LiDAR - Introduction to Light Detection and Ranging

This video presents LiDAR, or light detection and ranging, an active remote sensing system that uses laser energy, to measure the heights of objects like trees and buildings and even the ground. This video was developed by the National Ecological Observatory Network (www.neonscience.org).
Special thanks to Chris Hopkinson for the data used in the final animation in the video!

Is there a way to see the laser beams with my eyes? like through some kind of glasses or camera?

This would depend on the type of laser used for the lidar system. If the laser used had a wavelength within the visible spectrum than you could technically see it anytime it bounced off an object (dust in the air, the ground, a building, etc). However, many lasers used are outside the visible spectrum so you couldn't see it with your eyes. I don't know of any glasses that would allow you to do this but yes, some cameras can capture wavelengths outside the visible spectrum and then convert the data to wavelength within the visible spectrum.

It can also be used for estimating speed of wind.

Why is Alaska connected to Russia in 4:02

The globe used in that animation shows the world as it would look with lower sea levels -- hence Alaska and Russia being connected. However, the sea level and position of the continents is not directly related to the video content about LiDAR.
