Life is Strange fan theory: Is Nathan a time traveler?
So there have been many theories about people other than Max having time travelling abilities. Notable examples include Alyssa and Rachel Amber.
But today I would like to talk about another possibility, Nathan Prescott, Sean Prescott, and maybe even Mark Jefferson. Lets get started.
So Max knows things she shouldn't because of her time traveling abilities. Who else knows things they shouldn't?
Nathan Prescott.
I'd like you to listen to this audio clip cut from episode four, during the fight scene between Nathan and Warren.

"The storm is coming, you're all gonna die."
"I see you. I see all of you and you're all gonna die."
How would Nathan know about an event that canonically supposed to happen in the future? Perhaps Nathan also has time travelling abilities, but he goes into the future instead of the past.
He also says "I have a camera, I can take pictures too." which might be his way of saying "Hey. I also have powers." In addition to the dark room, This might be another reason for his erratic and disturbed behavior.
Imagine seeing your family and friends die right in front of you and when you try to warn them they just think you are crazy. And prescribe you drugs. Which brings me to my next point:
"No big daddy, I won't take your pills, fuck you"
It has been mentioned multiple times, that Nathan takes meds for some mental problems he is having. But this quote makes me think, does he want to take those pills? Does his "daddy" refer to Sean Prescott?
Now think.
What keeps Max from using her time traveling abilities? Drugs.
I think the pills prevent him from using his power, maybe his father knows this somehow. And he makes Nathan take the drugs on purpose to keep him from stopping the vortex with Max. He does fund the "vortex" club.
But why would Sean Prescott support the destruction of Arcadia Bay? Because when everything is destroyed by the vortex, everyone will have to buy houses from Pan Estate. Which is conveniently run by the prescott family
The prescotts even built bunkers that will protect the citizens from the storm
still, though How would anyone other than Max and Nathan be aware of their ability to time travel?
Maybe its because his father can also do it. And so can Mr jefferson.
reddit user "chloepricefield" points out some foreshadowing in the beginning of episode 2. Before you leave max's room, you can look at her laptop. Max has been doing some heavy research on Time travel. If you look at the website she was on, there's a caption titled "join the chrononauts"
Chrononauts is a science fiction graphic novel, about two men who can time travel. One blonde, one brunette.
Chrononauts was written by SEAN Murphy and MARK Millar. The same exact first names as Mark Jefferson and Sean Prescott. That cannot be a coincidence. It not only foreshadows their partnership, but also the fact that they may be able to time travel.
How did Mr. Jefferson get to the junkyard so fast, if he was on stage just a few minutes after Chloe and Max left the party? He doesn't even start walking away he just stands there, creepily looming the background.
Why didn't he kill Chloe first, and then drug max? I mean she has a gun, she's taller, she's probably stronger. Why wouldn't he eliminate the threat and then get max
Why does Sean Prescott force his son to take meds, when Nathan's psychologist says he doesn't pay attention to his son's mental health?
Its because they are time travelers and they know how to take advantage of other time travelers.
Now this time travelling aspect changes everything about how Mr. Jefferson and the Prescott's operate. If you choose the right dialogue options at the end of episode 2, Kate will mention her sister Lynn.
There is a binder labeled "Lynn" in the dark room.
I used to think that this was a coincidence, even in a game that pays so much meticulous attention to detail. Also: taking creepy pictures of tweens is not their MO but holy shit.
Maybe they go forwards and backwards in time and take creepy pictures of girls. And that IS Kate Marsh's sister, but years from now when SHE goes to Blackwell. The developers obviously wanted you to see it, because its one of the 3 binders they deblurred at the end of episode one.
I probably sound really crazy, but I think Nathan also has powers and the people involved in the dark room are at least aware of it.

I don't think it's time travel - more or less seeing into the future - precognition/premonition .
In episode 5 when you scream to david in the dark room jefferson turns around and says "HOW DID YOU KNOW THAT?" but i really want this to be true cause Shaun Prescott leaves a note to Nathan explaining that he would teach him in the family ways. So much confusion, it makes my noose bleed.

ueno Because he goes to the future, then comes back to present time. Unlike Max, who goes to the past, then ends up in present time with a changed reality, Nathan can't make reality change, he basically only knows the future.

With all realities existing simulatiously, he travels by shifting his consciousness. He is an interdimensional time traveler.

