The quintessential book that provides a real understanding of the History of Rome is David Syme’s “The Roman Revolution”. Some concentrates on the rise of Augustus and how he revolutionised the system whilst still keeping many of it pts trappings in place. The narrative commences with the rise of Caesar after the civil wars of Marius and Sulla and gives a lot of information about the various factions in Roman politics and the personalities of the political players in the period.

In 9/10 cases I read the entire book. I love nonfiction. I skim Journal articles though.

Such a great variety of books! You must've spent lots of time to go through all these pages. I wonder if you've ever read The last of the Mohicans by James Cooper, I've taken a look at the feedbacks on Goodreads and most people say the book isn't that good, the other ones it's brilliant. So what would you advise? Thanks beforehand!

Does your book stores have Roman and Ottoman sections? In Sweden the only section are Fiction, Children’s books, Cooking and Other. Lol

Yes, we have roman, ottoman, han dynasty, and etc. Very big history sections. Sweden bookstores sound depressing! Thank goodness for international shipping!
