Life after decluttering: benefits from decluttering all of my possessions

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Since I don't have much to share in the way of decluttering at the moment, I decided to share the major benefits I've discovered since working my way through all of my possessions. Or at least very nearly all of them, save a few items that we already know are on their way out. If you're just starting to practice minimalism and you need some encouragement to keep going, I hope you find that here.
What are some of the benefits you've experienced from downsizing your stuff? Please share in the comments!

Getting rid of my fantasy self stuffand getting rid of that guilt and sense of obligation that I spent all this money so I have to still be interested in whatever that is has really freed me to explore my current passions. But getting rid of that guilt is especially big for me. And it has motivated me to make non material choices differently. Especially in the choices of who I associate with or decide to be friends with. it has improved my allergic reaction to things in the sense that I am really allergic to artificial and real Christmas trees. and now that I've gotten rid of all of my Christmas tree decorations and my artificial Christmas tree I am less sick around the holidays. Even having Christmas tree decorations made me feel obligated to have a Christmas tree. I enjoy the holiday season without a Christmas tree so much more because I'm not sick. I've had a couple people tell me that you have to have a Christmas tree to celebrate Christmas. But honestly I decorate with other things and I don't need a tree full of mold if it's artificial or full of whatever that pine evergreen thing is that I'm allergic to. I have adopted a clothing uniform. And that makes getting dressed really easy but it also stops impulsive purchases. And I regularly get compliments on what I wear to work. I have not finished de-cluttering I don't think I ever will. I think it's just like the tides it comes and it goes. there are times when I bring more things into my life and then find some of them don't work or don't fit my life anymore and so they leave.

I actually was thinking of you today, I was missing your videos. I would like to say thank you. You see the first time I came on utube your video was the first one I had seen about minimalism, I was hooked after that. I was never one to have too much, but began decluttering anything I didn’t need, or want, I could say that I decluttered 60% of it. The more I decluttered the less I felt I needed, my home just as yours is easy to care for, my husband told me our bills are non existent, and I really owe it all to you, it is so freeing never wanting to go shopping, no more home decor purchases, and shopping is only intentionally these days I was excited to see your video pop up, and thank you from the bottom of my heart.... everything you mentioned I can relate to as well, I am very aware now of recycling, fast fashion, giving to charity etc....I am glad you are well, and look forward to your next video❤️

In the past 6 months we’ve managed to pay down $15,000 in debt and have reduced our possessions by at least a third. It has been liberating, and also very enlightening. I’ve been challenging and changing many other aspects of my life that I had just let fall into destructive habits. I’ve been contemplating starting a channel to document a more thorough analysis/ declutter of our remaining possessions.

I know what you mean about the having spent money on things that ended up being decluttered. It makes me sick to my stomach to think about all the money I've spent over the years on things that I ended up having no use for. BUT - we can't keep feeling down about that stuff. We just have to learn to make better choices and stop shopping mindlessly.

I think I am going to try a 30 day challenge in March. We recently had our first baby and have accumulated so much stuff. I have been good about decluttering her clothing as she grows but I think just hitting my whole house throughout the month will feel good! Already have a few things in mind.

This was an interesting video, thank you for sharing. Since my major declutter 6 months ago I am enjoying many similar benefits. It also gave me space to tackle my finances and so far this year I have been budgeting, saving and paying off debt. I did no spend January and low spend February. I think I may continue to alternate throughout the year. Thank you for fostering cats! I had a wonderful 17yo cat who was a 'long term foster' (an older cat who has medical problems and lives with the fosterer until they pass away) from October 2018 until he passed away in December last year. It broke my heart as he was such an awesome cat but I have started looking for another long term foster to provide a loving home for. I also donate to the local cat shelter regularly and two of my three cats are adopted from there.

It was so nice to see you in the feed! I was a minimalist, living in a tiny space that takes about 3-4 hours to fully pack and move... now I live with my partner who has sooo much stuff. I've kept a lot of excess stuff myself this year to feel like it's my place too but I miss having a clean and minimal space. Was your partner on board from day 1? If not, how did you approach decluttering and the conversation of becoming more minimalist? My partner seems to think this may be my excuse to get rid of his novelty sword collection... it's not but they do collect a lot of dust lol

I know you did a good thing and your intentions are admirable, but putting people into a condo is like giving them a pile of money and lighting it on fire on the way to the bank. HOAs are the bane of existence. They can raise costs and levy assessments unless constantly monitored (and even then…) Getting into a condo is the worst parts of owning a home, combined with the worst parts of being in an apartment. I hope they are comfortable and happy and live a life free of fees and litigation. I love every ounce of this video in every other regard. Sub ❤️💪🏻
