I'm 77 and love the old movies. They're great. But so many new ones are brilliant, so I feel a bit sorry for you You clearly know little to nothing of the life destroying "crap":that went on behind those "classy":screens. Next time you watch an old B&W film, write down the names of the actors. Take special note of the women who were literally owned by the studios. Google those women's names. Links will lead you to biographies that, years after the fact(s). tell the whole story , warts, "crap" and all. I suggest you begin with the life of Judy Garland. Then you might want to dip into the life of Hattie McDaniel who won an Oscar for her performance as Mammy in GWTW but wasn't allowed inside to accept the treasured little statue. Speaking of GWTW, maybe take a look at the life of Vivien Leigh . Mr. Weinstein, whose company is behind so many gorgeous "classy" films now sits in a "crappy "prison thanks to women who took a lot of "crap" before finding the courage to tell the truth about the classy Mr. Weinstein Watch the beloved films of the 40's and '50's and enjoy every one if them, but please don't conflate tofm with the of those times. You all sound like the sort of Americans who are gladly willing to take the country back to those "moral" Golden Days. I would rather hear a cascade of swear words, and what you call immorality than to drip with nostalgia through a Vaseline smeared lens over those studio controlled times that were anything but golden.

The women in the film are so elegant and beautifully dressed. It is refreshing to see such graceful femininity. 💯🤩

I just love William Powell. What a man and what an actor.

Such a beautiful movie, family moral values and warm heart comedy. ❤

This is one of the most aesthetically pleasing movies and one of the reasons I love it so much. It’s also a movie that features “girl math” thanks to Mrs. Day😂

I love this kind of movies that contain simplicity, depth of feelings and credibility of events, and are not similar to the films of this miserable time ❤️😘

Stood the test of time? This was written by Julian Fellows of Downton Abbey, and Harvey Weinstein, more recently of prison for serial sexual abuse. This isn't a Frank Capra film.🙄

so lovely, so funny! i love all the children (especially John, Whitney and Harlan), this family will be in heaven for sure!

Enjoyed this film immensely, found it funny and very entertaining. It's got a very fine cast and is very well acted.

Movies, novels, music and all kinds of art reflect the society. Ain’t no use to try to live in the past: no one but Gogol will describe 19th century’s Russia (Dead souls). Curtiz was Hungarian but he found a good way to illustrate a NY family life. David Lean gave us a masterpiece with the happy breed.

I can (and do) watch this movie over and again! I think my record is an entire weekend, when i was so sick i couldn't even get up, i just felt so much comforting by watching this movie over and over for those 2-3 days.

Un clásico del cine , maravillosa !!! ❤película que nos traslada a otra época donde había respeto , elegancia y modestia al vestir . Un hogar bien fundamentado como Dios quiere que sea . Con mucho amor , respeto , solidaridad , acogimiento etc. Tristemente el mundo se ha conducido de la peor forma ahora ni los niños tienen respeto por sus Padres ni por sus mayores. Son muy pocos los que guardan todo esto contruido en bases firmes con la gracia de Dios y en la primera escuela que es la casa . Ojalá puedas seguir subiendo clásicos como ésta joya . Miles de bendiciones saludos desde Costa Rica 🇨🇷

Sólo un apunte. Los protagonistas son William Powell e Irene Dunne. Liz Taylor tiene un papel muy secundario. No es justo que el éxito de esta película no se le reconozca a Irene Dunne, que hizo un papel superlativamente bueno. Fue una grandísima actriz.

Así es, solo la ponen porque al final fué más famosa, pero la gran protagonista es Irene Dunne, hace una esposa increíble!

Me encantó la película, que hermosa señora, que lindo los hijos muy obedientes y respetuosos y el papá se impone es algo importante que aunque se la pasa trabajando su presencia impone respeto.

In Europa gab es zu dieser Zeit weder Kinos noch sonst etwas. Es war alles zerstört.

Me encantó, dirección, tema, actuaciones, vestuario, musicalización, es lindo ver, aunque sea solamente en una película antigua los valores que ahora están distorsionados o en algunos hogares, ya perdidos. No dejemos que la corrupción y vulgaridad que muchos tratan de ver como natural o "de actualidad" contagie a la familia y corrompa el ambiente de amor y respeto en nuestros hogares. From the very first time I saw her in Jane Eyre as Jane's doomed friend....OMG those eyes, that face. I think it was Roddy McDowall who said to Elizabeth Taylor, "I don't know if you realize just what an exquisite creature you are.." But of course her beauty was only a small part of the story. Later she showed guts, courage, amazing personal style, star caliber acting ability, and decades on....became a force for good in the AIDS crisis...What an actress. What a beauty. What a woman. RIP gawgeous....

