Matthew to Revelation are scriptures too. Yes, in the first century they only Had Genesis to Malachi but look at what Peter says in 2 Peter 3:16 identifying Paul's writings as scriptures.

noble peter where did Apostle Paul glean his epistles from? All of Paul’s writings were based on The Scriptures. He wrote on the revelation of the scriptures concerning Christ. I hope this helps.
