LGCT Paris 2014 - Gregory Wathelet and Conrad lose their bridle mid-round!

One of the most extraordinary clear rounds of the Prix du Qatar came from Gregory Wathelet (BEL), whose mount Conrad de Hus managed to dislodge his bridle part way round. As the pair jumped the third to last fence, the bridle fell off mid-air, momentarily obscuring the horses view and leaving Gregory to hold up the bit in his horses mouth for the final difficult line to maintain control, which he did, to the delight of the crowd who cheered his incredible show of horsemanship.

Potential to have been dangerous - glad it wasn't! Remarkable the horse was so unfazed but then again the rider didn't panic. Good trust between the 2. Kudos on the clear round :)

Beeindruckend, dass sie den Parkour fehlerlos zuende gesprungen sind. Aber wenn das Zaumzeug nicht kaputt war, wovon ich jetzt mal ausgehe, warum können solche Reiter, die schon so viele Siege haben, ihr Pferd nicht richtig aufzäumen? :o :D Aber ich glaube, nicht viele hätten es in solch einer Situation geschafft, weiterzumachen! Respekt! :)
Ok, I don't know much about horse riding (yet), so can anyone explain please why the rider can't do it? Put the bridle back on? Why there's always 2nd person taking the horse away or calming it down if there's accident or something like that?

that's the groom! someone who takes care of the horse behind the scenes and knows the horse very well. it would be very hard for gregory to hold his horse and try to put a halter on!

the horse was like common Greg! we can still do this look at me with these two last jumps! .....okay peasants take the bridle off
The horse has such small ears and the throat lash has to be tight to keep the bridle on. It apparently happens a lot in training the the horse wasn't phased haha :)
