I'm living here 17 years, its not all cupcakes and roses. It has vastly improved, but it's not the country comforts you likely enjoy now, but it is safe, there's relatively no opportunity to leagally make money to survive, visa's are not easy unless you work for a company or make a company. You'll always hear the "good stuff" but rarely hear the challenges of lving in Thailand, Philippines, Lao's or cambodia. Just do you Due diligence when making a life changing move. good luck

I can only agree with you again and again, I just spoke about these exact points with my Thai friend. I've been living in Bangkok for 6 years, alternately in Malaysia when I'm fed up with the city. It's a dream life and I'm so grateful every day that I get to experience it here. I live much healthier than at home in Germany, have lost 35 kilos, do sports, swimming and massage every day. What a dream ❤ And dont forget the beautiful girls everywhere... 😄

That is great news that Thailand inspires your healthy lifestyle, including the 35 kilo weight drop. I often tell my out of shape friends in the U.S. to come to Thailand to get their swag back, and their health. And yes, all the beauty of Thailand can be a motivator, including Thai women 👍

@@alans.philippines I have visited Thailand many times a year since 2019 and yes I agree with your statement!! However the language barrier in Thailand for a majority of their people is bothersome to me! Now in the Philippines I feel at home with the Catholic religion and women with a warmer heart looking to make a connection w/ me and not feeling inclined to “renting a girlfriend” there as I feel we have to do when in Thailand
Greetings from Jomtien Philip. Great video. I retired here, at age 64, 2 1/2 months ago. It was a whirlwind at first....overcoming jetlag (from US), getting my retirement visa. Bank account. A pool villa rented for a year, wifi, gym membership, setting up my new household (I brought nothing but a backpack and 2 suitcases. I sold everything else in the US). The factor that most resonated with me was the lack of consumerism. I left Palm Beach County, Florida. One of the most materialistic places I've ever been. Ostentatious display of wealth. People who should know better (older people) caught up in ostentatious display of their wealth and their obsession with keeping up appearances. Well, I shed my RV, my boat, my touring motorcycle, my truck.......100% of my personal possessions were sold or given away. I told myself "well, you won't have much because you won't need much". The reality is that I am living a lifestyle no less than in Florida in my rented villa.....for a fraction of the price. Like you, I ride a motorbike. My truck's fuel bill used to be $300/month. Now my gas bill for the scooter is about $12 monthly. All those expenses involved with 2 vehicles (registration, maintenance, insurance)....gone. At 64, I have private healthcare insurance with Pacific Cross. Top shelf at the best hospitals. I pay annually what I would have paid in one single month for private healthcare insurance in the US. I live with my Cambodian girlfriend. She grew up on a farm and is tight with every Baht. I think we spent no more than $40 in the last 2 days. She cooks at home, from scratch, frequently. So yes. I am completely onboard and can attest to what you have posted as being absolutely spot-on!

Nick, your Thailand life sounds great, with fewer things to worry about compared to being in the U.S. Like you say 'keeping up with appearances" and possessions seems to be common in the U.S. I do not miss that part. There is a certain freedom and joy that comes with a scooter, versus car dependency in the U.S. Thank you for your comment, it is a reminder of what makes life in Thailand more attractive than living in the U.S.

I just turned 50 and now that my son is off to college I've was thinking of getting a boat and mooring in the Caribbean but the cost of living and frankly the biggest hurricane season theyre predicting, the massive wealth gap and poverty vs the ultra wealthy in their ungodly yatchs, the tourist traps and taxed everything, the never ending mosquitoes and all the requirements to even set foot somewhere....well why would I choose that over Thailand with those gorgeous waters and mountains! The answer is clear and Phucket always comes up as top 10 affordable and healthy places to live in the world. This vid brings me hope Im not crazy! Thanks!
My first visit to Thailand was a few weeks ago, I went to Bangkok, Krabi, and Phuket.. Bangkok was very busy and lively and being from nyc felt fine, used to fast life although more pollution in da air. Had lots of fun tho and easy to travel. Krabi was my fav place happened to be here for songkran and had a great time with lots of locals they are very good ppl and welcoming. Phuket was fun as well a lot of beaches and laid back vibes. All these places had plenty of nightlife and positive vibes all around. Besides nightlife also experience da nature aspect of it, monkeys, elephants, temples, big Buddha, floating markets. It was magical to me, also Food was always good whether I ate out or on da street, 7/11 blew my mind too lol all in all I wud definitely come back I fell in love an at peace. Ty Thailand 🫶🏼

