Same can be said about the “Imperial truth”, let’s face it that’s just a cult of personality around the Emperor and once you outlived your usefulness you’ll be discarded just like the thunder warriors. He wants to rule the galaxy and purge all the Xenos, and external influences so he can preside over it like a god. This is not a good person, his forceful correction of humanity’s direction is what created 40k as we know it. Dystopian hell. Maybe Humanity is not supposed to live on forever, struggling to keep the flame lit is admirable but everything is naturally meant to end. Chaos is born from decadence and depravity that his Imperium feeds, it’s a clean slate. Some new alien race will emerge and experience the universe.

A chaos cult trying to corrupt an imperial world and getting pissed when interfered by a Genestealer cult sounds like an awesome story.

@@minuette1752The fact is that there are no true gods in 40k. Star gods are just really powerful star parasites. Eldar gods are just old one weapons. Chaos Gods are just echos of sentient species or psychic parasites. God Emperor is just a really power human psycher on warp juice. Each of them are reactionary not the cause.

Something else that often isn't mentioned is that life for your average Imperial citizen is so overwhelmingly oppressive, difficult and depressing, that Chaos Cults (at least from the outside) look like a distraction worth pursuing.

What you just described is as nuanced as a story about a pretty princess trapped in a castle, with knight in shining armor embodying all the goodness and the enemy is warts ridden witch that's literally epitome of all evil. And those stories never delve deeper into any of 3 cliche characters, princess only exists to be saved, witch only exists to be slain. Again, yawn, boring. I get it though, it's neat envisioning oneself as the knight saving the day, with none of the burden of how that knight became a knight, or how a witch became a witch. Simple, one dimensional glory/power fantasy with clear cut white and black characters who don't invite much speculation on their inner turmoil. Hey, sometimes that should exist too, I'd even wager solid 20 to 30% of stories ought to be that. However, you'll see that you're probably vastly outnumbered by people who actually prefer the long story, with characters being shades of gray, instead of white and black. Since you know, we ourselves are neither fully good nor fully evil. I'll concede that children should still be given media with clear cut content, bringing too much of gray into child's life can make them become jaded and cynical far too early in their life. But WH40K isn't for children in the first place, and it should never strive to be that.

Joining a chaos cult could also include a sense of community. Imagine you are a person on a hive world, your life is shitter than most and no matter how you pray to the emperor it seems that he doesn’t care and isn’t listening and you are all alone in your suffering. Then you get introduced to these people who are in the same boat as you and they show you these new gods and as you pray to them more and more, they answer and give you greater boons. These gods care about you. The emperor does not, if he is even real. And you finally have friends who understand you and are with you in this religion and its ideals.

That's what happened... In a episode of Bolter and Gun, i think they corrupted someone from an imperial world because of how strict the law was to not talk, not read and much more, and every day it repeats again and again, until someone decide to break the rules because he was tempted with something different... Technically, he was tricked to do so by the influence of Tzeench, and basically became corrupted and that spread in imperial world like a plague... Some worlds are so f*cked up because how the laws works because they believe they can hold that way chaos, which i think it made them even easier to corrupt

Believe or not, they have positive aspects, like Khorne he is a god of honor and courage, not only a bloodthirsty monster, Tzeench is also a god of knowledge and evolution and not some twisted maniac entity, Slaneesh is a god of passion and not just a bitch in every bad term of it and Nurgle is also a god of rebirth and not only a fat bastard. I think is more of a matter of perspective, which the imperium has done well to screw it up

@@Voldrim359 Just watched that episode, and its the clergy that is corrupted and looks for sacrifices. Those are the small people counting books, no reading, no speaking, only counting. Then they would fuck around a bit with the numbers until one of the counters gets responsive and starts to ask questions, speak, tries to read etc. Then they put up a trap book that eats his soul, that trinket then was used by other priests to preach to the masses and slowly corrupt them. On another side, we have biker gangs, clans, rebels, mafias, all of that exists in our world, all of those people go through insane things, be it righteous or not, just to live another day, very aware that only like 2 predecessors died peacefully. And they still chose that life.

He so his comrads there children and there wives who all died singing and laughing not long after there entire plenete was was anhilited. As they all ready up and March in to a crisp light. Granted this all happened on a shrine world so pretty much the entire planet's population were running outside with kitchen knives singing hymns and lets be fair most of the impireuims population wouldn't really be that enthusiastic to fight for a god that allowes his own flock be treated as disposable cannon fotter by his Empire as you would practically need to be monstrously zealous to get the chance . But this proves well enough there's a genuine chance and a place you do go of you stay loyal and faithful but you you would need to be straight up zealous if you ever wanted to get a chance. With the Emperors heaven likely acting like Valhalla where you basically go and fight the warp for all eternity, but hay beats instantly being devoured. We got to remember the Astronimocon in the warp has to hit something one way or the other and that place is the eye of terra where it's documented entire planet's being faght over by beinfs made of light with the place consistently always of fire. So there might genuinely be a chance.

