Life Esidimeni: Bloom hopes for harsh judgment

The Pretoria High Court is expected to deliver its findings in the Life Esidimeni inquest tomorrow. A total of 144 mental health patients died after being moved to ill-equipped and unlicensed NGOs and community care facilities. This was part of cost-cutting measures by the Gauteng Health Department. The Health Ombudsman has ordered the provincial government to pay affected families R1.2 million each in damages. DA Gauteng legislature member Jack Bloom hopes the inquest hands down a murder and attempted murder judgment to those responsible.
