make me a loli dress
LMAO AT NOT SPEAKING IN PUBLIC XD
Is the guy interviewing named Sawamura Ikki?
Thank youuuu I fell in LOVE with Mana ^^.
He's also played drums, keyboard and bass before, but he's never been a singer.
These girls are cute AND talented!
They meant that she started drawing 10 years ago.
Interesting! Change my point of view about Lolita
The good thing is that earlier I was planning on donating this 100 year old doll I have and since I didn't I get to keep it :)
Does anyone know where hiyoko is now?
I'm in love with the antique doll
the sweet Lolita style [the pink dresses]are so so cute

Now I really want to go to Japan!! :D
