I sobbed while watching this. Growing up in Sri Lanka which is pretty similar to the Vietnam I miss being a kid back home. All the lakes and rice paddies we would play in as a kid and my distant cousins. We didn’t have a care in the world and life was so much simpler back then but I wanted to grow up too bad :( Thank you for capturing everything Benji. I lived my childhood memories once again thanks to this video .

As someone who was raised in the middle of the northwest in a small town (USA), I feel like I am just now realizing how culturally deprived I was growing up. Most of the schools I went to were predominantly white, with the exception of a few exchange or transfer students. I was offered very few opportunities when I was younger to truly experience other cultures. Now that I am in college, I feel like watching your videos has encouraged me to expand my world view and learn about different cultures. Every culture is so unique and special and should be celebrated. Your videos clearly reflect how amazing other cultures truly are.

As a Vietnamese American, I'm enjoying your videos in Vietnam. They capture the calm moods I experience when visiting my family over there, especially in the countryside. Something those flashy Saigon nightlife travel videos would never capture. Those early morning moods, waking up and hanging out with cousins and talking to my grandma... brings back memories.

Benji, as a 70 year old who finished high school and started college during the “Vietnam conflict” (we weren’t allowed to call it a war) my political perspective is very different than what you’re presenting now: a very unified country with a balance of city life and rural life. Thank goodness you and your dad are bi-lingual so you can interface with your relatives and talk on camera! These videos have been very educational. I also see how bad your mosquito bites on your face have turned out: with the blistering! Wow!! I guess you just wait for the swelling to go away and DON’T itch them…..

Watching from Florida. I so love this particular post. I am from the Philippines and everything you all did is exactly what we do when we go visit, including the ceremonial food for the dead relatives. In regional vernacular,Ilocano,we call it atang(ah tongue). The Philippines is also a Catholic country,so prayers and altars are also a huge part of everyday ritual. Need I mention the food! Of course, all day long! Lastly, family, family, family. What a small world!

Wow! I'm watching this video from Brazil and I couldn't help getting emotional over how similar Vietnam is to Brazil. I constantly visit my grandparent's farm too, cutting sugar canes and making juice from it later, going around the land and picking up fruit and vegetables for dishes, the dog happily running around and the heat... wow, just wow! Beautifully made video with a beautiful family and culture; thank you for sharing this experience with us.

Because of you and this video I contacted my cousin again, I am from India and every summer I used to go to my grandparents' house and all of my cousins would be there too, we used to play in the afternoon sun and just eat random snacks my grandparents used to make us sometimes, my grandfather was obsessed with and still is with "Gola", it's just crushed ice shaped into a ball and then you pour syrups over it, we used to eat that everyday in the summer. I miss those days because we can't meet very often these days and it's been almost 4 years since we all were together at my grandparents, lost touch with my cousins whom I cherish the most. This video just made my heart warm again and all my childhood memories came in rushing. I am 23 and life's been hectic with work and studies and this just made me feel like I can feel something again.

This vlog is so cute! I love how honest you were in the video. I felt a tinge of sadness when you left and said goodbye to your family; it’s truly heartbreaking. I know the feeling because that's what I feel every time I go to Puerto Rico and see my family. The little time I had with my grandmother and when I visited my great-grandmother who lives in the highest mountains of the island was so special. I had so little time with her, but it was incredibly meaningful because she lives such a peaceful life. In reality, it’s not easy to live a life like that, but they are very persistent. They wake up very early to work in the agriculture field, tending to the animals and all of that. I truly love this video, and I hope to go to Vietnam one day.
