Yeah, it hit me hard when they started talking about the suicide rate in Japan and how restricted they were.

I think you mean it's genuine, and it feels real, like he's not doing with ulterior motive. Cause for me, I don't think someone can be too nice, and usually there's an uneasy thing because it's not genuine

What I appreciate about Terrace House is the little daily life of another culture. I'm third generation Japanese American my family cultural standpoints are from decades ago. So it's fun to watch with my family about how different generations act. Aloha State is my favourite season so glad to see Eden Kai on the program!

He's such a sweet guy. Loved his appearances on the Tokyo season too

Terrace House is popular not because it's "Japanese culture". Terrace House is popular because it is entirely mundane, and mundane is extremely relatable. We get up, go to work/school, come home, figure out what to eat for dinner, kill time, go to bed, and repeat, just all the six housemates do. When we see a housemate over-analyze an interaction with a housemate, or struggle with work or school, or struggle with the "does she?" or "does she not?", we empathize completely because we all go through the same things. The show - for the most part - is bland, and bland we understand. It's just shot and edited very elegantly and the soundtrack is really chic. On the flipside, Western reality TV shows are edited to emphasize the aggressive hyper-sexual and violent plots. We can't keep our eyes off of it, just like we can't avoid slowing down to see a car accident on the freeway.

He's a very likeable person. A little reserved (I believe that was the word Ryan was looking for?) but very genuine and sweet. And talented.

Going to eat catfish while watching this. Terrace House heads know that reference. Also Aloha State was four years ago. It's okay to spoil.

I like Terrace House because these are passionate, competitive, smart people on the show. Eden is a really bright talented guy and what made it sad was no one really got that on the show. The girls did not look past his super cute face and it was their loss.

White woman in Canada here! Found out about the show from a friend from Japan. She and her Canadian husband got me watching it in the summer. I love watching the conversations about goals and dreams. It’s so different than US shows, which are largely terrible. And I love the commentators, especially Tokui 🥰 It’s been good to understand more about Japanese culture too. Yusuke, you will find your person! Don’t settle for anyone who isn’t totally in love with you. You have so much to offer! Thank you for your incredible music!! 💜

Aaah I loved him on the show, and was so happy he popped up again in this season. I still feel bad for him though, with his unsuccessfulness with girls😅. He seems like such a good person. (hi from a terrace house fan from The Netherlands)

i’m happy for eden’s personal growth. his presence on TH was so refreshing and i was rooting for him as far as being himself in the house. hoping he’s able to better express himself more with time. it seems like he’s trying to be a crowd pleaser.. even with music. express yourself more! even the negative feelings of disappointment and rejection! do music for yourself and not just for other people’s happiness too.

i love fireworks too, i would go alone anytime. just sucks that you had to be filmed. wouldve went with you. i just missed one yesterday. actually i heard it from home, and often times when i hear fireworks from home i get dressed and run out to see it but a friend who didnt like fireworks was with me so i didnt, and i regretted it. its painful to hear fireworks close by without going 😂😅 i'm commenting as im listening btw lol *

I’ve been watching Korean & Chinese dramas, historical, comedy, doctor, food, thriller, fantasy all of it. Now even Reality shows for the past 4 years. I’m addicted. I barely watch American TV anymore.

How can people badmouth him ? He is so pure, nice, friendly, sweet, smart and cute. I mean... Every time I see him on screen I want to cheer him up and reassure him, encourage him about his work. He deserves kindness and happiness.

We’ve watched all the Netflix episodes and LOVE Kai. We are Chinese Americans (born and raised) in our 40s and 50s from Houston, Texas and we love watching the show -they could be our kids... in fact, we have a 20 year old daughter! I think we understand the culture, the subtext and love seeing these guys grow, change and fall in love. Good luck in love, Eden! You’re a catch!

My friend whom worked in Japan for a few years told me about it 2 years ago and how it was popular in Japan. She convinced me to watch it with her and I've been an avid fan since and have been spreading the word to others! It's such a soothing, funny, and intriguing show! :)

For some odd reason, this popped up on my suggested list, but watched Aloha State several years ago...Eden shows up more confident in this podcast than on the show! Could be the English or could be the age. Glad he's showing more confidence and still doing his thing--such a sweetheart! And his ukelele skills are amazing!!

how conveniently this pops up in my recommended after i figure out this entire show is complete bogus and bullshit 🙄 after hana killed herself because of the harassment she got on social media after being forced into terrace house' stupid blackmail type script she really just full on exposed them including some others but im mad. i used to like the show because i thought it was more authentic than American reality shows but oh boy was i fooled

Like Ryan said, he's not "too nice" but he is very nice which is good. And the fact that he'd go and eat because he's already made the reservations and go see the fireworks because it's one of the biggest firework festival... that's some real goals! it's not easy to be yourself in this world and more so on TV. Rooting for Eden Kai! He'll definitely meet someone who is perfect for him.

I can't wait until Terrace House Tokyo 2019-2020 part 3 comes out on Netflix ahhh

I think she was used to being able to trick people because when you're face to face you're not just looking at them -- like, you look away sometimes and hear them and stuff. But pictures and videos tend to pick up on people's characters. Not always, but... yeah. Lol.

Eden Kai was the best member of Terrace House, hands down! Aloha State was such a depressing season compared to the others and he was definitely a bright spot! Love him so much

To be an answer to the "group of white people who watch Terrace House" question - I absolutely love Terrace House. I've been watching it since its initial air on US Netflix with Boys and Girls in the City. I've been doing everything I can to get the previous seasons, and find out more about the show and its concepts. It's such an honest view into Japanese culture and interpersonal relationships. And as someone who has been studying Japanese independently for quite some time, it's an amazing piece of content. The commentary also adds that element of interpretation that I as an American can compare my own emotional/situational understanding and assumptions to. Yusuke is also a great human being, and it had to be pretty hard...but he's so motivated and inspirational. Definitely one of my favorite cast members of Aloha State, and was great to see him in the latest season!

I think anyone who likes tv and stories would like Terrace House because it feels very real it’s like Friends but if you followed a group of friends just living their real lives and it makes you feel invested. It’s also cool to understand everyone’s different personalities and vibes. It’s funny too I’ve laughed quite a bit at what people in the show do and the commentators.

I wanted to weigh in on one of your questions. I am a 32 year old white male living in Wisconsin and my white girlfriend and I watch Terrace House. Seen every episode and love it. So yes, there are at least some white people from the midwest that do indeed watch the show.
