Liberty City: Miami- The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Part 2 of 4)

Ойын-сауық

Miami is best known for its luxury lifestyle, Latin-infused culture, and as a popular tourist destination. This four-part documentary series focuses on Miami's most notorious ghetto 'Liberty City,' documenting the struggles, the failures and the successes of Liberty City locals. Watch this raw, uncut four-part series that captures for you aspects of Liberty City life: how things go down in the hood, violent shootings, police corruption and the drug epidemic.
Director's Note:
My aim in producing this Documentary series is to give the people of Liberty City a voice.
Though currently known for its Bad and Ugly aspects, there is also much Good in Liberty City; and the words "Hope" and "Never Give Up" remain strong in each individual in the City.
2nd Episode:
We talk to people about their experiences and problems they face on the daily in Liberty City. We also visit a historical place in Liberty City - The Scotts Project.
Please share on all Social Networks.
Episode uploaded every week. Watch, Subscribe and Enjoy!

Young man in the red hat... very well spoken and informed. I love to see young black men who are aware of their surroundings and are able to make sense of the chaos. Knowledge is power.

***** Point of the fact is, 20% of what he said was correct. Just because there in some important facts here and there doesn't mean shit. What he has said and how he "thinks" he needs to approach it are 2 diff things. If he knew SO much, why is he still in the hood with his bro's? He reminds me of a black Charles Mansion. Spits out interesting lines but cant do shit to actually make a difference in his life or others. P.S. Dont be a grammar Nazi douche!

***** There was a reason why you defended him verbally, but, deep down, its subliminal. If it didnt matter to you, you would not have responded, so, it matters for a reason. I could only image the reason, which in this case is negated by his position. Cut and dry for YOU, but, for the open minded, quite clear. Cary on......

Education is the key to getting out but most don't want to put the work in and other circumstances compound that pursuit. One more problem is that everybody wants immediate gratification instead of working towards a goal to move up and out of these conditions.

Nah man. It’s way deeper than that. It’s a mentality. When you’re told over and over again you can’t do something and you can only do something else, and the only life you’ll ever live is what you see around you, what’s the likelihood you’re gonna become anything else than what they expect? That’s not an excuse that’s reality. What’s gratifying about getting shot at? That ain’t fun. It’s what’s known. What we need is more people telling and showing a better way.

My aspiration is to one day be able to afford 500 dollar shoes, even if I starve. I get shot once in a while, but it's all good because I deal shit that pays less than minimum wage. I sometimes go to jail but it's o.k. because I always get out, I's sure time stops while I'm in jail, right... I talk like I have money but really I'm broke as fuck...everything I have is in my right pocket right now... and I can not even feed my kids, whom I'm a perfect example for, I mean I buy them Jordans... Jordans make people happy, right? Besides they mamma get food stamps. The other day I shot at my cousin because that dude wasnt born in my hood... man I liked that dude, but fuck why did he have to grow up in that other block...I started rapping when I was little because everyone I know raps, If wack rapers can make it, I can make it...right. I woke up the other day and I realized I just turned 38 years old...fuck I'm old. I celebrated by smoking weed, with my homies...what's left of them. A few years back I tried to get a real job but they all told me I had no work history so they did not get me.. and others told me they would give me a chance but that I had to pull my pants up and look presentable, and cut my hair...shit I aint cutting my hair. Shit my life has sucked ... now if you don't mind I got to buy me a forty and drink so I can forget about my shitty life...

Compared to the way in which they live, the 'hood where I grew up is akin to an upper middle class suburb. I lived in projects in Cincinnati Ohio during the '80s and '90s when the crack epidemic was full steam ahead, but over all we didn't have a barrage of murders, robberies or break-ins. I've witnessed and been apart of plenty of fights tho but my overall experience wasn't traumatic. I actually have more goods memories than bad and I have my mom to thank for that, she made sure my siblings and I had access to activities outside the hood. Every summer was spent alternating between museums, aquariums, zoo, libraries etc. We were exposed to other cultures and experiences beyond the realm of our comfort. Along with other family members they made a concerted effort to expose and impress upon us the realities of life beyond our 5 mile world.

I like your videos because it shows two different worlds, it reminds me of a video I saw on the strip where two guys were fighting and all the people just moved away from them and many of them turned and acted like they didn't even see it. Videos help young kids see that this ghetto life is everything they don't want to be especially when no one else will tell them. Next time do more video on the happy life with so there will be more contrast.

