Life on the Verge - The life of a New Age Traveller
RIP Bruce 2019
Fairytale lifestyle or self inflicted poverty; Does life in a wagon live up to the dream?
Bruce is not quite your average senior citizen, at the age of 65 he retired from a life-long career down the Yorkshire coal mines but instead of settling down in a retirement home he dreamt of a life on the open roads: one of freedom, romanticism and beauty but also of hardship and poverty.
Life on the Verge will take us on a journey through an account of Bruce's experiences learning to live without a permanent home.

That level of simplicity and freedom is something I dream of.
My dad lived like this with other travellers in ireland in the 80s/90s. Hope to do it myself soon. Start a new generation

Sadly no. He passed away 16.04.21 due to accident with his horse & cart. I was with him, it wasn’t our fault.
Happy people not causing any harm
I'm living a similar lifestyle, with three dogs, six goats and a bull calf that I am training to become my 'horse'. Like Manny, I just wish that I'd done it sooner.

'The System' doesn't like it though, and does everything it can to make your life as difficult as possible. They want you in bricks and mortar, paying bills, buying crap you neither need nor want and slaving away at a job you hate your entire adult life.

The system wants you paying taxes, fines, fees, services. This does not work for the system. How are they going to keep tabs on your hide.

@@clawhammer704 that’s exactly it you hit the nail on the head they are petrified that more folks would lead this life just look at how they hammered all the New Age travellers and gypsy and Irish travelers throughout the 90’s . Thing is we ain’t designed to live in a concrete box . Good luck to anyone still doing this free and happy

stick with it bruce, you're with yhe best of folks fella.
Seeing all these "youngsters" & "hippies" doing this, showing off like "look at me" like this is very common and normal for gypsies and older folk enjoying life when in pension. This is genuine!
great film keep it up
Oh how I envy you, did love to do it ,already pretty much live of the land with the help of 2 good lurchers ,catapult, airrifle an I love the countryside, but I could never afford a wagon or to build one or a horse ,,,I'm green with envy ,your blessed.happydays all the very best.
Short and Sweet!
Much less stress.
Bless you all xxx
Love it♥️
I need more than 3 minutes... 😫
Nice, I envy him being able to be out on the road, free to travel and come and go as he pleases. Retirement I will probably head out myself since money won't be a problem.
Come to Silverton Oregon I'm the united States. Mt angel Oregon is also close by and perfect for your lifestyle. Cheers mate!

Hi, they're in the credits and the music was cleared during production but thanks for highlighting for everyone!
Why not eh love to go back to it if I could was single then got four kids now don't know if I could afford it.
I wish I had a trust fund.
I admire anyone who can handle living like this. I had a good acquaintance who lived off-grid in some woodlands he'd managed to buy. Far from being idyllic it certainly was, and this guy spent his entire day trying to survive, gathering wood for his caravan's stove and forever having to go out for water etc. It looks good but rather than free you encased you in another type of cage.

Cities, counties an states do not like this lifestyle as they pay no taxes to support all the services like police and streetlights. if the mobile home, car camping etc lifestyle show up in an area you will see the city/county pass laws against it. We have a lot of people living on the streets now in the USA and the laws are being passed against them.

Your born into this world but you are not allowed to put your head in the dirt & sleep like a deer does? Makes no sense to me. Just one fighter jet in the sky cost the UK tax payer £90,000 per hour, & they say they cannot feed the poor. Ha yea right.
Travelling blind must be a bit of a challenge. Think I’d prefer keeping my eyes open tbh

Folk talk about the freedom , but the man has had two strokes since he began travelling, so there must be a fair bit of stress in his lifestyle.
