What’s wild is that even with with all this preparation, most everything comes down to your mentality. My HS (Which is fortunate to share an UIL Area with Hebron) has similar rehearsal scheduling as Hebron does, however, we have never made state and y’all have. From my experience being in Marching Band, it comes down to the willingness to perform better and carry that attitude throughout the entire season. Also I would like to point out that even though we may not be the best band in our Area, I wouldn’t have it any other way. The memories I have made in Band have positively shaped the rest of my life.

I graduated from Ryan in 2022 and we were in region 2 with Hebron. My band was very good, but on the smaller side and we didn't get a lot of help and funding from the school district. I feel most of the bands that go to state and manage to do well at Area because they are on the bigger side and have a lot of support from the school district. Everyone in region 2 is great 🤘

I think it depends on an individual’s willingness to put in effort and the teaching ethics of the band director. The school that I go to went to state 4 consecutive times from 2011-2017 and then when that director left our band kinda went back to being a sorry band 😅

@@baldmista1907Definitely. Our band is good, and is getting better. But we're still being held back by many people being unwilling to push themselves. But the biggest problem with our band is the arrogance a lot of people has, so a lot of people make it a bit of a toxic environment which honestly holds us back the most We still made state, and even got 1st place for the first time ever But compared to bands like Hebron, Avon, and so on, we just aren't there with our work ethic yet. (We also have 130 people so we looked pretty small compared to everyone else while we were at BOA lol) There's just a lot of factors that we need to ever become as good as them, and we only have a few of them (I am in the TL Hanna program in SC, were definitely good, I say that again lol, but just... we need more to be truly great yknow. That was a lot so sorry for that as well)

Hey! Klein Oak band member here. I can say, I was quite surprised that we have such a similar practice schedule. I think the only thing we don’t do is have practices in the morning before school. If it’s hot outside that day, instead of still doing outside stuff that day, just in the morning, we would cut some hours off of that day, and push them to a day that wasn’t as hot. We’ve had some scorchers here in Houston, 118 feels like temperatures. It’s been rough, for all of us in Texas lol.

What I’m really wondering though. Is how much practice you guys put in outside of ensemble rehearsals and UIL regulated hours. I’ve heard talks of personal trainers and such. I mean in the end, this sport is somewhat of a money sport. The bands with the money can afford the better drill writers, props, music, and so fourth. While ones that aren’t as fortunate, don’t get those opportunities.

@@octagonl682 McG still won't tell us why he left Cain for us man... The position was open, and at the end of the stir the pot year, our program was in shambles. Our head band director was fired for things I cannot say here on the internet, and we were left with no money, and the exodus of our entire slate of directors, except Mr. B. It was really grim, but he decided to join us. From what I heard, he's the band director we call the "fixer upper" type. He goes around basically, saving, band programs. He flat up told us that we were in the negatives with the budget lol. That's why we couldn't afford any new props, new uniforms, rehersal equipment, sound equipment, instrument repairs, or front drops. We weren't supposed to keep the red uniforms from stir the pot, but we had no choice. We're in a way better state right now than we were a couple months ago, he's already got us back on track. So hopefully, we get some good shows these next couple years. At the start of season, McG did tell us that this year was going to be a test year, to see what our capabilities were, and that future shows will be building upon what we did this year. I think I can finally say that the future looks bright for the program. He's our 5th or 6th head band director in 2 years, but I think he's gonna stick around lol.

I go to College Park (N houston area) and our school starts too early for morning rehearsals, so to aclimate the heat we moved rehearsals to later in the afternoon (starting at 5), it was still hot but not AS hot and they gave us cold towels so we wouldn’t die🧊. Normally though, we have rehearsals starting at 3:30 on tuesday-thursday with two hours on wednesday. And our summer band is from 7am-5pm, it’s crazy how y’all go till 9😧💪. Your band camp schedule is pretty standard. That’s how it was for me, and I’m from a fairly small school that just went to individual competitions (not really a part of a competitive league or anything). No Zumba at the beginning of the day for us, but we did have an hour or two of conditioning You did have way more rehearsals once school started though. We just met twice a week, beyond regular class time. Individual sections did meet pretty frequently though

We do vis block and Music block at fishers too! ,We also do pass offs over music and vis/choreo, but its a bit different, typically you will submit a video of your passoff to your section leader. If you do not submit your passoff you will do it live and/or be assigned laps to run around the rehearsal feld. Learning about how other band programs is so fascinating and I would love to learn more. Incase ur curious I'll drop a typical fishers schedule Band Camp: M 8AM-9PM T Noon-9PM W Noon-9PM Th 8AM-9PM F Noon-6PM During School Our School days are 8:30AM-3PM M.T.W. 3:15PM-6PM Th 6PM-9PM F 3:15PM-5PM then dinner then 6:00PM-10PM~ football game

Morning rehearsals ain't so bad if your 1st period starts at 8:45. There was a point where Hebron did like 7:30-8:45 every morning, but then 1st period was also band so it chained right into another hour. Then they'd have like 1 after school practice on a Thursday or something to get the full 8 hours. You can get a lot done with that kind of time setup, and the after school flexibility makes it easier for kids to be in multiple activities (which reduces the number of kids quitting allowing for a larger ensemble on the field).
