Ye, they built it that way so when you started the car, there wouldn't be any unessisary vibrations. Plus, it being there helps it last longer than if it were under the car. All-in all, toyota engineering is top notch,

Did love the car when it was new but I cant see it being worth it by the value of the car.

These cars are actually steadily climbing in value as the years progress, although nowhere near as desirable as your typical JDM fan boy cars like skylines, supras etc, they still are a great piece of Japanese engineering with an amazing history and backstory of the development, this was the first ever Lexus car, the flagship. It put BMW and Merc back in its place, you could buy an affordable luxury vehicle with all the bells and whistles paired with a V8 and RWD for a lot less. I have owned a 97 LS400 for over a year now and I can honestly say it's one of the best vehicles I have ever driven, it's smooth, built bulletproof and turns heads, mind you I'm in Australia so the number of units sold here was nowhere near the US market (these were designed for the US market) All in all, the 1uzfe is a great piece of kit, not the most powerful V8 by any stretch but probably one of the strongest if not the strongest. These motors also can be appealing for swaps into other cars like RA22 Celica (drop a 1u in and you essentially have a Japanese Mustang) not to mention other applications include using in speedboats, approved for aircraft use and even featured in the Toyota Hiace Ambulance in Japan (v8 ambulance) While the price for these to tune them can get costly, there's something different about a Japanese V8 that Americans, Europe or even Australians can't get like a Jap V8. I plan to rebuild mine down the track, both mechanical and cosmetic, cause while it may not be the most desirable car, if you have the cleanest one, people will pay big coin for it, theirs a market for any car.

@@william9937 You can keep the dissertation, ive been buying and selling cars for 25 years. Been driving LSs since my early 20s. NONE are worth a rotisserie rebuild. Benz and BMWs dont even get that. This car is now worth 10k at best. This is 30-40k+ of work easy. Maybe because they dont have mistangs or vette like vehicles, this is their custom tuner but no where in the World is this worth it.

There are probably less than 50 examples of these in China, and working examples are probably so little that you can count them with your fingers. These were never sold on China as they had to be imported from the NA market in the 90's. Importing a car like this in the 90's there meant you had mad clout. In the case of the country, it makes perfect sense that the owner would want to rebuild the engine.