I still have NFL season and season tickets to home games in Miami, but my wife and I travel off season. Mike, I miss football season in the U.S. Especially the camaraderie with friends and going to games. If pre-2020 this experience alone would keep me in the U.S. more so. But with the increase in tension and friction, Thai peacefulness becomes more desirable than returning to the U.S. for the things I miss, if they come with the added stress. Your Asia trip sounds great.
I am Thai, had lived in California for years. I had a good life there, but still living in Thailand is much better. I am not paying $5.99 a pack for chicken , I am paying $3 for 2 lbs. of organic boneless chicken breast. I like walking on streets and see healthy looking people, see smile, it improves my life. The cost of living here is less than in the us. I know it is increasing but still better.

You are dead on about living in pretty much anywhere in Asia. I lived my whole life in US then moved to Beijing China for 6 years and you are so right about feeling lonely back in the US but never when in Asia. So many things to do and the neighborhoods are so packed tightly together which sounds bad but it's actually a good vibe, so much energy at all times, talking with strangers, you never feel lonely. I notice you speak a lot of English as well in Thailand. They all understand? I learned Chinese and that made my time in Beijing even better! You need to learn the language and go native!
@PhilipJames360
28 күн бұрын
You say it well about the Asia experience, with all the markets and mixed-use neighborhoods, bodegas, local restaurants, and every other convenience, it makes me feel more 'connected' even as an outsider. The U.S. is to care orientated, which makes it feel more isolating and lonely. And yes! Based on my experience in Japan, Vietnam, China, and Taiwan, Thais not only speak the best English, but they are the most familiar with how to interact with foreigners.
Great job!!!
EXCELLENT VIDEO. The UK. Is extremely expensive, and we also have loads of poverty and drug issues. Hopefully I will get there. All the best brother. You did the right thing.
Great vlog Sir 🙏
I am Thai, but I know the cost of private hospitalization in Thailand is not cheap, but still a lot cheaper than in US, Canada, or Europe. I think it would make sense for westerners that want to live in Thailand to have good insurance to cover their health here in Thailand because it can still hit your pocket pretty good if you get into something major. Other than that, I think life in Thailand is very easy going and very affordable, even if the optics of it is not so with all the high-end shops popping up. You just have to be more persistent and open up to dining in local shops and markets to get great prices. Cheers!!!

Very good presentation and composite of local life in Phuket, as tourists, many do not know or experience that side of the coin. You probably add another 5 or 6 reasons compared to the USA. Political ineptitude, everyone's sensitivities, agendas left and right, drink the Kool-aid mentality, infrastructure issues, political correctness run amok, taxes up the ying-yang, etc. You should do a companion series on the cons living in Phuket. That way we have a broader and clearer picture overall. Looking forward towards your next video

Very positive outlook in general. I agree with nearly everything Philip says about Thailand. I visited Pattaya for a couple of months recently. I just wish I'd discovered the land of smiles sooner, before I got so old! I'm 68. The pharmacies could be better with a larger inventory of over-the-counter healthcare supplies, but other than that it's almost perfect. I find it's easier to take care of yourself when you can get more of what you need at the pharmacy. Not just medicine, but things like elastic ace bandages, sports and first aid items, sports nutrition, and so forth. That way you don't have to rely on healthcare providers so much. I wouldn't call myself an athlete, but exercise is important. I'm a semi-retired writer-editor with a degree in writing. A freelance editor for advertising firms and fiction writers for example. I may or may not do their writing for them. I might go back to Thailand in 2024, possibly Phuket. Or the Philippines, which I really like. I've been to Cebu. If you go by statistics, and I do, the cost of living in the Philippines is less than Thailand, depending on the city. The rent in Phuket is about the same as where I live now in Texas, probably because Phuket is so popular. Groceries are 32 percent less though, and restaurants 55 percent less. Rent in Boracay, Phil. is about 25 percent less than Phuket. Rent in Manila is about 10 percent cheaper than rent in Bangkok. That's not much difference really. I was average in college math. You don't have to be a genius to use the numbers already out there on the internet. It's free. I also used math quite a bit on the job as an EMT (requires a short trade school) for a couple of years between high school and college. I didn't get any complaints, but I changed careers. One reason I changed careers is because I found out I wouldn't have enough money for any grad school in healthcare such as med school. With living expenses it's very expensive. My violent lawyer parents, and one was a judge, all but abandoned me when I was 17 because they didn't like me. It was as simple as that. RB

