When kirk franklin did the song with her all my friends got really quiet and I was like yeah I told you she has a great voice so great kirk had to work with her.

having seen two of them, one really up close, there is nothing that is like a divorce in a church. the one I was the most close to was a pastor and his wife(he didn't want it) I loved both of them, and they never asked me to take sides, but everyone else did. when I wouldn't i got really ROCKED. I watched people I thought I know, my brothers and sister, do and say things that just shocked the shoes off of me. Broke my heart. I wonder if people know what kind of damage they do in times like these.

I was fiercely committed to my marriage unfortunately he was not. I spent years forgiving infidelity and abuse and only one person knew about any of that. Toward the end of the marriage our children found out about his infidelity and a few other people found out from them. But most people even some of my best friends knew nothing about what was going on.

It's really not that at all. Read my other comments. It's the whole pursue yourself and discover yourself thing AND the emergent church/deconstruction (question everything) thing. I just went through peri-menopause at 47 a few years back. I made a lot of mistakes (mostly buying too many clothes!)....but I had an encounter with Jesus and as I pursued Him I became more creative, more of myself.....without doing it the worldly way of "finding yourself". God is just so funny that way. We look for Him (in biblical ways) and we find ourselves too without having to become self-absorbed.

@@RCGagain She said she was very young when she got married, she said she gave her husband so much control that she didn't know who she was. There is nothing worldly about her finding herself. She is an individual and was married, that's two individuals. However when one person makes all of the decisions, tells the other what to do and how to do it, that's not a Godly marriage, that is a controlling marriage. When someone is in that kind of relationship, especially when they enter in it at such a young age, and have been in it for so long, they don't know who they are as an individual. They only know who the other person is. How is that Godly?

@@amystreasuresdesign this is why I don’t believe in young marriage. The church marries babies off so they won’t sin sexually. Buy these marriages usually crash and burn later. I married at 18 and my ex was the same age. 26 years later he wanted out and left me and our family and God. He said he spent his whole life doing what everyone one else wanted. Now that is a child mindset and he is now in a worse place but that’s between him and God.

My husband was a cheating Narcissist and I’m glad to find out all his secrets and infidelity with the help of cyberhackinggenius. It is encouraging to hear this conversation, and just how encouraging they are during it. And yes, therapy helps in so many areas of life. I'm so glad to see not judgment but love and care and a good, honest, healthy conversation about divorce. i think time, and people, have changed, and the reality is that this happens in more lives than the church is probably willing to look at, when it really desperately needs to love people, regardless of whether they are married or divorced. It's painfully sad that there's this stigma that divorced people can't/shouldn't be in the Christian music world. The way Christian radio dropped Amy Grant in 1999, the way they judged and outcast Nikki Leonti around the same time for getting pregnant out of wedlock. This is a conversation we need to have. We need to be willing to talk about how important it is that we love people who go through things that leave them broken or hurting or learning who they are outside of their marriage. I'm so, so grateful for Mark and Andrew for not shying away from reality, and the need to love on Crystal. I'll add to that and say that we, as the church, need to love on all people, divorced or otherwise.

Thank you Mark for saying He died for PEOPLE not marriage and thank you Crystal for sharing. I am so glad to know that you are doing jazz. Abuse/accepting abuse is also one of those things that becomes generational. It's easy to judge others when we imagine ourselves to be better Christians than they are and assume we would do better. Peter felt he would never deny Christ yet did so three times. The Bible says God permitted divorce (with conditions) but we are saying, no God, you were wrong and people should NEVER get divorced. Let God be true and every man a liar.

In the parable of the Sower, we do find the ones who receive the word with "great joy", but then fall away due to being shallow. I know this is reality of our faith, but I am nevertheless always shocked and saddened when I witness it or hear about it. I guess it’s a part of me that feels somewhat validated by others along the journey. But I always circle back to my real validation, which is the Holy Spirit. Do you know what became of your friend?

But what really is concening to me in this interview and discussion is: There was really no mention of Scripture; of what the Bible says about marriage and divorce. It's as if the choice to divorce is up to us to choose instead of having a spiritual guiding principle to hold on.

I get what everyone is saying that this video seems "weird". I don't think they are discounting how important marriage is to God in any way. And I don't really believe the focus is on the act of divorce in itself, but more so of the "now what" after divorce. And the most pronounced feeling I got was the same as when Mark said, "and now you need the church to love on you". You have to realize you don't ever see the whole picture in divorce and we are too quick to be judgemental to those going through it. Yes divorce is not God's ultimate design but it happens and we need to offer grace to those walking that road just as Christ does.

we should offer up grace and love but we shouldnt dismiss it like the sin doesn't matter and we can just shove it under the rug. Jesus was equally loving but equally angry at sin. He let a prositute wash his feet but flipped the tables of temples in anger. God does not pat you on the head and say "there there" when we sin . Part of loving each other is also holding each other accountable and the modern church of snowflakes has lost sight of that.
