I took my test 3 years ago. I studied 12,000 years of history, everything dating back to the stone age - to modern music and art - all for 24 multiple choice questions that took me 9 minutes to finish. I got 23 out of 24 correct. The one I missed was a modern artist. I honestly don't know about any modern artist other than music. This may sound silly - but all of that studying boiled down to 24 multiple choice questions felt anticlimactic. As if I had been cheated because I studied harder for this test than my state nursing exams! I told you it sounded silly. :D PS: I had the book as well - but my favorite way to study? Taking loads of practice tests. Those stuck in my head for ages.

The instant I saw you writing in pencil, it was obvious you come from the US. Kids educated in Europe (inc UK) will only use pens or ballpoints after 2nd grade, except for maths. When my daughter joined grade 4 in the US after previously been at school in Kenya, she couldn't believe she wasn't allowed to use her fountain pen for lessons. I am not British, and only lived in England whilst attending prep (58-63), but found these questions absurdly easy.

Multiple choice exams and tests were virtually unknown in my day, and are still quite unusual for my son even today. What is true across all four of us, is that tests and exams, other than maths, had to be completed in ink, to avoid any possibility of accusations of tampering. This was and is true of Common Entrance, of IB, and at Finals.

@@t.a.k.palfrey3882 sounds like your family have attended mainly private education and international style schools rather then regular British schools. Prep for example means private school (something only the rich go to), not sure what common entrance is at all (I’ve quite honestly never heard of it), IB is mainly offered at private/international schools and an absolutely tiny number of normal schools, we don’t have ‘finals’. Even ‘senior’ school tends to be mostly a private term other then a few pockets in the north of the country. Tests I had to do in pencil were anything marked by machines on multiple choice papers. In primary school this was things like the 11+. In secondary school only the official exams had to be in pen, most of the time in class exams people used pencil so they could rub things out- we had to use pencil in maths exams for anything that required graphs or drawing in case we did it wrong. In medical school it’s pretty much all multiple choice exams marked by robot so you have to use pencil.

After looking at the video I took some of the online practice tests and yeah I passed them as well as that test you did, but that's because I've always had a thing for history. But honestly I don't see what 90% of this has to do with living in 21st century UK. But looking at the cost of study material it just looks like a scam by HMG to screw you out of £40 or so. I think William of Orange would disagree with that 1066 question btw. This is one of those Concorde, Spitfires and White cliffs of Dover things. Where people celebrate a Passenger plane that no longer flies. An aeroplane that hasn't been front line RAF equipment for 70 years and a bunch of cliffs that are over 300 miles away and mean naff all to most of us. Referencing your other videos, it might be more useful for some of the questions to be. Who bags your shopping at the checkout? What's an MOT? What's the difference between a 1st and 2nd class stamp? Ask a postie about the latter and they'll tell you the nothing but the cost as that delivery time is yeah "whatever" "edit" just got worse when hearing it's £50 a pop to just take the test.

There's a lot of information (dates and names) that even 'native' UK kids don't get told and don't know. Right or wrong, it's a filter: it's a clumsy way of saying "Are you an adult, and how much do you know about the UK?" Bless! The UK government is expecting a foreign person to know and be educated more about being British than a native. So ... no high standards then! :D :D Welcome to us!

Hi - thanks for this and other videos. I have a funny story out my wife's application for indefinite leave. She is an Australian citizen and unlike me was not also eligible for a UK passport as she was 6th generation Aussie. She passed the citizenship test and then like you we decided to do the fast track that then involved going to the Govt Offices in Croydon and doing it on the day. I scrutinised the forms - got the 20 pieces of official bills, statements etc in our joint names and though it did not say on the forms dug out our marriage certificate. However in her first year when driving in the UK on her Aussie license she had picked up between Henley and Reading a speeding ticket from a speed camera. Though she had then got her UK license she was offered the choice of 3 penalty points and a fine or the option of doing a speed awareness course with no penalty. When it came to filling the indefinite leave forms they wanted to know all convictions, including traffic offenses. An Aussie cricketer had failed to get indefinite leave because of drink driving. I rang Thames Valley Police who could not tell me the status of her traffic offenses, if any. We declared it as it is safer to be honest. Anyway we rock up, they want to see the marriage certificate (though not listed) and then at the final interview the official says - you have shown us the 20 pieces of information in your joint names can I see one in your wife's name. I said but the forms do not say that to which he said, "they are ambiguous". (Are they heck!). So we said the only thing we have here today in her name (worrying we do our fee) is a speeding ticket . To which he said, "we have all got those - they give them out at Asda so that will do". So we have dined out on the story she got indefinite leave to the UK on the basis of a speeding ticket! The sequel is we spent 5 years in the UK and then returned to Australia. Though pre-CV19 I used to visit twice a year to see my mother the last time was in February 2020. My wife was not interested in the 21 hour flight for a week so she has only been back once and hence lost her indefinite leave. Like you, there are things I miss in both countries - we have Target but no Waitrose or M and S. I am a great supporter of the NHS but I think the Aussie Medicare hybrid system is even better. Our GP appointments are mainly free and last at least 20 minutes - 40 for a long appointment. Having had Boris Johnson as a local MP in Henly I am not in the least surprised how badly the UK has faired with Covid. Besides international travel where I live in Sydney, NSW we are basically back to normal. Anyway enough of sensitive points - and thank you for the videos.

@@GirlGoneLondonofficial Thanks for replying. Having spent my life half in the UK and half in Australia - if I had to pick one it would be Australia. The only real downside is that we are a long way from anywhere - Singapore and Bali are considered near and they are 6-8 hours flight from Sydney. We are wealthier - average salaries in most jobs are higher than UK and US ; have a good public health and social security systems; and our politics with compulsory voting and proportional representation are not at the extremes of right or left. It might have changed but we are far less in my view snobbish and "up ourselves" than some in the UK. If you met the Prime Minister in the Street (as I once did) you would greet them with G'Day John, Julia or Scott. Our culture is historically Anglo but all our economic and political relationships are now with East and South Asia. Asia now provides the most migrants, tourists and international students. We have been comparatively successful with COVID because we followed East Asia rather than UK and Europe or US - and boy are we glad. New Zealand (who have the best Prime Minister in the world) is small, slightly more Anglo, very, very pretty in a Scottish sort of way. The only issue is if you visit a tourist attraction you might be the only people there/ Lots of sheep of course. Enjoy your videos.
