I skipped because of the questions.
Toilets were often found near the guard houses in a lot of those larger bronze age, norman era castles. The walls of the castle are not painted white for no reason either, white refelcted more light through the windows which in turn brightened up the chambers.
I really enjoyed the video, very nice and in great shape medieval castle. Thank you

The reason Irish castles are such impressive fortresses is that they were the seats of power of the invading British, and had to withstand constant attack from the Irish people. Cool video 👍.

I'm 1 of the 10%, left handed & received an A+ in archery, however, I wouldn't want to battle in those winding cases. The deadly architecture of castles is intimidating, but breathtakingly beautiful nevertheless. There's so much history & my guess was Brave Heart🏹🛡. 1 of my dreams is to live in a reconstructed castle, or newly built made to look medieval⚔💘
@schatzsucher

If you notice on the right side of the door, before heading up the stairs, there is a hole in the wall. This was called a murder hole, from which arrows could be fired through. I've imagined living in a castle also, however it does seem as they would be rather cold, not only in temp. but also in feel....not very warm and cozy!
Notice the tooling marks on the arch ways are very precise and mechanical seeming.
Gotta love a good castle.

Starwell. Protection.
I hate that you make this video like an "exam" then you reveal the "answer key" at the end. One question that needs to be answered at the end is enough for me😑
Please don’t make questions sound so depressing.
Rant Gate protect from the enemy!.
Great video. It seems odd to me that salt of all things would have been in short supply in Ireland of all place. I mean, aren’t they an island surrounded by salt water? It would seem they’d have an unlimited supply of sea salt. I would have guessed literally any other spice than salt. It seems that that’s what would have been the most abundant and readily available. I wonder how they preserved their meat...
@schatzsucher
4 жыл бұрын
Excellent point. When researching the facts for this video I was focusing on Medieval times in general. Also, I think the use of salt as food preservative consumed much of the supply. Thanks for watching :)
@KayInMaine
4 жыл бұрын
Do you understand how much water boiling they would have had to do to get the salt they needed? Salt was imported and the royals/wealthy were the only ones who could afford it. Salt was for cooking but it was also a meat preservative.

Hmm? Does anyone know where the toilet is? Ohh! That must be the answer to Does anyone what they poured over their enemy? 😂 Did YOU know castle steps were also unevenly spaced and sized. Some were really narrow, others too wide. Some places close together, others spaced far apart. Those who lived in the castle knew the pattern and could hop, skip and jump them...allowing them to flee quickly. The enemy chasing them would misstep, trip and fall....or be forced to take them slowly at the very least.

Thank you! The middle ages are such a fascinating time in history.
The stairs are clockwise because most people are right handed and the stairs would be easier to defend from the upper siden then it was for a attacker coming from beneath
Finally a video that tours the inside of the towers and great hall--most videos just span the outside and never go into detail on the interior. The cannon sound scared the bejesus out of me though. Did not like that.
My answers for the questions. 1. The small door was used so people could escape when an enemy was attacking 2. Hot water with sand 3. I don't know many movies 4. Staircases went clockwise so if an enemy was running up them they would run up them slower 5. Not sure but I will guess Italian 6. Toilets were in the walls and the waist traveled in to the moats 7. A cannon would get stuck in the wall 8. Either salt or pepper 9. 15 I guess it depends on how well trained the archer was
Ireland has about 30000 castles incase you didn't know, well now you know and the country with most castles is france
blippi comes to mind
