As others have stated already, try reinstalling the filter. It fixed the problem for me. There are TWO clicks. The first click feels like it is installed, but you will feel another notch if you give it an additional twist. After purging a few gallons (30 seconds on, 60 seconds off, repeat), the problem is solved. My water tastes great now. LG, add this to your troubleshooting page.

This just worked for me, too. We had it installed by Lowes, and the people who installed the filter put it in. We've always just assumed our water tasted bad out of the pipes for some reason and only used it for ice. Nope, took it out, reinstalled properly and now i could hear a new "gushing noise" from where the filter is that wasn't there before, and problem solved.

You forgot that some LG's have a filter that you HAVE to turn a little more to the right to the 2nd notch. A lot of complaints of smelly water because of the filter not being fully seated. And sometimes the female of the filter in the fridge will move so that it will be hard to attach the filter. Google and see a lot of those problems.

I had the same problem, bad tasting water and ice, along with an awful smell. I did everything LG suggested. I was able to get it resolved, it turned out the Water filter was not correctly installed. @LG Global, please add checking the water filter to ensure it is fully installed to your troubleshooting. The water filter has two tabs that need to lock into position. When you install the filter, it has to pass through two clicks to fully seat. LG really needs to add better filter install instructions. My water is amazing now!

Thanks for further explaining the 2 clicks on the filter. I was way over 3 gallons of flushing and my water was still tasting/smelling bad. I messed with the filter like you mentioned and shortly after a few cups I was good! 🙏🏼

RIGHT ON! TWO Clicks. Also, hope you don't turn the female socket in the fridge, then you will have to get pliers,etc to turn to the original spot. But, really, the compressor is the biggest problem. Hope you make it to 5 years before they go out. My 2 friends barely made it to 4 or 5 years

Pretty sure the filter is intended to impart the delicious taste of resin to the water. Burping it up is my favorite. Is there an aftermarket filter that can be used in an LG refrigerator that will not kill me and my family?

I’ll never get a fridge with water again. Brita is faster, less expensive and less of a headache. My every drop that I paid 60 dollars for tastes like rubber.

I have come to realize that it is the water filter that gives the water a bad taste and leave residue at the bottom of the glass. I was using a filter that had come to it's end and the water tastes much better and natural. How do we get the company to test out these filters and make them with out the nasty test. The bad taste also shows up in the ice. Please find a solution to this problem. I have seen may posts stating the same.

The fact that lg doesn't offer to pay to fix the water filter mounting for the refrigerator has turned me off of lg. Right up until that filter mount jammed I was a huge fan of lg.

Moms new LG fridge only a month old. water has a plastic or grease taste. Its a new filter that came with fridge. I purged at least 3 gallons and over some time i thought was better but mom still gets a bad morning cup of water every day, i think its the design/quality of the system. Her ice maker has never worked yet thats a differnt issue. And several other huge dedign flaws. Its a shame moms last fridge in her lifetime is such a disappointment.

Thats mr. Captain obvious! Can you tell us why taste is horrible after changing filters and draining water? I went to store, bought second filter thinking previous was defective and it still has a bad taste and on water tester shows worse numbers than from my faucet!? Why? "Properly seated filter with 2 clicks" still did not solved the problem! Had samsung prior to lg and had 0 issues!

The water from our Lg refrigerator taste like Iodine! Our ice taste horrible! I am beyond angry that I bought this refrigerator! Our water from the tap taste better! Our Ice is not usable as it has a horrible off taste! We are still using bottled water! Our lines to the refrigerator are new and has been installed for a year! No more lg products in our house!!!!

That is Federally mandated law by US Government to "save the environment". Similar to how you cannot permanently disable the autoshutoff on SUVs for the same reason.
