Thank you for the nice video. The best way to empty the ship would be to rotate it. They definitely need a much bigger crane.

The video is great. But there are much better ways to move this product. So much of this product is being wasted and too much time is lost in unloading especially where time is money. It comes down for tons per second in some cases.
A clamshell bucket is the most(energy) effeicient way to unload a bulk vessel. This is a 30m³ bucket wich is to big for a hydraulic crane. But is a relatively small rope operated grab. For sugar this grab should have been designed with a special knife sealing system to prevent leakage.

we have one small one like that - it has a gap on the bottom I can put my hand through, but no spills :D It presses cargo between knifes i guess...

That leakage is disgusting and I cannot imagine that on the long run it is acceptable.

Aren't there better and faster ways of unloading dry materials like this, like through the use of something like vacuum suction through some pipes?

Vacuum method is a good idea but dangerous. Because sugar is made up of small pieces. Water jet effect occurs. Cut

Учитывая стоимость крана ( порядка 5 миллионов евро ) они вообще не должны ломаться . У нас же постоянно из 7 кранов 2-3 в ремонте . Вот оно немецкое качество !

What would help, is if the ships entire cargo holds them selfs were intermodual , my meaning that one hold could be extracted, trafered to the other vessel like an intermodual cartrage!! Or if the cargo Holds were designed from the start to consist of removable inter-changable moduals carriages that can transferred between vessels..

Sounds like the obvious solution, but cargo ships are designed with the cargo hold part of the ship's structure, so any separate container would have to be strengthened, as well as the ship significantly, so lots more weight. It's only economical if the time savings in unloading are bigger than the cost of the decrease in capacity because of the added weight. Also the receiving port would need substantial upgrades to handle the throughput, so that technology would likely get adopted first in a situation where the same ship goes to the same port, so it makes sense to equip the ship and the receiving port for such high throughput.
I know that kind of a job I work like that too

The labour should have rigged tarps between the hatch coating and hopper to catch the spillage from the poor seals on the grabs. There was sugar spilling and spraying everywhere. I hope the sellers of that cargo were paid on loaded weight and not on outturn weight.....the labour probably souvenired the spilt cargo and sold it privately.

Puede que sea falla de la almeja que se fuga demasiada azucar o bien puede ser el operador yo soy operador de esas gruas de esos barcos cargueros y cuando se fugaba de masiada azucar al levantar la almeja la solucion era virar o levantar tantito cable un metro ,cuando se sacaba llena la almeja parar, dejar de virar cable se paraba ,se arreava cable y se sentaba la almeja al sentar la almeja en el cerro de azucar se compactaba la azucar de la almeja y ahi virabas y sacabas la almeja y se acababa la fuga de la azucar ya biene compactada y no se tira, eso es si es el wuichero u operador es el del problema si no es el hay que solucionar y repara el problema de la almeja

The rise in obesity is a problem. And it is being blamed on a rise in the consumption of sugar. However, while global sugar consumption is rising in aggregate, in the developed total world sugar consumption has been surprisingly stable :)

All that waste, sufficient to sweeten an Olympic swimming pool. Someone in the design department should be ashamed of themselves for the embarrassment to Liebherr and the port authorities.
Got to be a better way! Seems like a huge waste of money and time....

To me this looks like a very poor performance. The bucket is leaking pretty badly and the whole operation is very slow. Definitely not I am used to see from Liebherr!
