My dad passed away in 1989 and my Mom pretty much gave up on life, She was never one to ask for much but one day when I was over there and she mentioned how much she liked Liberace. Did a bit of research and found he was playing at Radio City Music hall in a few weeks. I called around and one of the tickets agencies I called has two tickets, 2nd row, just off center. I know this was something she never had so I bought them. We walked in that night and it was already kind of full, showed my tickets and I said Come on Mom. And we just keep walking and walking and walking. I was never a Liberace fan but I was sold that night what a show that guy put on. The look on her face, I will never forget that night.

Liberace was the consummate showman, but he was also a masterful pianist, which a lot of people don't want to give him credit for. It's not that he was incapable of playing the music as transcribed, he was playing Liberace's piano. If nothing else, he did more to popularize classical and romantic era music with the masses than looney tunes. Even now when I hear Chopin's Heroic Polonaise I think of Liberace.

I think we’re lucky of living in a time where everybody can see everything on the internet (that’s how I first saw Liberace because I was born in Gen Z). Despite that, I feel like I “miss” the 70s and 80s and I’m sad that those times are over... I play the piano and I got immediately inspired after I first saw Liberace. I think that his style, his music and his extravaganza was a trademark for those times and I’m of the opinion that it’s a shame that he is not as much remembered as he should be. Liberace was half polish and his favourite composer was Chopin. I’m polish and I think that every polish person who has a soul understands what Chopin really means to him... a lot. Speaking of Chopin, in Liberace’s Chopin Medley, there’s a part I can’t identify with a beautiful melody right after the Heroic Polonaise. Is it an actual Chopin piece or is it Liberace’s composition? Anyways, Liberace is missed but Las Vegas misses him the most...

Chopin was a true genius. Liberace was NOT. He was a talented pianist but a showman. If you studied piano and classical music for many years, have a trained ear, and attended dozens and dozens of concerts of truly great pianists for 60+ years, you would know the DIFFERENCE between the flamboyant, cringeworthy keyboard banging of a sequined, Las Vegas showman, and the true artistry and genius of piano masters such as Cliburn, Horowitz, Rubenstein, Gould. I've been making music for nearly 65 years. Anyone can say what they like, this is simply stunning. Music is supposed to be for love, and this is.
No one can deny he was the greatest piano showman to date.
Liberace was a great pianist but an even better human being.
That opening piece has to be one of my favorite classical pieces by any composer Chopin being one of my favorite. He picked a good one to start with for sure

A Fabulous Entertainer and a really nice Person
I'm 71 and when I was 5, Liberace had a morning show on television. I would pretend that I was a ballerina and would dance all over our living room while Liberace played the piano. My mother was inspired and she took me any my sister to dance school twice a week for six years. It was good for us, we learned grace and movement. We did not become dancers but it was still a confidence building activity. Loved his piano and harp!
So enjoyed his fantastic piano playing
There will only be one Liberace. What a talent. What a showman. ❤
I heard that Chopin once told one of his students he gave him permission to play his music any way he wanted to. I think he would have loved this. I'm part Polish if I don't get a few tears each day, I feel I'm not alive. This brought me my few tears today. Lovely.

Incredible!! I just hope he knew he was fantastic & had a great life. World is so cruel, at times☹️😓
He brought pieces of the classics to "the masses" which he is to be commended for. I never heard him play as a concert pianist, which I know he did in his younger years, so I don't know what his style was when doing them in full. Give the man credit for trying to bring such music to those who either would not, or could not, attend concerts by concert pianists.

For those that don't think Liberace was a great pianist....if you really know your music; listen to the parts (rare), where he is playing the original composer's music as it was written, without the Liberace flair. Great interpretation and execution!

So I fell in love with his style of music and have been a major fan ever since. I learned quite a few classical songs listening to him every week. I wanted to play the piano but my fingers are to short. So here I am humming along with Chopins’ music at my age. You’re never to old to appreciate music, the universal language.