katski The only thing I struggle with now is: How can they rewind so far (like 8 years or so)?
I think we need a prequel or something following Nathan and his thoughts with the events leading up till Max’s return
There is one thing that still confuses me. When you were talking about how Max couldn't time travel because of drugs, I looked at Nathan's pills but they aren't bad drugs. They're good drugs. So I was thinking, maybe Nathan's dad made it look like regular drugs but they really aren't. (Spoiler) As you may know, mr. Jefferson said that Nate overdosed Rachel. I think that he didn't and It was the drugs and that's why he said he didn't want to take the pills. Maybe mr. Jefferson helped Nathan's dad to do that so Nathan could kill Rachel instead of him killing her since she was so liked everywhere and they would go serious on the investigation. Then they probably would have figured out it was him. Since Nathan's already done his job and he didn't want him to tell anyone about it, he kills Nathan. As you may know, Nathan told Max everything about mr. Jefferson and mr. Jefferson checked Nathan's phone and saw the text so he decided to get Max earlier than intended. Instead of drugging Chloe too he kills her. Maybe he brought a gun because he thought Max had a gun or maybe he brought it because he knew Chloe had a gun. He might have went there and got shot by Chloe so he rewinded time and brought a gun instead. The thing is, why would he show Max that drugging her stops her power. Then she knows that whenever he's about to drug her, she should rewind time. I think mr. Jefferson is trying to help her by showing that she should stop rewinding time for Chloe or he will stop her by drugging her and he tries to kill her so she stops rewinding time. I think he knew the ending of Max and Chloe because of his rewind powers that is not actually stated yet because he is showing that life would be better if she didn't save Chloe. (This is all thought by myself and I'm sorry if there is a video including this it's just that I probably haven't seen it.)

+suzy jung Also something to think about. Max was safe in the dark room throughout the storm so Mark Jefferson and David might still be alive... Or maybe just David if you picked for him to kill Mark Jefferson. I think that Mark Jefferson also knows Max has rewind powers because since I think he does, he might be able to feel her rewind time.

Your theory is interesting and makes alot of sense , Dontnod confirmed Life is Strange 2 will focus on a different protagonist so it might be about Nathan and we'll probably learned that time travelling is messing with his mental health , the game's story could begin in jail and a few minutes or hours after Chloe's death.

Nice catch. I didn't even think of the "End of the World" party as more than just a reaction to the supernatural events, or the fact that the Vortex Club is named after the event that Nathan could have foreseen as well. If repressing Nathan's powers passed it on to Max, then perhaps the next episode, someone else will be able to time travel, too?
I think this theory is very sensed cause it also explains why Jefferson would drag peiple in the dark room and most of all jill them. Maybe the Sean Prescott wants to get rid of all othe time travelers, being aware of their existace, and Jefferson joined to help him (and maybe being a time traveler himself, he would do that to stay alive). So the binders are only about suspects of time travelers (i said suspects because kate is not one, if she would have been she would have gone back in time and erase the video), but Nathan is not included cause he is Sean's son afterall.

I really love this theory! You did a really good job at providing detail for you explainations I feel like sean prescott has powers also but not mark. Sean probably uses his powers to hold marks secret of abducting people against him which is why mark looked intimidated when he was on the phone

I really loved lis 2 but I really think this would be a better story line for the game then lis 2. This sounds so cool and I think this is somehow true. But there are rumors about lis 3 so I hope they will do something like this and explain finally some questions about Rachel and Nathan and they won't make another new characters.
Holy shit from this! I just got thinking that maybe the Season 2 main character is Nathan Prescott? since Max might loses her power, maybe Nathan will step in to save Max, or Max and Chloe (depends on your ending)

Those theories are so interesting. Thank you so much for making this video. Clearly Dontnod had a lot in mind about the background for Nathan and his family related to the tornado. But I think that is was supposed to be some kind of curse on the Prescotts, rather than time travel abilities. Although what you say about being able to travel into the future makes perfect sense. I guess Dontnod didn't have time and budget to make all the story, which by the way would have made the game at least 7 or 8 chapters long. It's so sad, since it could be way more interesting the way it was originally meant to be. Let's pray someday they make a remake of the game with all the story they had in mind originally.

Nathan is a time traveler because he says the tornado is coming is he dead?
I don't know why. But when Max called the beret in the school when Chloe and her were trying to break into the principal's office "Twee", than later on when Nathan called Max a "Twee" ... Dike? Don't remember. But it seemed so odd. Like I started thinking Nathan could read Max's mind or something.

Captain Plottwist well at the end you can actually save him, by rewind back time, but if you didn't save him, he was buried and killed by Mr.Jefferson

Either he goes to jail for killing Chloe, or Mr Jefferson kills him (and buys a bus ticket in Nathan's name to cover his tracks)
wow, Nathan knowing the future storm was always very telling to me. Nathan could be a time warper, time traveler, going into the future seeing Rachel dying. Trying to tell her, but she doesn't believe it.

Mark and Sean having the same first names as the authors of the Chrononauts doesn't mean anything. This game is filled with random references. For example, all license plates are references to TV shows such as Twin Peaks, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, or the Office. Does that mean the shows have anything to do with the game? No. Also, the jackets from Blackwell look like Jacket's jacket from Hotline Miami, which again is just a little Easter egg and nothing more.

I don't think Nathan would have powers I think he has visions of future events. watch that show called "minority report" it's about this guy who can watch scenes of what's going to happen in the future. just little blurry scenes. but Jefferson and Sean they can go back and forth and maybe their karma in ep 5 will be them getting stuck in time like their arrested in the future then go back and forth to the same places and actually get stuck in jail and rot.
no disrespect but I dont really buy into this theory. They drug everyone in the dark room. And if Jeff have powers, why cant he rewind and save himself too?