Excelente película…. Me encanto el diseño de la casa…y su mobiliario..y por supuestos que actores…. Son estupendos.

Que linda história,uma mulher docemente esperta,que gracinha a educação dessas crianças.e ainda dizem que naquela época não trabalhavam fora ,imagina cuidar dos filhos,da casa,dos funcionários e ainda o marido reclamão 😅as mulheres praticamente não tinham vida própria,eram umas heroínas. Só não tinham respeito pelos empregadas que eram tratadas de forma desumana, não muito diferente de hoje, mas pelo menos temos leis trabalhistas. Cada época com suas vantagens e desvantagens, mas pode acreditar, nesses tempos só era bom para os ricos.

Muy de acuerdo con usted. Es una película bella. Las actuaciones son de lo mejor. Los diálogos son entretenidos, hilarantes. No soy experto en esa época (quisiera leer todas las novelas de Edith Wharton para conocer mejor ese tiempo y a esas gentes), pero creo que la película representa bien esos años, nos transporta en el tiempo.

@@mirandaduran1932 a mi no me pareció autoritario el hombre .sabía poner orden en la casa,era divertido, y no le tenían temor .al final, acepto muchas actitudes de su familia, y los amaba .hoy, ya no hay caballeros, ni mujeres habilidosas ni inteligentes . Ni siquiera aman a sus maridos, ni a sus hijos .nadie se respeta.

Gostei demais de ver esse filme! Um tempo da inocência, dos casamentos duradouros e que a mulher vivia para o lar Cristão, com filhos educados. Hoje só existe porcarias e dize são filmes. Não vejo um só time atual. Gratidão.

Me encanta ver películas de otra época, me maravilla la ropa de las señoras, la casa, el lujo y las costumbres. Se aprende mucho y además es muy entretenida y relajante. Nada que ver con las películas agresivas de hoy día que no veo por eso por su violencia y mal gusto

Hay violencia, quizas porque esta normalizado la violencia hacia la mujer, no lo ves y no le damos importancia. La mayoria de estas películas emponderan a las mujeres.

Mi papá nació en 1917, mi mamá, en 1920. Yo nací en 1949. Esta pelicula muestra como las mujeres manipulaban a los varones, tan estrictos, siempre teniendo razón. Me recuerdan a mis padres. Ese era el modelo de mujer que mi mamá quiso para mí. Pero cuando yo tenía 10 años, papá murió, y resultó que así ella se enteró que no necesitaba esas artimañas, para enfrentar la vida con dos hijos. El ejemplo de mi madre viuda, tiró por la borda esa caricatura de mujer. Cuando comencé a trabajar, con 17 años, me dí cuenta que la independencia es ganarse el sustento. En casa, tanto mi hermano como yo, aportabamos el 50% del sueldo. Mi mamá su sueldo completo mas la pensión de viuda. Y por muy buen sueldo que ganara mi pareja o marido, nunca dejé de trabajar. Las peliculas de hoy día, muestran la realidad que en otros tiempos se tapaban. Si una mujer era golpeada por el marido, acosada laboralmente, violada, siempre era porque ella lo provocaba. Y se mantenía en absoluto secreto. Los hijos no eran respetuosos, teníamos miedo. La paliza, el cachetazo, el tirón de orejas, era la respuesta a todo aquello que era mal visto por los adultos. ¿Recuerda que en aquellos años, no se veían niños Down, discapacitados? Los ocultaban, todo era hipocresía. Ser homosexual era tan grave, que se casaban para las apariencias. Lo lamento, pero yo prefiero estos tiempos, donde hasta en las publicidades puedo ver a una joven Down, en publicidades.

This is one very good movie, thank you so very much from Romania 🇷🇴, Cult Cinema Classics. And I...I mean, we also appreciate subtitling a lot of your gems into Romanian. Your extra effort is highly apprecisted in my country. I wanted to watch s scene to see once again Elizabeth Taylor's amethyst eyes, but instead I was given a very inteligent, besutifully played, ageless movie. I loved it, thank you again. 🇷🇴 ❤️ CCC.
