Joel, thank you so much for taking the time to do this review. It's always nice to see a top notch reviewer that has not fallen prey to the Cult of the Unpublished. I was on the fence with this game but, considering the theme and your outlook on the two player experience and your overall praise for the game, I think I will give this one a go as my first COIN game. Kudos to Drive Thru Review for the steady stream of first class reviews!

Thanks for such an in depth review. I just started to get into this series, and started with this one... I'm looking at Pendragon and Cuba libre... Do you have a favorite? Any idea which is best for 2 players?

@@piotrpan7862 if you haven't played any COIN style games, the rules and system can be overwhelming to new players. Set up is also a chore... But it's strange... I ended up enjoying the set up because the art and the tokens are so nice. Everything pulls you in. I personally liked Liberty or Death(LoD) a lot better than Cuba Libre, even though Cuba Libre is probably easier to play. To me, LoD it's a must own if the theme captures you at all. The game play is solid and the card play and tactics in the game allows for a life time of replayability. Not to mention you can play 4 different factions, and each has an AI if you can't find a full compliment of players. It plays best with 1,2, and 4 I'd say. There is also a 2 player only variance you can try to hunt down that condense the game down. It's not a perfect game.. but it's a damn fine one. It will never leave my collection. Even if I only end up playing in once every year or two. It just has a certain quality about it.

Joel thanks for this review. I found it via another one of your videos. I have never played any of the Coin games but the theme for this just blows me away. Would you say this game is a good one for someone that is not familiar with the Coin games?

This makes we want to boot up Empire: Total War. If only because I dont have the cash to buy this game now and I would have to play Solo.

Not sure if this was made before Pendragon, but I think that is the most complex and richest of the COIN games.

So this is a tricky thing = the theme appeals to me, the mechanics seem cool = but I still don't know what a "coin game" is. What's the first in this series of games? I think if I watch some videos on that I'll be able to make more sense of this.

I did yes. Very very good. Maybe the best solo mode of the COIN series I think. This one or Cuba Libre.

Drive Thru Review That's good to know! I really love the theme of this one and I've just started to crack the rule(s) book 📚 Your overview helps me understand the basic concepts because reading the rules dry is a bit much for my first COIN game.

Ya it's typically best to read... and then struggle through a couple of turns. The solo AI helps learn the game as well. "Oh... it's best to do X when Y is going on..." etc...

Great Job. Just purchased it. Hoping soon to have the first eight COIN games. Love these games. COIN Forever!

Best to learn the system and game mechanics by playing Cuba Libre before you move on to this beast.

It's a 2-player game that was forced into 4-player standard COIN format. Indians and French should be NPCs supporting PC British and Patriots (and eliminate Indian/French victory conditions). Allowing the British and Patriot players some flexibility in choosing the NPC action from the Indian and French flowcharts would reduce counterproductive bot play.