"writer-editor with a degree in writing" reminds me of the new book by Adam Moss, “The Work of Art: How Something Comes From Nothing.” He states editors are highly valued, more so in the age of A.I.
The best video. I learned a lot. RESPECT BROTHER

Thank you! Hope you make it to Thailand sooner than later!
It was wise from you to portray Phuket as Phuket Town and some deserted beaches and ocean views. The whole thing would look very different if you had shown Patong and other places overcrowded with other foreigners. Yes, living in Phuket town can be a nice experience. As for me I prefer other islands in Thailand such as Koh Phangan or Koh Lanta. I'm in Chiang Mai now, in the Nimman neighborhood, it's great but the pollution at this time of the year is just too much. Good thing that my Airbnb here is only until the end of the month. Thank you for the great video, keep on with showing the real Thailand! 👍

Paulo, thank you. Many people identify Phuket as Patong, as you mention. I have one been to Patong three times, and spend 90% of my time between Phuket Town and Rawai and Nai Harn beach. My original plan was to move to Chiang Mai, but the poor AQI nudged me to the the south.
Thank you sir ❤
Great video and I totally agree with what you mentioned in your video. I live in Okinawa, Japan and the lifestyle is very similar here. I'm retired and can't go back to the US for a lot of the same reasons. I will be visiting Bangkok and Pattaya for my first trip to Thailand. I'm really looking forward to it. Keep up the great work and I look forward to viewing more content from your channel. Thank you.

Wow, I love Okinawa! Was just there last month, and if I lived in Japan it would be there over mainland Japan. Okinawa feels more relaxed, less rigid, and more warm-hearted compared to Japan's cities. If not Phuket and Thailand, Okinawa would be atop my list for expat life. Enjoy Bangkok, and maybe consider Phuket as well during your visit.
Love your content❤

So good my friend
Hello, thank you for saying good things about Thailand. I am a Thai person from the countryside, farming and farming. Sometimes I secretly think that I would like to have a foreign boyfriend who loves a quiet, lonely, simple life. But it's a funny dream of mine haha.

I was about to say the area is missing the veneer that people pay for here in Waikiki, ... then you sat down in the coffee shop. Wow! I love the aesthetic. What a beautiful tour. Thank you for sharing this. Your genuine appreciation and glowing heart are really inspiring. Aloha ✌🙏🤙

I paid $2000 USD just recently for travel vaccines in the USA (Hep A+B, Typhoid)…. And I have health insurance. Just so I can visit Thailand. I’m sure getting those over there even out of pocket is less.
Great video!!!!! The real ins and outs of Phuket, and not the nonsense!!!

Try it! the most expensive thing is the flights and Visa. Once you arrive, your dollar goes a long way. You instantly give your self more treats as you feel how much more purchasing power you have. People are friendly. Take a vacation. 10 days.
First time viewer, great video, full of useful information. Thank you for the time and effort you put into the video.

First time watching your video and loved it alot. Thanks! It looks like much better life there then in the western countries with stress , pollution and bad athmosphire. I'm thinking to do the same as you and move to Phuket sometime . I need to save more mony in order to stay long time there. Hopfully i'll meet you there one day.
Thailand definitely has a companion for every taste.
Phuket has a relatively high cost of living. You can avoid the high cost of living by moving to a nearby province such as Krabi or Phang Nga.

Yes it’s right what you said. The life is better in Thailand. We will go next year to Jomtien and we think we will have a good time, for the rest of our life. Best wishes from Germany Siri and Uwe

That's great news! The expats I know in Jomtien say they love it.
I'm from the Netherlands. Life is getting really expensive overhere and we have a housing crisis. I'm giving serious thought towards leaving. Thailand seems a great place to be and the people seem really nice. Everything is so much cheaper than overhere. Only downside for me would be the temperature in Thailand I guess🥵
Thanks!
