Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a neurosurgical procedure in which a medical device called a neurostimulator is placed to send electrical impulses to targets in the brain for the treatment of movement disorders. There are no formal recovery or rehabilitation recommendations after surgery.
Patient will be able to wash head with a damp cloth, avoiding the surgical area.
Don’t engage in any activities such as housework and sexual activity for 2 weeks after surgery.
You should not lift more than 5 lbs. for at least 2 weeks.
Don't drive for 6 weeks.
Depending on the type of work you do, you may return to work within 5 to 6 weeks.
You can start light activities such as cooking.
Avoid heavy activities including jogging, swimming, or any physical education classes for 4 to 6 weeks after surgery.
You should not raise your arms above your shoulders or over bend or stretch your neck.
Some devices, such as theft detectors and screening devices at airports, department stores, and public libraries, can cause your neurotransmitter to switch on or off.