Its like a recruitment poster. "Is life in hell really THAT bad?"

_ I alway thought that the biggest danger in the Emp revealing Chaos(including all of the "upside" & downside) to humanity is that if every human(from the Age of Strive onward) know about Chaos, a huge part of the population would join Chaos as a desperate gamble to escape their darkest hour(things were already bad for most of the population, so Chaos wouldn't seem that bad at 1st glance, short term), not just the degenerates _ If the Dark Age of Technology found out about Chas, most would declare Chaos as the true enemy & seek to destroy it. Because there are not a lot the Gods can offer humanity at its peak. Sure, the people knowing would still impower the Gods but with the might of humanity at its peak + the Emperor helping, Chaos power would shrink day by day(especially if they can get the Eldar to help). & With all the safeguard in place on a galactic scale, the Age of Strife itself would be less bad with the new psykers being more trained & disciplined

Well simply knowing Chaos existing or not doesn’t deter it or harm it although direct chaos worship probably powers it a lot but we know emotions and certain actions fuels the warp. The Eldar didn’t worship Slaanesh yet they gave birth to it by simply being depraved, even with all the Imperial dogma associated with stopping Chaos and remaining “pure” the sheer mass population fuels the warp from the collective dystopian suffering and violence. Also, many civilizations worship Chaos and not know it like Lorgar did on his home planet. The deities he worshipped were the chaos gods masquerading as different things which happened across the galaxy. So Chaos is well established it’s just the Emperor withheld information about it and clearly that in itself is a big problem regarding the traitor Primarchs so no matter what this is likely the result.

They have the strong will to resist it, already have a lot of power(there is less the Gods could use to temp them vs a sl@ve) & the intelligence to create safeguards, but that is if they knew about it

@@aokhoinguyenang3992 Yeah but perhaps Lorgar shouldn’t have been punished the way that he did and in the end his worship of the Emperor is what holds the Imperium together right now. Banning Psykers again is a bit jarring considering 3 of the most powerful people in the imperium are Psykers (Big E, Magnus, and Malcador), Grey knights are the most effective weapons against Chaos atm. I just think the efforts to contain chaos are folley, it’s not going anywhere so I agree Chaos and the warp should be understood because when you fight things you don’t fully understand you’re weak to it. So in a lot of ways 40k Imperium is more resilient to Chaos than it was in 30k because regardless of Horus Heresy, Chaos would still be a problem I just think it’s an added bonus they corrupted half the primarchs.

like, i get not telling most humans about chaos, but i feel like he should have told his sons. his entire plan hinged on the primarchs doing their job and nothing going wrong, and he didn't bother to tell anyone that beings in the warp might be trying to manipulate them???. magnus might not have fallen for tzeetch's tricks and broken the webway project. fulgrim maybe wouldn't have taken the evil slaanesh sword and got corrupted. lorgar could have understood that chaos was the enemy not the gods he sought.

Its Hilarious that this is one of the YT notifications I get after Turing my phone on this morning. mephiston is brimming with the psychic power of his primarch. he is supposedly a weapon to lead the blood angels through their hardest battles. ahriman on the other hand has somewhat freedom aside from the fate of his primarch and his legion. while he is the original caster of the rubrica spell, he can act mostly without the demonic influence of the chaos power behind the thousand sons. and almost no one matches his knowledge. where mephiston wields a sword, ahriman holds a staff. battlemage vs prophet. put balthasar of the dark angels, tigurius of the ultramarines and kaldor draigo of the grey knights into the challenge.

If you gave you life to the Chaos God, Malice it would probably better than giving it to the other four. Think about cultist going around the galaxy like Gorr the God-Butcher in the marvel comics. Killing every foe with the boons of immortality, near invincibility and the power and strength of death itself. The drawback being if you fail in a mission Malice gives a part of your soul is leech as punishment but he empowers you more to make sure you do not fail again. Basically you'll end up like a Nazgul ringwraith or Darth Nilhilus, you with be this form of nothingness and have to wear clothing or armor to have a physical form but you have power and strength of a god, are immortal and can't be killed or banished that easily or at all.

If you're strong enough to beat back orks and keep drukari raiders minding their own business you are a powerful entity. Humanity will survive Imperium or not.