I've been to Florida several times but most recently I was there for about 2wks and it was absolutely beautiful..But I was curious about the history of Florida I had no idea how racially diverse the city of Miami is and the huge financial divide is! Its incredible how much prosperity there is among the cuban,Latina, Columbian as opposed to the black community! Its like all the other ethnic groups are doing financially well but areas of the black community is suffering! Other ethnic groups just seem to build and grow there own communities!

I grew up in S. Florida ---Lauderdale--there is no "real" industry per se in South Florida. The economy is service based. So during recessionary times the effects are far more pronounced. But you develop a certain consciousness and tuffness when yo from the bottom. But if you got "grill piece" and some personality yo can sell alot of Real estate, insrance, and financial scams.

All that you say is 110% true brother. But you can expect to rec'v a LOT of hostility for making such a comment. Unfortunately many of the people who NEED to hear such a simple message simply do NOT want to hear it ...because it puts the onus of responsibility right back squarely on their shoulders and they would much rather blame someone else. The part about "missing real belief" is also 110% accurate. It is the mindset that hinders far more than any external factors. I say this as a black man.

Iam glad for your comment, maybe if I would say it openly I might get a punch in the nose, but it wouldnt be the first one ;) I like u said it as a black man, but to me u said it as a person. There is no black, white, yellow man there is only a person or opposite... we all share common problems and mistakes, this is where we need to relate more and find a compassion. The worst what can happen to us is to let someone alone and not taken care of. People have to care, because there is nobody else..

Particularly gentleman who said everything got worse in 60s when drugs became so often. Another gentleman at 10:00 said exactly what makes this place bad to live: drugs and uneducated young folks carrying guns. This couldnt be better said as these problems r against job opportunities and businesses to start. These folks r truth not those gold teethed punks in the end of the clip.

Belief is everything. And not just as a philosophy but as a tool to get rewarded. Many families and parents r rewarding. Everybody wants to be rewarded and kids has to get that. If these guys parents were doing the right thing and put more attention to them maybe they would not end up here. But sometimes even the best parent cannot help. In the end its all about u and in what belief u stand for but parents give u that platform to start so u can choose. Thats all these folks need to get!

Exactly! Because this problem of so called ghettos is perpetuated and not being really solved there r families doing to kinds what they parents did to them. Those so called gangsters have families and most of them r doing the same mistake their fathers did. No role model no backbone ideology in the family. One father showed in one of these clips is the real hero, saying that his daughter needs to go to school and bring As marks.U can see he wants best for her and he cares. This is what is missing.

Yo..I came on board watching this and I was really skeptical at first but as it went on I started to feel it. I feel you with the few options folk have with low/no employment prospects, rent and bills still due and a family to provide for and knowing that you gotta hit the streets to make your money..just a shame so too much of it is wrapped up in gunplay and violence..that's a real shame. Otherwise good work..giving us another perspective on Miami. Im liking those gold fronts more and more..lol

My apologies I was half asleep or that's the best excuse I can think of at the moment. To be honest, even though I made the "consensus" comment, I reverted back to the notion that more were in prison. However, that aside this stat isn't praise worthy, at best, it's a dubious honor & if trends predict the future the notion will be made reality. Not to mention, that was '05 stats. I wonder how '12 stats fared in comparison. I imagine, being a slight misanthrope, that the prison #'s increased.

To further dispel the rumor ...it's actually a comparison of apples to oranges. A fair comparison would be to only compare black males of typical college age (18-24) in college to black males of the same age range in prison. If you do that it is more like 4 to 1. There are FOUR times as many black males in college as in prison. WHY compare a group of males aged 18-24 (college students) to a group of males aged 16 - 80 (prison inmates) ...unless you have an agenda)

Great job to the founders who produced this documentary. It shows that black people are good and know our faults and rights. If we team together we can be so great. We are so talented and eclectic. It just sucks that most of our talented people are in the hood, in jail, or in a box(coffin). They are all proving to some figure that they are that n*. These people need to first stop the trapping to get help. There are a lot of good ppl in this documentary. This is kinda inspiring to me.

My brother at the end was a bit off the mark. In order for those little girls to have positive men to gravitate towards in maturity there should be little boys raised by real men also. Father is equally important to both genders positive growth. I hear where he's coming from but many young knuckle heads "grabbin them toolz" as he said lack a positive Man in their lives. ..my 2cents worth.

the only thing I disagree with him bout is the " uncle Tom " comment I read the book and uncle was a commendable man , I 'll sum it up like this , uncle had the option of running off from certain misfortune and cause his family and friends to bear the blow or man up and take 1 for the team which cost him his life for us from the hood or anyone ? if someone told you to come out of your house and they would shoot only you or would you run out the back door and leave your family to get shot up ? ME : God forgive ask my sins rip ; but the young brother spit some truth
